Pig gastrointestinal tracts harbor a heterogeneous and dynamic ecosystem populated with trillions of microbes, enhancing the ability of the host to harvest energy from dietary carbohydrates and contributing to host adipogenesis and fatness. However, the microbial community structure and related mechanisms responsible for the differences between the fatty phenotypes and the lean phenotypes of the pigs remained to be comprehensively elucidated. Herein, we first found significant differences in microbial composition and potential functional capacity among different gut locations in Jinhua pigs with distinct fatness phenotypes.

This study aims to explore the potential mechanism of Biejiajian Pills in the treatment of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH) based on lipidomics. A mouse model of NASH was induced by high-fat/high cholesterol diet, and the mice of the normal group were fed with a normal diet. The therapeutic efficacy of Biejiajian Pills against NASH was evaluated through biochemical indexes in both of serum and liver, as well as the hepatic histopathology.

Lipids have been previously implicated in the lifecycle of neuroinvasive viruses. However, the role of lipids in programmed cell death and the relationship between programmed cell death and lipid droplets (LDs) in neuroinvasive virus infection remains unclear. Here, we found that the infection of neuroinvasive virus, such as rabies virus and encephalomyocarditis virus could enhance the LD formation in N2a cells, and decreasing LDs production by targeting diacylglycerol acyltransferase could suppress viral replication.

Preserved eggs are traditional alkali-pickled food in China and have been enjoyed by consumers and extensively studied by researchers for their nutritional tastes and their anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, lipid-lowering, and blood pressure-lowering properties. To study the anti-tumor effects of preserved eggs, this project observed the health on rats, and anti-tumor effects and separated anti-tumor active components on HT-29 cells. SD rats fed for 80 days showed that preserved eggs had no significant effect on weight, food intake, blood pH, liver tissues, or organ indices.

Various exotic metal cations commonly coexist with ferrihydrite nanoparticles in natural environments. Lack of knowledge about the metal cations effects on ferrihydrite nucleation and growth greatly blights the deep understanding of ferrihydrite mineralogical properties and reactivities, and thus the fates of associated nutrients, heavy metals/metalloids, and organic pollutants. Highly diastereo-/enantioselective assembly of 2,3-fused indolizine derivatives could be easily available through a cascade allylation/Friedel-Crafts type reaction enabled by a synergistic Cu/Ir catalysis. This designed protocol provides an unprecedented and facile route to enantioenriched indolizines bearing three stereogenic centers in moderate to high yields with excellent stereoselective control, which also featured broad substrate generality. Remarkably, four stereoisomers of the 2,3-fused indolizine products could be efficiently constructed in a predictable manner through the pairwise combination of copper and iridium catalysts.

Irreversible locking of imine linkages into stable linkages represents a promising strategy to improve the robustness and functionality of covalent organic frameworks (COFs). We report, for the first time, a multi-component one-pot reaction (OPR) for imine annulation to construct highly stable nonsubstituted quinoline-bridged COFs (NQ-COFs), and that equilibrium regulation of reversible/irreversible cascade reactions by addition of MgSO desiccant is crucial to achieve high conversion efficiency and crystallinity. The higher long-range order and surface area of NQ-COFs synthesized by this OPR than those of the reported two-step post-synthetic modification (PSM) facilitate charge carrier transfer and photogeneration ability of superoxide radicals (O˙), which makes these NQ-COFs more efficient photocatalysts for O˙ mediated synthesis of 2-benzimidazole derivatives.
