Department of Ophthalmology, Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital, Tongji University Shanghai 200072, People's Republic of China.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the leading causes of blindness among the elderly. However, the correlation between vascular change and cognitive impairment in AMD disease is still unknown. In our study, we investigate the blood flow change among different layers of the retina in the AMD eye and normal fellow eye of AMD patients and its influence with patients' cognition.

September 2016

Department of Neurosurgery, Fuzhou General Hospital, Xiamen University Medical College 156 Road Xi'erhuanbei, Fuzhou 350025, Fujian, P. R. China.

To explore the effects of microRNA-218 (miR-218) on glioma cell lines and the related mechanism. U251 and U87 cells were transfected with negative control, miR-218 mimic or miR-218 inhibitor using lipofectamine 2000. The expressions of mRNA and proteins were detected with qRT-PCR and Western blotting.

Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is the main cause of graft dysfunction and failure in vascular occlusion both during liver surgery and during liver transplantation. The pathophysiology of hepatic ischemia-reperfusion includes a number of mechanisms including oxidant stress that contribute to various degrees to the overall organ damage. Heme oxygenases (HO) are essential enzymes which degrade heme into biliverdin-IXalpha, free divalent iron, and carbon monoxide (CO).

Purpose: To investigate the gait modification strategies of trunk over left stance phase in patients with right anterior cruciate ligament deficiency (ACL-D).

Methods: Thirty-six patients with right ACL-D and thirty-six health subjects (control) were recruited to undergo a 3-dimensional (3D) gait analysis. Coordinate data from 26 reflective markers positioned on the body surface of participants were recorded with a 3D optical video motion capture system, as they walked on the ground, ascended and descended a custom-built staircase.

Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) have proved to be involved in the detoxifying several oxidants and may play an important role in diabetic retinopathy (DR). Previous studies on the association between glutathione S-transferase T1 (GSTT1) and GSTM1 polymorphism and DR risk reported inconclusive results. To clarify the possible association, we conducted a meta-analysis of eligible studies.

Tibial plateau fractures are often the result of blunt trauma and are associated with severe soft-tissue injury. Operative management of high-energy fractures remains difficult and challenging because the injuries often associated with serious complications. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are the class of short noncoding single-stranded RNA molecules that negatively regulate gene expression.
