The present study investigated the covalent binding behavior of the flavonoids, catechin, eriodictyol, luteolin and quercetin with β-lactoglobulin (βlg). Since the four flavonoids possess the identical A- and B-ring structures, effects of the C-rings on the properties of flavonoids and the corresponding semiquinones are revealed. Experimental methods including DLS and CD spectra indicated that with quercetin at room temperature did not induce aggregation of βlg, whilst binding with the other three flavonoids resulted in aggregation of βlg.

Spodoptera frugiperda is a significant agricultural pest, severely impacting the yield and quality of grain. Chitin is the momentous component of exoskeletons, which has a significant impact on the growth and development of insects. Our previous study found that exposure to lufenuron can reduce the expression of chitinase gene (SfCHT5) and increase the expression of chitin synthase gene (SfCHSB), two key genes for chitin synthesis in S.

Phosphorus (P) is an essential macronutrient for the growth and yield of crops. However, there is limited understanding of the regulatory mechanisms of phosphate (Pi) homeostasis, and its impact on growth, development, and yield-related traits in Brassica napus. Here, we identified four NITROGEN LIMITATION ADAPATATION1 (BnaNLA1) genes in B.

This research was performed to investigate protective effects of carnosic acid on growth performance, intestinal barrier, and cecal microbiota of lipopolysaccharide-challenged broilers. Three hundred 1-day-old yellow-feathered broilers (male) were allocated randomly into 5 treatments, with 6 replicates per treatment, and 10 birds per replicate cage. Birds in both the control group (CON) and the lipopolysaccharide-challenged group were provided with a basal diet, while others were fed a basal diet supplemented with 20, 40, and 60 mg/kg carnosic acid (CA20, CA40, CA60), respectively.

Plant reproduction is a fundamental requirement for plants to sustain genetic inheritance. In the perspective of plant nutrition, such process is strongly influenced by boron deficiency (-B) and as documented about a century ago. To date, little is known about the mechanism of boron deficiency-induced fertility reduction.

As a novel organophosphate ester (NOPE), tris(2,4-di-butylphenyl) phosphate (TDtBPP) has attracted significant attention due to its unexpectedly high detection in natural environments. However, the ecological toxic effects of environmentally relevant concentrations of TDtBPP in organisms remain entirely unknown. In this study, 1 month old zebrafish were exposed to 0, 50, 500, or 5000 ng/L TDtBPP for 150 days, and the reproductive toxicity in male fish was evaluated.

In the context of emphasizing on the food production, clean air guarding and sustainable development of agriculture, straw returning practices have been widely promoted, however, most studies have not linked straw returning adoption and smallholder's agricultural income in double-season rice cropping system. Based on a face-to-face survey data from 797 farmers in Jianghan Plain, Central China, we filled this gap by using the endogenous switching regression model to estimate the impact of farmer's straw returning on their agricultural income. The evidences show number of family laborers and technical training are the main factors influencing farmers' adoption of SR.

Toxoplasma gondii is a ubiquitous protozoan parasite with a complex life cycle containing multiple developmental stages. The parasites have distinct gene expression patterns at different stages to enable stage specific life activities, but the underlying regulatory mechanisms are largely unknown. In this study, a nuclear complex is identified that controls the expression of developmentally regulated genes.

2-methylguanosine is an eukaryote-specific modified nucleoside in transfer RNAs, and mG10 is catalyzed by Trm11-Trm112 protein complex in eukaryotic tRNAs. Here, we show that loss-of-function mutation of the Arabidopsis Trm11 homolog AtTRM11 resulted in mG deficiency associated with disturbed ribosome assembly and overall transcriptome changes, including genes involved in flowering regulation and plant-pathogen interaction. The attrm11 mutant showed phenotypes of enlarged rosette leaves and early flowering, as well as enhanced resistance to Pseudomonas bacterial infection.

Objectives: This study assessed the PM reduction capabilities of evergreen and deciduous broadleaf street trees, focusing on how leaf phenology influences the dispersion of pollutants across particle sizes.
Because therapeutic cancer vaccines can, in theory, eliminate tumor cells specifically with relatively low toxicity, they have long been considered for application in repressing cancer progression. Traditional cancer vaccines containing a single or a few discrete tumor epitopes have failed in the clinic, possibly due to challenges in epitope selection, target downregulation, cancer cell heterogeneity, tumor microenvironment immunosuppression, or a lack of vaccine immunogenicity. Whole cancer cell or cancer membrane vaccines, which provide a rich source of antigens, are emerging as viable alternatives.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFHigh expression of cellular self-activated immunosuppressive molecules and extensive infiltration of suppressive immune cells in the tumor microenvironment are the main factors contributing to glioma's resistance to immunotherapy. Nonetheless, technology to modify the expression of glioma cellular self-molecules through gene editing requires further development. This project advances cell therapy strategies to reverse the immunosuppressive microenvironment of glioma (TIME).

Heat interferes with multiple meiotic processes, leading to genome instability and sterility in flowering plants, including many crops. Despite its importance for food security, the mechanisms underlying heat tolerance of meiosis are poorly understood. In this study, we analyzed different meiotic processes in the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) accessions Col and Ler, their F1 hybrids, and the F2 offspring under heat stress (37 °C).
