The importance of virtual reality (VR) has been emphasized by many medical studies, yet it has been relatively under-applied to surgical operation. This study characterized how VR has been applied in clinical education and evaluated its tutorial utility by designing a surgical model of tumorous resection as a simulator for preoperative planning and medical tutorial. A 36-year-old male patient with a femoral tumor who was admitted to the Affiliated Jiangmen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital was randomly selected and scanned by computed tomography (CT).

Creeping fat is a specific feature of Crohn's disease (CD) and is characterized by mesenteric fat wrapping around the intestine. It highly correlates with intestinal transmural inflammation, muscular hypertrophy, fibrosis, and stricture formation. However, the pathogenesis of creeping fat remains unclear.

Renal fibrosis is an important pathological biomarker of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Stimulator of interferon genes/TANK binding kinase 1 (STING/TBK1) axis has been identified as the main regulator of innate immune response and closely related to fibrotic disorder. However, the role of STING/TBK1 signaling pathway in kidney fibrosis is still unknown.

Objective: The objective of this study is to explore the risk factors of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (CCE) in patients with diabetic nephropathy (DN) receiving maintenance hemodialysis, and to establish a nomogram model on this basis.

Method: 144 patients with DN receiving maintenance hemodialysis from February 2020 to February 2021 were selected and followed up for 12 months. They were divided into the occurrence and nonoccurrence groups according to whether CCE occurred.

Purpose: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has obvious clinical value in diabetes, but the conclusions on the diagnostic value of diabetic retinopathy (DR) are not consistent. This study aims to comprehensively evaluate the accuracy of circulating VEGF in the diagnosis of DR in the Asian population by a method of meta-analysis.

Methods: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and China Wanfang Databases were searched for relevant studies on the diagnostic value of VEGF for DR in Asia up to November 2021.

Aim: To investigate the clinical features and prognosis in patients of hyperlipidemic acute pancreatitis with or without diabetes.

Methods: 157 patients with hypertriglyceridemic pancreatitis (HTGP) were included in this study. Patients with a previous history of diabetes were identified in the group of HTGP with diabetes (HTGPD), while patients without a history of diabetes were identified in the group of HTGP.

Background: In the domain of natural language processing, Transformers are recognized as state-of-the-art models, which opposing to typical convolutional neural networks (CNNs) do not rely on convolution layers. Instead, Transformers employ multi-head attention mechanisms as the main building block to capture long-range contextual relations between image pixels. Recently, CNNs dominated the deep learning solutions for diabetic retinopathy grade recognition.

Background And Objectives: To compare mechanical properties of femoral tumor treatments so that better operative strategy for limb tumors surgery is optimized.

Methods: Fourteen femoral CT images were randomly selected to rebuild 3D models by MIMICS. They were then executed by reverse engineering softwares for simulative modes.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares the mechanical behaviors of five common fixation methods for Pauwels-III fractures, including Locking Plate (LP), Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS), Multiple Lag Screw (MLS), and a mixed fixture of DHS+MLS, alongside HemiArthroplasty (HA).
  • Using finite element modeling, researchers analyzed 20 CT scans of femurs to evaluate the performance of these fixation methods in terms of displacement and stress under load.
  • Results showed that while DHS and DHS+MLS had higher stress responses, all fixation methods, including HA and LP, were deemed suitable, with HA and LP recommended for optimal clinical treatment of Pauwels-III fractures.

Background/aims: Uremic tumoral calcinosis (UTC) is a rare disease with metastatic tissue calcification in maintenance hemodialysis (HD) patients. However, limited data are available on the treatment of UTC in HD patients. This article mainly discusses the diagnostic findings and efficacy of treatment on HD patients with UTC.

Little is known about how biomechanics govern the five fixtures such as DHS, MLS, DHS + LS, LP, and HA are accepted as common therapeutic techniques. A series of numerical models for a femoral neck fracture of Pauwels-I will be constructed by innovative approach of finite element in order to determine the most optimized option in comparison with biomechanical performance. Twenty sets of computer tomography scanned femora were imported onto Mimics to extract 3 D models; these specimens were transferred to Geomagic-Studio for a simulative osteotomy and kyrtograph; then, they underwent UG to fit simulative solid models; 5 sorts of fixture were then expressed by Pro-Engineer virtually.

Purpose: To study, for the first time, the effect of wearing ready-made glasses and glasses with power determined by self-refraction on children's quality of life.

Methods: This is a randomized, double-masked non-inferiority trial. Children in grades 7 and 8 (age 12-15 years) in nine Chinese secondary schools, with presenting visual acuity (VA) ≤6/12 improved with refraction to ≥6/7.
