The novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) nucleic acid test is currently the gold standard for diagnosing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Suitable reference strains for different subgenotypes could greatly facilitate research into HBV/C, but unfortunately they are scarce.
