Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), which consist of chromatin DNA studded with granule proteins, are released by neutrophils in response to both infectious and sterile inflammation. Beyond the canonical role in defense against pathogens, the extrusion of NETs also contributes to the initiation, metastasis, and therapeutic response of malignant diseases. Recently, NETs have been implicated in the development and therapeutic responses of various types of tumors.

Background: Inflammatory cytokines have been reported to be related to intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) in several previous studies. However, it remains unclear about the causal relationship between inflammatory cytokines and IVDD. This study employs Mendelian randomization (MR) to analyze the causal link between inflammatory cytokines and the risk of IVDD.

cAMP responsive element binding protein 3 (CREB3), belonging to bZIP family, was reported to play multiple roles in various cancers, but its role in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is still unclear. cAMP responsive element binding protein 3 like 3 (CREB3L3), another member of bZIP family, was thought to be transcription factor (TF) to regulate hepatic metabolism. Nevertheless, except for being TFs, other function of bZIP family were poorly understood.

The morbidity and death rates of calcified aortic valves|calcific aortic valve (CAV) disease (CAVD) remain high for its limited therapeutic choices. Here, we investigated the function, therapeutic potential, and putative mechanisms of Enoyl coenzyme A hydratase 1 (ECH1) in CAVD by various in vitro and in vivo experiments. Single-cell sequencing revealed that ECH1 was predominantly expressed in valve interstitial cells and was significantly reduced in CAVs.

Studies on the associations of blood pressure (BP) and the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) had been performed neither among pregnant women nor in Chinese population. This study included participants of pregnant women from a retrospective multicenter cohort, between May 2020 and April 2023. Systolic BP (SBP) and diastolic BP (DBP) of the participants were measured in the third trimester.

The infant gut microbiome is increasingly recognized as a reservoir of antibiotic resistance genes, yet the assembly of gut resistome in infants and its influencing factors remain largely unknown. We characterized resistome in 4132 metagenomes from 963 infants in six countries and 4285 resistance genes were observed. The inherent resistome pattern of healthy infants ( = 272) could be distinguished by two stages: a multicompound resistance phase (Months 0-7) and a tetracycline-mupirocin-β-lactam-dominant phase (Months 8-14).

Consumption of dietary fiber and anthocyanin has been linked to a lower incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC). This study scrutinizes the potential antitumorigenic attributes of a black rice diet (BRD), abundantly rich in dietary fiber and anthocyanin. Our results demonstrate notable antitumorigenic effects in mice on BRD, indicated by a reduction in both the size and number of intestinal tumors and a consequent extension in life span, compared to control diet-fed counterparts.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is among the most prevalent malignant tumors, known for its high heterogeneity. Although many treatments and medications are available, the long-term survival rate of CRC patients is far from satisfactory. Pyroptosis is closely related to tumor progression.

Background: Metabolomics studies have identified various metabolic markers associated with stroke risk, yet much uncertainty persists regarding heterogeneity in these associations between different stroke subtypes. We aimed to examine metabolic profiles associated with incident stroke and its subtypes in Chinese adults.
Methods And Results: We performed a nested case-control study within the Dongfeng-Tongji cohort, including 1029 and 266 incident cases of ischemic stroke (IS) and hemorrhagic stroke (HS), respectively, with a mean follow-up period of 6.

Introduction: Keratoacanthoma (KA) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) are two cutaneous conditions with morphological resemblance, which can complicate the diagnosis in some cases. Using immunohistochemistry staining of biomarkers could be beneficial in resolving this obstacle.
Objectives: We investigated a variety of biomarkers assessed in different studies in order to find the most important and helpful biomarkers for differentiation between SCC and lesions capable of spontaneous regression.

Currently, tumor treatment modalities such as immunotherapy and targeted therapy have more stringent requirements for obtaining tumor growth information and require more accurate and easy-to-operate tumor information detection methods. Compared with traditional tissue biopsy, liquid biopsy is a novel, minimally invasive, real-time detection tool for detecting information directly or indirectly released by tumors in human body fluids, which is more suitable for the requirements of new tumor treatment modalities. Liquid biopsy has not been widely used in clinical practice, and there are fewer reviews of related clinical applications.

The pursuit of multifunctional electrocatalysts holds significant importance due to their comprehension of material chemistry. Amorphous materials are particularly appealing, yet they pose challenges in terms of rational design due to their structural disorder and thermal instability. Herein, we propose a strategy that entails the tandem (low-temperature/250-350 °C) pyrolysis of molecular clusters, enabling preservation of the local short-range structures of the precursor Schiff base nickel (Ni[2(CHNNiO)]).

Molecular imaging enables visualization and characterization of biological processes that influence tumor behavior and response to therapy. The TMTP1 (NVVRQ) peptide has shown remarkable affinity to highly metastatic tumors and and its potential receptor is aminopeptidase P2. In this study, we have designed and synthesized a Ga-labeled cyclic TMTP1 radiotracer (Ga-DOTA-TMTP1), for PET imaging of cervical cancer.

The electrochemical performance of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is plagued by sluggish interfacial kinetics. Fortunately, the Li solvation structure bridges the bulk electrolyte and interfacial chemistry, providing a pathway for promoting electrochemical kinetics in LIBs. Herein, we improve the interfacial kinetics by tuning the Li coordination chemistry based on solvent molecular engineering.

Background: Intervertebral disk degeneration (IVDD) is a common spine disease, and inflammation is considered to be one of its main pathogenesis. Apigetrin (API) is a natural bioactive flavonoid isolated from various herbal medicines and shows attractive anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties; whereas, there is no exploration of the therapeutic potential of API on IVDD. Here, we aim to explore the potential role of API on IVDD in vivo and in vitro.

Phototherapy is a promising modality that could eradicate tumor and trigger immune responses immunogenic cell death (ICD) to enhance anti-tumor immunity. However, due to the lack of deep-tissue-excitable phototherapeutic agents and appropriate excitation strategies, the utility of phototherapy for efficient activation of the immune system is challenging. Herein, we report functionalized ICG nanoparticles (NPs) with the capture capability of tumor-associated antigens (TAAs).
