Potentially toxic elements (PTEs) are widespread pollutants in agricultural fields, presenting significant challenges to the maintenance of soil ecological functions while simultaneously reducing their concentrations. This study detailed the development of a high-strength reusable silicate magnetic composite biochar sphere (SMBCS) characterized by superior magnetic and adsorption properties, synthesized from natural minerals and biochar. The application of SMBCS over three consecutive remediation cycles led to reductions in cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), and arsenic (As) concentrations in soil by 28.

This study presents the development of a magnetic relaxation switching (MRS) immunosensor for the sensitive detection of chlorpyrifos (CPF) with a signal amplification strategy using Pd/Cu-TCPP(Fe) hybrid nanosheets and polydopamine (PDA). Pd/Cu-TCPP(Fe) nanosheets, which exhibit high peroxidase-like activity and excellent storage stability, making them suitable replacements for natural enzymes in biosensors, are further functionalized with goat anti-mouse IgG (Ab) to construct an immunosensor. The mechanism relies on the competition between free CPF and the immobilized bovine serum albumin-CPF conjugates for antibody binding, which modulates the aggregation of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) that are related to the transverse relaxation time.

Introduction: Cauliflower is widely cultivated all over the world is attributed to its palatable flavor, high levels of anti-cancer compounds, and diverse array of nutrients. Exposure to extremely cold stress during production can result in a more frequent occurrence of purple discoloration in cauliflower curds. In response to cold stress, plants naturally produce anthocyanins to eliminate reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated as a defense mechanism.

Industrial workplaces, particularly those involved in ore processing or smelting, pose a high risk of exposure to cadmium, a highly toxic metal. This study isolated and identified eight cadmium-resistant strains from industrial wastewater for their ability to resist cadmium. Enterobacter roggenkampii FACU2 demonstrated exceptional cadmium removal capabilities during our analysis, successfully eliminating 62% of the cadmium.

Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, a model green alga for expressing foreign proteins, faces challenges in multigene expression and enhancing protein expression level in the chloroplast. To address these challenges, we compared heterologous promoters, terminators and intercistronic expression elements (IEEs). We transformed Chlamydomonas chloroplast with a biolistic approach to introduce vectors containing the NanoLuc expression unit regulated by Chlamydomonas or tobacco promoters and terminators.

N-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 LCPUFAs) are essential for physiological requirements and disease prevention throughout life but are not adequately consumed worldwide. Dietary supplementation with plant-derived α-linolenic acid (ALA) has the potential to rebalance the fatty acid profile and enhance health benefits but faces challenges such as high β-oxidation consumption, low hepatic conversion efficiency, and high oxidative susceptibility under stress. This review focuses on the metabolic fate and potential regulatory targets of ALA-containing lipids , specifically the pathway from the gastrointestinal tract to the lymph, blood circulation, and liver.

T-2 toxin, a highly toxic type A trichothecene, is a secondary fungal metabolite produced by various Fusarium species. The consumption of food and feed contaminated with T-2 toxin is a major factor contributing to growth retardation, posing significant risks to both human and animal health. However, the specific targets and mechanisms that mitigate T-2 toxin-induced growth retardation remain unclear.

Withering is one of the major processing steps critical for the quality of black tea. In this study, we investigated the mechanisms underlying the physicochemical changes in metabolites and gene expression during the withering process of black tea using metabolomic and transcriptomic approaches, respectively. Based on gas chromatography/mass spectrometry non-targeted metabolomic approaches (GC-MS) and ultra-high performance liquid chromatograph-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS), a total of 76 volatile compounds and 160 non-volatile compounds were identified from tea leaves, respectively.

The use of oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion has drawn increasing attention in the baking industry. Compared with some of the well-recognized functionalities, such as textural improvers and flavor carriers, its cryoprotective behavior in frozen dough has not been extensively investigated. Herein, this study reported a pea-protein (PP)-stabilized O/W emulsion with good freeze-thaw stability and evaluated its effectiveness as a high-performance dough cryoprotectant.

Despite identifying genes regulating the coat colour in Western pig breeds, the genetic basis of the coat colour in Chinese indigenous pigs is still not understood due to the diversity of indigenous breeds and their genetic differences from exotic pigs. In this study, 215 Wuzhishan pigs with three coat colour patterns (white, black, and black-back/white-belly) were used to conduct a genome-wide association analysis. We found that genes responsible for the coat colour in the Wuzhishan breed are located on chromosome 8.

Embryonic muscle fiber formation determines post-birth muscle fiber totals. The previous research shows SYISL knockout significantly increases muscle fiber numbers and mass in mice, but the mechanism remains unclear. This study confirms that the SYISL gene, maternal gut microbiota, and their interaction significantly affect the number of muscle fibers in mouse embryos through distinct mechanisms, as SYISL knockout alters maternal gut microbiota composition and boosts butyrate levels in embryonic serum.
