Needs and Preferences for Remote-Delivered Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy in Patients After Acute Coronary Syndrome: A Qualitative Study.

Background: Following acute coronary syndrome (ACS), up to 40% of patients report elevated depressive symptoms which is associated with a two-fold increase in mortality risk due to behavioral and biological mechanisms. Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) delivered via synchronous group videoconferencing could help reduce depressive symptoms.

Objective: To guide MBCT adaptation for ACS patients for a future clinical trial, this qualitative study aimed to explore ACS patients' (1) symptoms after ACS, (2) needs for behavioral health treatment, (3) perspectives on mindfulness intervention and group videoconference delivery, and (4) willingness to self-collect dried blood spots in a research study.

Anti-Thymocyte Globulin as a Therapy for Chronic Lung Allograft Dysfunction: A Single-Center Experience.

Introduction: Anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) is a polyclonal antibody formulation which has been used as a second-line therapy for chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD). Limited data exist evaluating its efficacy; however, several single-center retrospective studies have variably demonstrated either improvement or stabilization of spirometry parameters after administration of ATG. ATG has been in use at UT Southwestern for treatment of CLAD since at least 2010; here, we seek to evaluate the effectiveness of this intervention at our center.

A Peer Support Intervention in Patients With Hematologic Malignancies Undergoing Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT): The STEPP Proof-of-Concept Trial.

Although peer support interventions are associated with improved patient-reported outcomes in diverse cancer populations, structured peer support programs tailored to the needs of patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) are lacking. This single-arm, proof-of-concept trial aimed to refine the Supporting Transplant Experiences with Peer Program (STEPP), a structured, five-session, manualized, phone-delivered peer support intervention for patients undergoing HSCT, informed by qualitative feedback from patients. Adult patients with hematologic malignancies scheduled to undergo allogeneic or autologous HSCT were eligible to participate in the study approximately two weeks prior to their HSCT hospitalization.

A Comparative Analysis of Patient-Reported Outcomes Following Free Tissue Transfer, Partial Foot Amputation, and Below-Knee Amputation in High-Risk Limb Salvage Patients.

Background: The surgical decision for limb-salvage with free tissue transfer (FTT), partial foot amputation (PFA), or below-knee amputation (BKA) for complex lower extremity (LE) wounds hinges on several factors, including patient choice and baseline function. However, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) on LE function, pain, and QoL for chronic LE wound interventions are limited. Thus, the study aim was to compare PROMs in patients who underwent FTT, PFA, or BKA for chronic LE wounds.

Comparison of methods for building polygenic scores for diverse populations.

Polygenic scores (PGSs) are a promising tool for estimating individual-level genetic risk of disease based on the results of genome-wide association studies (GWASs). However, their promise has yet to be fully realized because most currently available PGSs were built with genetic data from predominantly European-ancestry populations, and PGS performance declines when scores are applied to target populations different from the populations from which they were derived. Thus, there is a great need to improve PGS performance in currently under-studied populations.

Clinical cell-surface targets in metastatic and primary solid cancers.

Therapies against cell-surface targets (CSTs) represent an emerging treatment class in solid malignancies. However, high-throughput investigations of CST expression across cancer types have been reliant on data sets of mostly primary tumors, despite therapeutic use most commonly in metastatic disease. We identified a total of 818 clinical trials of CST therapies with 78 CSTs.

Expression, purification, and biochemical characterization of micro- and macroalgal kainoid synthases.

Kainoid natural products are a series of potent ionotropic glutamate receptor agonists produced by a variety of divergent marine micro- and macro-algae. The key biosynthetic step in the construction of the pyrrolidine ring pharmacophore involves a unique branch of non-heme iron α-ketoglutarate dependent dioxygenases (Fe/αKGs) termed the kainoid synthases. These Fe/αKG homologs catalyze a stereoselective C-H abstraction followed by a radical carbon-carbon bond reaction to form the bioactive core on N-prenylated L-glutamic acid substrates.

Combination of Searches for Higgs Boson Pair Production in pp Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector.

This Letter presents results from a combination of searches for Higgs boson pair production using 126-140  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13  TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector. At 95% confidence level (CL), the upper limit on the production rate is 2.9 times the standard model (SM) prediction, with an expected limit of 2.

Studies of the Energy Dependence of Diboson Polarization Fractions and the Radiation-Amplitude-Zero Effect in WZ Production with the ATLAS Detector.

This Letter presents the first study of the energy dependence of diboson polarization fractions in WZ→ℓνℓ^{'}ℓ^{'}(ℓ,ℓ^{'}=e,μ) production. The dataset used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 140  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector. Two fiducial regions with an enhanced presence of events featuring two longitudinally polarized bosons are defined.

Female participation, and sex-specific reporting practices, in polypill randomised controlled trials in the prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease: a secondary analysis of a systematic review.

