Background: Recent studies have shown the presence of SARS-CoV-2-specific antibodies in the milk of breastfeeding mothers vaccinated with mRNA and convalescent. However, limited information is available in lactating women receiving other vaccine platforms used in developing countries, such as the inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine BBIBP-CorV (Sinopharm) and the non-replicating adenovirus vaccines Sputnik V (Gamaleya Institute) and ChAdOx1-S (Oxford AstraZeneca).

Methods: Here, we evaluated anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG and IgA levels in both serum and milk samples using a longitudinal and a cross-sectional cohort of 208 breastfeeding vaccinated women from Argentina with or without previous SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Article Synopsis
  • Research indicates that gluten-free products (GFPs) generally have lower nutritional quality than non-gluten-free products (non-GFPs), but there are exceptions depending on the type of food.* -
  • The study analyzed nutritional profiles and prices sourced from Spanish supermarkets, revealing that while GFPs can be more expensive (up to 391.5% higher), their price does not consistently correlate with improved nutritional quality.* -
  • The Nutri-Score system could help consumers identify healthier options and encourage manufacturers to enhance the nutritional quality of GFPs, which should still be consumed sparingly in a balanced diet.*

Research Group on Nutritional Epidemiology & Cardiovascular Physiopathology (NUTRECOR), Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa), University Hospital Son Espases (HUSE), Palma de Mallorca, Spain; Consorcio CIBER, M.P. Fisiopatología de la Obesidad y Nutrición (CIBERObn), Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII), Madrid, Spain.

Background & Aims: Ultra-processed food and drink products (UPF) consumption has been associated with obesity and its-related comorbidities. Excess of visceral fat, which appears with increasing age, has been considered as the culprit contributing to adiposity-associated adverse health outcomes. However, none of previous studies elucidated the link between UPF and directly quantified adiposity and its distribution.

Background: While urban built environments might promote active ageing, an infrequently studied question is how the neighbourhood walkability modulates physical activity changes during a physical activity intervention programme in older adults. We assessed the influence of objectively assessed neighbourhood walkability on the change in physical activity during the intervention programme used in the ongoing PREvención con DIeta MEDiterránea (PREDIMED)-Plus trial.

Method: The present study involved 228 PREDIMED-Plus senior participants aged between 55 and 75, recruited in Palma de Mallorca (Spain).

Spermatozoa wage battle to conquer fertilization but the traits needed to succeed remain elusive. The natural advantageous qualities that enable only a few selected sperm cells to reach the site of fertilization remain unknown. Although in vitro fertilization (IVF) facilitates the job of spermatozoa, a universally acceptable means of sperm selection is yet to be developed.

Breast cancer may affect young women who have not yet completed childbearing. Assisted reproductive technology (ART) provides alternatives for fertility preservation such as oocyte, embryo or ovarian tissue cryopreservation. We reviewed the published literature on fertility-preserving management in breast cancer, aiming at finding evidence to answer the following questions: (1) What are the fertility sparing options available?; (2) How do these women respond to IVF? and (3) Can pregnancy influence breast cancer recurrence? There is a paucity of publications describing clinical experience and outcome data which limits accessibility to fertility preservation in this setting.

Stem cells and uterine leiomyomas: What is the evidence?

JBRA Assist Reprod

March 2016

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology - Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais.

Uterine leiomyomas, also known as uterine fibroids or uterine myomas, are the most common benign gynecologic tumors found in women of reproductive age. In spite of the numerous published studies evaluating the hormonal dependency, epidemiology, molecular biology, pathology, and genetics of leiomyomas, many questions remain unanswered. The remodeling of the uterus in response to hormonal stimuli and its return to a basal state may be related to adult stem/progenitor cells residing in the endometrial and myometrial layers.

The aim of this review is to analyze the relationship between preovulatory progesterone (P) rise and in vitro fertilization (IVF) pregnancy outcomes. It also investigates the sources and effects of rises in progesterone levels, including the underlying mechanisms and potential strategies in preventing its elevation during ovarian stimulation. Progesterone is produced in the early follicular phase in the adrenal gland, which shifts toward the ovaries prior to ovulation.

Multiple myeloma is the most common primary malignant bone neoplasm in adults, primarily over the age of 40. The most common radiographic findings include osteopenia, lytic lesions, and pathologic fractures. Although marked bone repair and healing can occur following therapy, this is often, paradoxically, a poor prognostic indicator.

In this work we review the dosimetric features of craniospinal axis irradiation in the areas of matching cranial and spinal fields, with reference to the normal structures within the spinal field. The implications of the use of photon or electron modalities for the spinal port were evaluated. A novel method of matching the cranial photon and the spinal electron fields involving a computer-aided junction design is presented.
