Interprofessional teaching rounds are a practical application of interprofessional education in bedside teaching, yet there is a lack of research on how interprofessional teaching rounds should be implemented into medical education. This study aimed to describe our experience in developing and implementing interprofessional teaching rounds during a clerkship rotation for medical students, and compares its strengths and weaknesses relative to traditional teaching rounds. Medical students were assigned to either the interprofessional teaching round group ( = 24) or the traditional teaching round group ( = 25), and each group participated in their assigned type of teaching round.

A Cu(I) photoredox-enabled reaction that selectively incorporates a difluoroalkyl group into -aryl glycine derivatives has been established. Using a bench-stable [PhPCFH]Br salt, the -CFH group could be installed either directly on the α-carbon of the glycine backbone or in a three-component fashion using an alkene as a bridge. A series of glycine derivatives have been evaluated, providing access to diverse unnatural amino esters and dipeptides with a -CHF unit.

Background: Gene-edited pigs for xenotransplantation usually contain one or more transgenes encoding human complement regulatory proteins (CRPs). Because of species differences, human CRP(s) expressed in gene-edited pigs may have difficulty inhibiting the activation of exogenous rabbit complement added to a complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC) assay. The use of human complement instead of rabbit complement in CDC experiments may more accurately reflect the actual regulatory activity of human CRP(s).

The study of the multifaceted interactions between neuroscience and cancer is an emerging field with significant implications for understanding tumor biology and the innovation in therapeutic approaches. Increasing evidence suggests that neurological functions are connected with tumorigenesis. In particular, the peripheral and central nervous systems, synapse, neurotransmitters, and neurotrophins affect tumor progression and metastasis through various regulatory approaches and the tumor immune microenvironment.

This study delved into the molecular mechanisms underlying mechanical stress-induced intervertebral disc degeneration (msi-IDD) through single-cell and high-throughput transcriptome sequencing in mouse models and patient samples. Results exhibited an upsurge in macrophage presence in msi-IDD intervertebral disc (IVD) tissues, with secreted phosphoprotein 1 (SPP1) identified as a pivotal driver exacerbating degeneration via the protein kinase RNA-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase/ activating transcription factor 4/ interleukin-10 (PERK/ATF4/IL-10) signaling axis. Inhibition of SPP1 demonstrated promising outcomes in mitigating msi-IDD progression in both in vitro and in vivo models.

Active and stable electrocatalysts are essential for hydrogen production from alkaline water electrolysis. However, precisely controlling the interaction between electrocatalysts and reaction intermediates (HO*, H*, and *OH) remains challenging. Here, we demonstrate an yttrium-doped NiMo-MoO heterogenous electrocatalyst that efficiently promotes water dissociation and accelerates the intermediate adsorption/desorption dynamics in alkaline electrolytes.

Multifunctional materials have attracted tremendous attention in intelligent and interactive devices. However, achieving multi-dimensional sensing capabilities with the same perovskite quantum dot (PQD) material is still in its infancy, with some considering it currently challenging and even unattainable. Drawing inspiration from neurons, a novel multifunctional CsPbBr/PDMS nanosphere is devised to sense humidity, temperature, and pressure simultaneously with unique interactive responses.

Near-infrared (NIR)-II fluorescence imaging-guided photodynamic therapy (PDT) has shown great potential for precise diagnosis and treatment of tumors in deep tissues; however, its performance is severely limited by the undesired aggregation of photosensitizers and the competitive relationship between fluorescence emission and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. Herein, we report an example of an anionic pentamethine cyanine (C5T) photosensitizer for high-performance NIR-II fluorescence imaging-guided PDT. Through the counterion engineering approach, a triphenylphosphine cation (Pco) modified with oligoethylene glycol chain is synthesized and adopted as the counterion of C5T, which can effectively suppress the excessive and disordered aggregation of the resulting C5T-Pco by optimizing the dye amphipathicity and enhancing the cyanine-counterion interactions.

The -doped biochar is recognized as a promising, cost-effective, and efficient material for CO adsorption. However, achieving efficient enrichment of -containing adsorption sites and improving their accessibility remains a bottleneck problem that restricts the adsorption performance of -doped biochar. Herein, a synthesis strategy for nitrogen-doped biochar by one-pot ionothermal treatment of biomass and zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF) precursors accompanied by pyrolysis is demonstrated.

Bisphenol A (BPA), a common endocrine disrupting chemical (EDC), has shown detrimental effects on sperm quality and function in experimental models. However, epidemiological evidence is inconsistent and also there exists a notable lack of data on its analogues, such as bisphenol F (BPF) and bisphenol S (BPS). To investigate the relationships between BPA, BPF and BPS exposures and sperm DNA damage, we conducted a cross-sectional study recruiting 474 Chinese men from an infertility clinic in Wuhan, China.

Quantification of transcription activities in mammalian preimplantation embryos is challenging due to a huge amount of maternally stored transcripts and paucity of research materials. Here, we investigate genome-wide transcription activities of mouse and human preimplantation embryos by quantifying elongating RNA polymerase II. Two transcriptional waves are identified in early mouse embryos, with summits at the 2-cell and 8-cell stages.

We describe a previously uncharacterized ATP-binding cassette A1 super enhancer RNA (ABCA1-seRNA)-mediated cholesterol efflux. In addition, it promoted macrophage inflammatory cytokine release, and was causally correlated with coronary artery disease severity. Mechanistically, ABCA1-seRNA upregulated cholesterol efflux by interacting with mediator complex subunit 23 and recruiting retinoid X receptor-alpha and liver X receptor-alpha to promote ABCA1 transcription in a manner.
