Atractylodis rhizoma is a common bulk medicinal material with multiple species. Although different varieties of atractylodis rhizoma exhibit variations in their chemical constituents and pharmacological activities, they have not been adequately distinguished due to their similar morphological features. Hence, the purpose of this research is to analyze and characterize the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in samples of atractylodis rhizoma using multiple techniques and to identify the key differential VOCs among different varieties of atractylodis rhizoma for effective discrimination.

The methods of detecting numerous prohibited components are not included in the Technical Specifications for Cosmetic Safety (2015 Edition). Recently, owing to its high speed, sensitivity, and anti-interference properties, ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) became the preferred method of detecting banned substances in cosmetics. In this study, a UPLC-MS/MS method was developed for use in determining 87 prohibited ingredients in cosmetics, including 33 sex hormones, 20 anti-infective drugs, 15 antihistamines, 7 coumarins, 4 sedative-hypnotic drugs, 4 antipyretic and analgesic drugs, 2 allergenic fragrances, and 2 drugs with vasoconstriction effects.

At present, new prohibited substances are becoming more common illegal additions in cosmetics. Clobetasol acetate is a new glucocorticoid, which is not covered in the current national standards and is a homologue of clobetasol propionate. A method was established for the determination of clobetasol acetate as a new glucocorticoid (GC) in cosmetics by ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS).

Water is one of the most widespread impurities and contaminants for pharmaceuticals and chemical products. A simple, fast and reliable water assay method is of high significance for the pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing industries. In this work, lanthanide metal-organic framework Eu-dipicolinic acid/2-aminophthalic acid (Eu-DPA/PTA-NH) was prepared as a double-color ratiometric fluorescent water sensor, which shows ultrasensitive (limit of detection 0.
