Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and prognostic impact of high bleeding risk (HBR), as determined by the Academic Research Consortium HBR criteria, in real-world patients undergoing left main (LM) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Background: LM PCI is often reserved for patients at increased risk for periprocedural adverse events. Patients at HBR represent a relevant percentage of this cohort, but their outcomes after LM PCI are still poorly investigated.

Background: Contrast-associated acute kidney injury can occur after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Prediction of the contrast-associated acute kidney injury risk is important for a tailored prevention and mitigation strategy. We sought to develop a simple risk score to estimate contrast-associated acute kidney injury risk based on a large contemporary PCI cohort.

Although high sensitive imaging modalities such as MRI and PSMA PET/CT are becoming available for prostate cancer (PCa), the clinical benefit of an earlier detection of subclinical disease remains yet undetermined. Given these uncertainties, univocal recommendations are often lacking. The present survey was therefore developed by the Italian Association of Radiotherapy and Clinical Oncology (AIRO) to collect the opinion of expert radiation oncologists and delineate a representation of current clinical practice in our country.

Aims: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease and have a worse prognosis after percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI). The BioFreedom polymer-free biolimus-A9-eluting stent (PF-BES) has shown promising results in patients at high bleeding risk; however, its performance in CKD patients has yet to be analyzed.
Methods: The all-comers RUDI-FREE registry documented patients undergoing PCI with PF-BES in routine clinical practice.

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a complex procedure with a relatively high rate of adverse events. Data on training of operators and fulfillment of quality indicators in Italy are scarce. The goal of this study was to assess the overall quality of ERCP in Italy compared to international standards.

Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are a class of anti-diabetic agents that block the reabsorption of glucose in the proximal convoluted tubule of the nephron, thereby contributing to glycosuria and lowering blood glucose levels. SGLT2 inhibitors have been associated with improved cardiovascular outcomes in patients with diabetes, including a reduced risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalizations for heart failure. Recently, DAPA-HF and EMPEROR REDUCED trials showed the beneficial cardiovascular effect of SGLT2 inhibitors in patients with heart failure with consistently reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) regardless of the presence of diabetes.

Background: En bloc resection (ERBT) is a valid alternative to piecemeal resection for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), guaranteeing pathological outcomes. However, very few studies investigated long-term oncological outcomes of ERBT.
Objective: To report long-term oncological outcome of ERBT.

Background: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the toxicity and outcome of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients treated using 3-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) or volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) technique.
Materials And Methods: 68 patients treated between 2006 and 2018 were retrospectively analysed. Since 2009 patients received 3DCRT with 50/70 Gy to the elective/boost volumes in 35 fractions; from then, VMAT with simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) with 54.

Purpose: Limited evidence is available on the utility of dose-escalated radiation therapy (DE-RT) with or without temozolomide (TMZ) versus standard-of-care radiation therapy (SoC-RT) for patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme. We performed a systematic review/meta-analysis to compare overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) between DE-RT and SoC-RT.
Methods And Materials: We used a Population, Intervention, Control, Outcomes, Study Design/Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses/Meta-analysis of Observational Studies in Epidemiology selection criterion to identify studies.

Weaning of patients from Impella is complex and includes evaluation of the underlying disease, which is essential for estimating the potential for heart recovery. Monitoring during the weaning phase with echocardiography and pulmonary artery catheters will be discussed, as well as the use of intravenous and oral heart failure drugs. Patients who are candidates for weaning must be stable, without inotropes, and must have recovered from acute end-organ damage.

Cardiogenic shock (CS) is a clinical entity that includes a wide spectrum of different scenarios. Mechanical circulatory support (MCS) plays a fundamental role in the contemporary treatment of CS, and is a key element in determining optimal treatment in this complex population. Cardiac support with mechanical devices should allow reduction and complete weaning from inotropes.

Introduction: Randomized clinical trials showed that bortezomib, in addition to conventional chemotherapy, improves survival and disease progression in multiple myeloma (MM) patients not eligible for stem cell transplantation. The aim of this retrospective population-based cohort study is the evaluation of both clinical and economic profile of bortezomib-based conventional chemotherapy in daily clinical practice.
Methods: Healthcare utilization databases of six Italian regions were used to identify adult patients with non-transplant MM, who started a first-line therapy with bortezomib-based or conventional chemotherapy.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to investigate the role of the exoscope as an assisting tool in endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (e-DCR).
Materials And Methods: In this observational retrospective study, the application of the VITOM® exoscope was studied in a group of 21 patients undergoing mono- or bilateral DCR. The primary endpoint was to evaluate resolution of symptoms (epiphora/dacryocystitis) at the 6-month follow-up and time for surgery.

Background: As in many fields of medical care, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) resulted in an increased uncertainty regarding the safety of allergen immunotherapy (AIT). Therefore, the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) aimed to analyze the situation in different countries and to systematically collect all information available regarding tolerability and possible amendments in daily practice of sublingual AIT (SLIT), subcutaneous AIT (SCIT) for inhalant allergies and venom AIT.
Methods: Under the framework of the EAACI, a panel of experts in the field of AIT coordinated by the Immunotherapy Interest Group set-up a web-based retrospective survey (SurveyMonkey ) including 27 standardized questions on practical and safety aspects on AIT in worldwide clinical routine.

Despite aggressive management consisting of maximal safe surgical resection followed by external beam radiation therapy (60 Gy/30 fractions) with concomitant and adjuvant temozolomide, approximately 90% of WHO grade IV gliomas (glioblastomas, GBM) will recur locally within 2 years. For patients with recurrent GBM, no standard of care exists. Thanks to the continuous improvement in radiation science and technology, reirradiation has emerged as feasible approach for patients with brain tumors.
