N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most prevalent post-transcriptional modification in eukaryotic RNA and is also present in various viral RNAs, where it plays a crucial role in regulating the viral life cycle. However, the molecular mechanisms through which viruses regulate host RNA m6A methylation are not fully understood. In this study, we reveal that SARS-CoV-2 and HCoV-OC43 infection enhance host m6A modification by activating the mTORC1 signaling pathway.

The clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9) system, belonging to the type II CRISPR/Cas system, is an effective gene-editing tool widely used in different organisms, but the size of Cas9 (SpCas9) is quite large (4.3 kb), which is not convenient for vector delivery. In this study, we used a codon-optimized Cas9 (SaCas9) system to edit the tyrosinase (, oculocutaneous albinism II (), and paired box 6.

The kitchen waste and garden waste (KW-GW) co-composting system provides an effective method for recycling these two types of municipal solid waste; however, further improvements are needed to enhance bioconversion performance. This study investigates a novel composting additive, calcium polypeptides (CPPs), derived from waste animal and plant proteins, which can enhance the bioconversion capacity of biomass in the KW-GW co-composting system. As a pH regulator and an available nitrogen source, CPPs significantly increase the compost matrix pH, prolong the thermophilic phase, and reduce emissions of exhaust gases such as CH, NO, NH, and HS by 52.

The demand for sustainable plant-based protein is rising due to concerns over the environmental impact of animal-based protein. One promising yet overlooked protein source is the seed cake generated from Camellia oleifera oil extraction (COSC), which contains 14-20 % crude protein. COSC protein (COSCP) exhibit excellent nutritional and functional properties making it a promising ingredient for innovative food products.

Porphyra haitanensis proteins (PHP) are natural proteins with various nutritional and biological values. This study was to analyze the composition, stability, and antioxidant activity of PHP before and after simulation gastrointestinal digestion (SGD). Caenorhabditis elegans was used as the model to investigate the functional activity and potential mechanisms of action of the PHP digestion products (PHPDP).

This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of a novel capsaicinoid glucoside (CG) against HO-induced oxidative stress in HepG2 cells and elucidate its underlying molecular mechanism. CG treatment significantly reduced HO-induced cell mortality and attenuated the production of lactate dehydrogenase and malondialdehyde in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, CG drastically reduced the ROS levels 18.

In light of the Chinese government's dual carbon goals, achieving cleaner production activities has become a central focus, with regional environmental collaborative governance, including the management of agricultural carbon reduction, emerging as a mainstream approach. This study examines 268 prefecture-level cities in China, measuring the carbon emission efficiency of city agriculture from 2001 to 2022. By integrating social network analysis and a modified gravity model, the study reveals the characteristics of the spatial association network of city agricultural carbon emission efficiency in China.

This study investigates how microbiome colonization influences the development of intestinal type 3 immunity in neonates. The results showed that reduced oxygen levels in the small intestine of neonatal rats induced by Saccharomyces boulardii accelerated microbiome colonization and type 3 immunity development, which protected against Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium infection. Microbiome maturation increased the abundance of microbiome-encoded bile salt hydrolase (BSH) genes and hyocholic acid (HCA) levels.

Brown adipose tissue (BAT) is responsible for non-shivering thermogenesis, but it is absent in some mammals, including pigs. During development, BAT progenitors are derived from paired box 7 (Pax7)-expressing somitic mesodermal stem cells, which also give rise to skeletal muscle. However, the intrinsic mechanisms underlying the fate decisions between brown fat and muscle progenitors remain elusive across species.

Microalgal-bacteria biofilm shows great potential in low-cost greywater treatment. Accurately predicting treated greywater quality is of great significance for water reuse. In this work, machine learning models were developed for simulating and predicting linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) removal using 152-days collected data from a battled oxygenic microalgal-bacteria biofilm reactor (MBBfR).

Organoarsenicals are toxic pollutants of global concern, and their environmental geochemical behavior might be greatly controlled by iron (Fe) (hydr)oxides through coprecipitation, which is rarely investigated. Here, the effects of the incorporation of dimethylarsenate (DMAs(V)), a typical organoarsenical, into the ferrihydrite (Fh) structure on the mineral physicochemical properties and Fe(II)-induced phase transformation of DMAs(V)-Fh coprecipitates with As/Fe molar ratios up to 0.0876 ± 0.

This study investigated the protective effects and Pb-excretion mechanisms of yeast glucans (YG) with varying oxidation degrees in Pb-exposed mice. Results demonstrated that all three glucans effectively reduced blood lead levels, alleviated inflammation, and mitigated liver damage in Pb-exposed mice, with highly oxidized yeast glucan (OYG2) exhibiting the greatest efficacy. Furthermore, the glucans attenuated Pb-induced oxidative stress and pathological changes in the kidney by elevating glutathione and superoxide dismutase levels, thereby restoring renal excretory function (blood urea nitrogen and creatinine).

Cryopreservation induces various cryodamages to the structural or functional aspects of boar sperm, resulting in the deterioration of sperm quality. The extent of cryodamages varies significantly among different individual boars. In our study, 50 boars with either good sperm freezability (GSF) or poor sperm freezability (PSF) were selected from a population of 402 boars.
