Introduction: Thyroid dysfunction is prevalent in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients and significantly impacts renal outcomes and mortality. This study investigated the associations between thyroid function and clinical outcomes, and also the therapeutic effects of thyroid hormone replacement therapy (THRT) in CKD patients.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using data from the China Renal Data System.
Background: Inflammation is associated with adverse outcomes of chronic kidney disease (CKD) or chronic heart failure (CHF), but few large data exist. We aimed to explore the clinical associations, and prognostic consequences of inflammation-based scores in patients with CKD and CHF.
Methods: This work was a retrospective cohort study.

Background: Malaria remains a serious public health problem worldwide, particularly in Africa. Resistance to antimalarial drugs is an essential issue for malaria control and elimination. Currently, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) combined with Sanger sequencing is regarded as the gold standard for mutation detection.

Species-specific long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) possess numerous unknown functions. We have recently reported that short interfering RNAs (siRNAs) designed to target mouse-specific lncRNAs caused cell death exclusively in human cancer cells, sparing normal human cells and mouse cancer cells. However, it is uncertain whether other non-human species-specific lncRNAs could also be applied as sequential targets for designing anti-tumor therapeutic siRNAs.

Objective: To evaluate whether the intense simplified strategy, which comprises short term intensive insulin therapy (SIIT) followed by subsequent oral antihyperglycaemic regimens, could improve long term glycaemic outcomes in patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus and severe hyperglycaemia.
Design: Multicentre, open label, randomised trial.
Setting: 15 hospitals in China between December 2017 and December 2020.

Background: Post-intubation subglottic stenosis (PI-SGS) is a fatal disease which could result in partial or complete narrowing of the airway. Although airway stenting is commonly used as an alternative treatment for PI-SGS patients unsuitable for surgery, complications including stent migration and excessive granulation tissue formation are frequently encountered. Additionally, tracheotomy is necessary in patients undergoing T-tube placement.

Intestinal microecology (IM) is the largest and most important microecological system of the human body. Furthermore, it is the key factor for activating and maintaining the physiological functions of the intestine. Numerous studies have investigated the effects of the gut microbiota on the different tissues and organs of the human body as well as their association with various diseases, and the findings are gradually being translated into clinical practice.

Background: Electrolyte abnormalities are common symptoms of chronic kidney disease (CKD), but previous studies have mainly focussed on serum potassium and sodium levels. Chloride is an important biomarker for the prognosis of various diseases. However, the relationship between serum chloride levels and atrial fibrillation (AF) in CKD patients is unclear.

The pathogenesis mechanism of acute gastric mucosal lesions (AGML) is still unclear; further exploration is urgently needed to find a new therapeutic target. This study aimed to investigate whether morphine might regulate the expression and function of transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) through a cyclic adenosine monophosphate/protein kinase A (cAMP/PKA)-dependent pathway, thereby alleviating gastric mucosal lesions caused by water-immersion restraint stress (WIRS). Rats were administered with intrathecal morphine, TRPA1 antagonist (HC-030031), µ-opioid receptor antagonist, or protein kinase A inhibitor (H-89), respectively, before WIRS.

Background: Nucleus pulposus cell (NPC) senescence in intervertebral disc (IVD) tissue is the major pathological cause of intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation and gut microbiota play important roles in the progression of IDD. This study investigated whether methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3) regulates TLR2 m6A modification and gut microbiota to influence NPC senescence.

Purpose: The risk stratification of pediatric anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) has not been standardized. In this study, new risk factors were included to establish a new risk stratification system for ALCL, and its feasibility in clinical practice was explored.
Materials And Methods: On the basis of the non-Hodgkin's lymphoma Berlin-Frankfurt-Munster 95 (NHL-BFM-95) protocol, patients with minimal disseminated disease (MDD), high-risk tumor site (multiple bone, skin, liver, and lung involvement), and small cell/lymphohistiocytic (SC/LH) pathological subtype were enrolled in risk stratification.

Background: lncRNA β‑1,3‑galactosyltransferase 5‑AS1 (B3GALT5-AS1) plays a vital regulatory role in colon and gastric cancers. However, the biological functions and regulatory mechanisms of B3GALT5-AS1 in keloid progression remain unknown. This study aims to investigate the molecular mechanisms in the B3GALT5-AS1-regulated keloid proliferation and invasion.

Background: Hypoglycemic pharmacotherapy interventions for alleviating the risk of dementia remains controversial, particularly about dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4) inhibitors versus metformin. Our objective was to investigate whether the initiation of DPP4 inhibitors, as opposed to metformin, was linked to a reduced risk of dementia.
Methods: We included individuals with type 2 diabetes over 40 years old who were new users of DPP4 inhibitors or metformin in the Chinese Renal Disease Data System (CRDS) database between 2009 and 2020.
