Introduction: Using the data taken from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database, we explored the relationship between the dietary inflammatory index (DII) and low muscle mass (LMM) in adults.

Methods: We examined 20,424 adults ≥ 20 years old from the 1999-2006 and 2011-2018 NHANES. We hypothesized that the DII is positively associated with the risk of LMM in adults.

  • This study investigates how Anmeidan affects hippocampal neurons in sleep-deprived rats.
  • Sixty SD rats were divided into four groups: blank, model, Anmeidan, and melatonin, with Anmeidan being given at 18.18 g·kg~(-1)·d~(-1) for four weeks.
  • Results indicate that sleep deprivation significantly impairs rat behavior, reduces hippocampal neuron health, and alters key protein expressions involved in synaptic function compared to the blank group.

  • The study aimed to investigate how electroacupuncture (EA) impacts the inflammatory response in the brains of obese rats, potentially revealing mechanisms for obesity improvement.
  • Male SD rats were divided into four groups (normal control, model, EA, sham-EA) and subjected to an 8-week high-fat diet to induce obesity; EA was applied to specific acupoints to measure various health indicators.
  • Results showed significant increases in body mass, inflammatory markers, and hypothalamic protein levels in the obesity model group, but also some elevated levels of anti-inflammatory markers following EA, indicating a potential therapeutic effect.

Objectives: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) preconditioning on podocytes and phosphatase and tension homologous protein (PTEN)/phosphoinositide-3-kinase (PI3K) signaling pathway in rats with type 2 diabetic kidney injury, so as to explore its potential mechanisms.

Methods: Fifty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into control, model, EA, inhibitor, and sham EA groups, with 10 rats in each group. Diabetes model was established by high-fat and high-sugar diet and intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (40 mg/kg).

Aims: The involvement of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) osteogenic differentiation during osteoporosis (OP) development has attracted much attention. In this study, we aimed to disclose how LINC01089 functions in human mesenchymal stem cell (hMSC) osteogenic differentiation, and to study the mechanism by which LINC01089 regulates MSC osteogenesis.

Methods: Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blotting were performed to analyze LINC01089, miR-1287-5p, and heat shock protein family A (HSP70) member 4 (HSPA4) expression.

genes can evolve "from scratch" from noncoding sequences, acquiring novel functions in organisms and integrating into regulatory networks during evolution to drive innovations in important phenotypes and traits. However, identifying genes is challenging, as it requires high-quality genomes from closely related species. According to the comparison with nine closely related genomes, we determined at least 178 genes in "baifeng".

Hirudin, a natural biological polypeptide macromolecule secreted by the salivary glands of medicinal leech, is a specific thrombin inhibitor with multiple favourable bioactivities, including anti-coagulation, anti-fibrotic, and anti-tumour. Despite several anticoagulants have been widely applied in clinic, hirudin shows advantages in reducing the incidence of bleeding side effects by virtue of its high specificity in binding to thrombin. As a result, hirudin has been tested in clinical practice to prevent and treat several complex diseases.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections promote liver cancer initiation by inducing inflammation and cellular stress. Despite the primarily indirect effect on oncogenesis, HBV is associated with a recurrent genomic phenotype in HCC, suggesting that it impacts the biology of established HCC. Characterization of the interaction of HBV with host proteins and the mechanistic contributions of HBV to HCC initiation and maintenance could provide insights into HCC biology and uncover therapeutic vulnerabilities.
