Animal experiments on African swine fever virus (ASFV) are vital to the study of ASFV; however, ASFV can only infect pigs, and animal experiments need to be performed in animal biosafety level 3 (ABSL-3) laboratories, meaning that many small ABSL-3 laboratories are unable to carry out ASFV experiments.
