Introduction: Using the data taken from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database, we explored the relationship between the dietary inflammatory index (DII) and low muscle mass (LMM) in adults.
Methods: We examined 20,424 adults ≥ 20 years old from the 1999-2006 and 2011-2018 NHANES. We hypothesized that the DII is positively associated with the risk of LMM in adults.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) screening is vital for the early detection and prevention of cervical cancer. However, existing methods often face challenges related to speed, simplicity, and multiplexing, especially in resource-limited settings. Here we developed a portable SlipChip-based multiplexed and rapid nucleic acid testing platform, named SMART, designed to simultaneously detect HPV16 and HPV18.

Background: Parkinson disease (PD) is a progressive neurological disorder that may be managed with therapies like scalp electroacupuncture (SEA). The combination of SEA and medication could potentially offer a new approach for managing PD symptoms. The systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the combined impact of SEA and medication on PD through a comprehensive analysis of randomized clinical trials, focusing on outcomes like effective rate and various scores (total Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS), UPDRS III, and Webster).

Objectives: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) preconditioning on podocytes and phosphatase and tension homologous protein (PTEN)/phosphoinositide-3-kinase (PI3K) signaling pathway in rats with type 2 diabetic kidney injury, so as to explore its potential mechanisms.
Methods: Fifty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into control, model, EA, inhibitor, and sham EA groups, with 10 rats in each group. Diabetes model was established by high-fat and high-sugar diet and intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (40 mg/kg).

Aims: The involvement of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) osteogenic differentiation during osteoporosis (OP) development has attracted much attention. In this study, we aimed to disclose how LINC01089 functions in human mesenchymal stem cell (hMSC) osteogenic differentiation, and to study the mechanism by which LINC01089 regulates MSC osteogenesis.
Methods: Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blotting were performed to analyze LINC01089, miR-1287-5p, and heat shock protein family A (HSP70) member 4 (HSPA4) expression.

Purpose: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease influenced by environmental triggers, including the commensal microbiota. Recent research has highlighted distinctive features of the gut microbiota in RA patients. This study investigates the therapeutic potential of berberine (BBR), a gut microbiota modulator known for its significant anti-RA effects, and elucidates the underlying mechanisms.

genes can evolve "from scratch" from noncoding sequences, acquiring novel functions in organisms and integrating into regulatory networks during evolution to drive innovations in important phenotypes and traits. However, identifying genes is challenging, as it requires high-quality genomes from closely related species. According to the comparison with nine closely related genomes, we determined at least 178 genes in "baifeng".

Background: In the face of a global nursing shortage, nursing interns are crucial to sustaining the healthcare workforce. However, these interns encounter significant challenges in career decision-making, often exacerbated by the impostor phenomenon, which impedes their capacity to make informed choices. Despite its importance, little research has been reported on the specific conditions and contributing factors that affect nursing interns' career decision-making processes.

Rationale: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory gastrointestinal disease typically coexisting with intestinal microbiota dysbiosis, oxidative stress, and an inflammatory response. Although its underlying mechanism of action is unclear, Ma-Mu-Ran Antidiarrheal Capsules (MMRAC) have demonstrated significant therapeutic efficacy for UC.
Methods: The mechanism of action of MMRAC in the treatment of UC model was investigated by combining metabolomics, transcriptomics, and intestinal microbiota detection techniques.

Hirudin, a natural biological polypeptide macromolecule secreted by the salivary glands of medicinal leech, is a specific thrombin inhibitor with multiple favourable bioactivities, including anti-coagulation, anti-fibrotic, and anti-tumour. Despite several anticoagulants have been widely applied in clinic, hirudin shows advantages in reducing the incidence of bleeding side effects by virtue of its high specificity in binding to thrombin. As a result, hirudin has been tested in clinical practice to prevent and treat several complex diseases.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections promote liver cancer initiation by inducing inflammation and cellular stress. Despite the primarily indirect effect on oncogenesis, HBV is associated with a recurrent genomic phenotype in HCC, suggesting that it impacts the biology of established HCC. Characterization of the interaction of HBV with host proteins and the mechanistic contributions of HBV to HCC initiation and maintenance could provide insights into HCC biology and uncover therapeutic vulnerabilities.

Background: Addressing antibiotic resistance is important for reducing parents' self-medication of antibiotics for children's upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs). However, the decision-making process for parents who irrationally use such antibiotics is still unclear. In this study, we aimed to explore the reasons why parents self-medicate antibiotics for children's URTIs based on a discrete choice experiment.