Background: The polypill is an emerging strategy for the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease. We assessed the participation of females in randomised controlled trials evaluating polypills for prevention of cardiovascular disease and subsequent sex-specific analyses and reporting.

Methods: Cardiovascular polypill trials were identified through a systematic review.

Observation of quantum entanglement with top quarks at the ATLAS detector.

Entanglement is a key feature of quantum mechanics, with applications in fields such as metrology, cryptography, quantum information and quantum computation. It has been observed in a wide variety of systems and length scales, ranging from the microscopic to the macroscopic. However, entanglement remains largely unexplored at the highest accessible energy scales.

Neighborhood Socioeconomic Disadvantage is Associated With Increased Health Care Utilization After Septic and Aseptic Revision Total Hip Arthroplasty.

Background: A greater area deprivation index (ADI), a tool that gauges socioeconomic disadvantage at the neighborhood level, is associated with worse health care outcomes following primary total hip arthroplasty. However, its association with revision total hip arthroplasty (rTHA) is unknown. This study aimed to determine the association between ADI and rates of postoperative health care resource utilization following rTHA.

Nigeria sodium study 2023 policy meeting on dietary sodium reduction in Nigeria.

Background: In line with the WHO Global Action Plan's objective to achieve a 30% relative reduction in the mean population intake of sodium by 2025, the Nigeria Sodium Study (NaSS) team, which aimed to evaluate the implementation and scale-up of national sodium reduction programme, hosted a policy meeting May 22, 2023, in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. The aim was to deliberate on strategies for translating data on salt levels in food and dietary patterns, intending to strengthen sodium policies in Nigeria, with the ultimate goal of producing evidence-based information that can effectively guide strategies and policies for sodium reduction.

Methods: Policymakers from federal, state, and local government levels attended, as well as representatives from national and international universities and non-governmental organizations.

Trends in sex differences in neurodevelopmental outcomes among extremely preterm infants.

Objective: To examine whether changes in survival without moderate or severe neurodevelopmental impairment (NDI) at 18-26 months' corrected age from 1999 to 2018 differed between male and female infants.

Design: This retrospective cohort study used data from the NICHD Neonatal Research Network hospitals. Robust Poisson regression models were used to estimate adjusted relative risks (aRRs) and 95% CIs for survival without moderate or severe NDI between males and females.

Social Determinant of Unconventional Resilience: Tactical Engagement in Medical-Martial Creativity.

Building on our strategic framework and operational model, we will discuss findings from our ethnographic study entitled, "The Impact of Catastrophic Injury Exposure on Resilience in Special Operations Surgical Teams (SOST)." Our goal is to establish that medical-martial creativity supports Special Operation Forces (SOF) medics' ability to fluidly modulate pressure amid real-time military medical decision-making in austere environments. We will use qualitative quotes to explore how SOST medics express medical-martial creativity in support of unconventional resilience.

Clinical and Genomic Features of Classical and Basal Transcriptional Subtypes in Pancreatic Cancer.

Purpose: Transcriptional profiling of pancreatic cancers has defined two main transcriptional subtypes: classical and basal. Initial data suggest shorter survival for patients with basal tumors and differing treatment sensitivity to FOLFIRINOX and gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel by transcriptional subtype.

Experimental Design: We examined 8,743 patients with RNA sequencing from pancreatic cancers performed at Caris Life Sciences.

Sex-Specific Skeletal Muscle Gene Expression Responses to Exercise Reveal Novel Direct Mediators of Insulin Sensitivity Change.

Background: Understanding the causal pathways, systems, and mechanisms through which exercise impacts human health is complex. This study explores molecular signaling related to whole-body insulin sensitivity (Si) by examining changes in skeletal muscle gene expression. The analysis considers differences by biological sex, exercise amount, and exercise intensity to identify potential molecular targets for developing pharmacologic agents that replicate the health benefits of exercise.

Trends in Epidemiology and Treatment of Humerus Fractures in the United States, 2017-2022.

Background Fractures of the humerus are one of the more common fractures in the United States and a cause of fragility fractures in the elderly population. This study aims to understand recent trends in the demographic factors correlated with humeral shaft fractures (HSF) and humeral shaft fracture nonunion (HSFN) following open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) and intramedullary nailing (IMN). Methods The TriNetX database was used to query using International Classification of Diseases-10 (ICD10) diagnosis codes for patients who sustained HSF between 2017 and 2022.

The transforming powder dressing (Altrazeal®, Uluru Inc, Addison, TX, USA) is simple to use, painless to apply and has a wear time of up to 30 days. This study aims to review the current literature to elucidate the impact of transforming powder dressing on healing, pain management and overall patient outcomes. We conducted a systematic review following Preferred Reporting Items of Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines.
