Background: Due to the clinical characteristic of frequent recurrence in urothelial bladder cancer (UBC), patients face significant health impacts and economic burdens. Therefore, understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in UBC recurrence is crucial for reducing its recurrence rate. The aim of our study is to help urologists and clinical researchers gain a deeper understanding of the changes in the tumor microenvironment (TME) during UBC recurrence.

Objectives: To understand the mechanism by which colchicine inhibits the inflammatory properties of monosodium urate (MSU) crystal deposits and tophi.
Methods: We investigated the effects of colchicine on the inflammatory properties of monosodium urate (MSU) crystal deposits in several models: (i) In vitro tophus formation by MSU and neutrophils; (ii) MSU-induced peritonitis model; (iii) Alpha-1-antitrypsin-induced peritoneal MSU flare model; (iv) MSU-induced arthritis model. We measured neutrophil numbers, NET formation, IL-1β production and F-actin generation by MSU crystals.

Background: Neutrophils, crucial in the immune system, have recently been implicated in promoting malignancy. RNA methylation, an essential epigenetic feature, plays a key role in tumor microenvironment (TME) reprogramming. However, the relationship between neutrophils and RNA methylation in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains unclear.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder caused by degeneration of dopaminergic neurons, originating from the substantia nigra pars compacta, and characterized by motor symptoms such as bradykinesia, muscle rigidity, resting tremor, and postural instability, as well as non-motor symptoms such as anxiety, depression, reduced sense of smell, cognitive impairment, and visual dysfunction. Emerging evidence highlights the retina as a promising site for non-invasive exploration of PD pathology, due to its shared embryonic origin with the central nervous system. In recent years, with the development of ophthalmic technology, the acquisition of retinal-related function and structure has gradually become mature.

Background: Intra-arterial prourokinase has been shown to be a promising thrombolytic agent in patients with acute ischaemic stroke. Given the global shortage of thrombolytics, we aimed to assess the non-inferiority of intravenous recombinant human prourokinase compared with alteplase in patients with acute ischaemic stroke who were ineligible for or who refused endovascular thrombectomy.
Methods: PROST-2 was a phase 3, open-label, non-inferiority, randomised controlled trial conducted at 61 hospitals in China.

Purpose: Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is an aggressive mesenchymal malignant tumor with poor therapeutic options, but the molecular mechanisms underlying LMS remain largely unknown. Increasing evidence indicates that transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4) levels are closely related to the advancement of various malignant tumors through diverse molecular mechanisms. However, the roles and regulatory mechanisms of TRPV4 in LMS progression remain unclear.

Background: The ideal anesthetic agents for sedation, considering their respiratory and cardiovascular benefits and other perioperative or postoperative outcomes, are still unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate whether ciprofol has advantages over propofol for sedation, particularly concerning respiratory and cardiovascular outcomes and other relevant perioperative measures.
Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search of PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and two Chinese databases for randomized controlled trials comparing intravenous ciprofol and propofol for sedation.

Background: Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) represents a critical complications of end-stage liver disease, serving as an independent predictor of mortality among patients with cirrhosis. Despite effective treatment with rifaximin, some patients with HE still progress to recurrent episodes, posing a significant therapeutic challenge. Recurrent HE is defined as experiencing two or more episodes within a 6-month period.

Acute lateral ankle ligament injuries represent a prevalent form of joint sports trauma, with their occurrence increasing alongside the expanding sports demographic. Inadequate initial management of these injuries can precipitate chronic pain, joint instability, and related complications, sometimes necessitating surgical intervention. Chinese medicine, renowned for its long history and extensive experience in treating ligament injuries, is frequently integrated with modern medical practices for a comprehensive treatment approach.

Acute lung injury (ALI) resulting from bacterial infection poses a significant risk, and its etiology involves the complex interplay of harmful immune responses and blood coagulation. Despite this understanding, the roles and mechanisms of tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) in LPS-induced ALI remain insufficiently elucidated. In this study, we aimed to explore the effects of TFPI in LPS-induced ALI.

Background: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the first cohort of people in China treated with a responsive neurostimulation system (Epilcure TM , GenLight MedTech, Hangzhou, China) for focal drug-resistant epilepsy in this study.
Methods: This multicenter, before-and-after self-controlled study was conducted across 8 centers from March 2022 to June 2023, involving patients with drug-resistant epilepsy who were undergoing responsive neurostimulation (RNS). The study was based on an ongoing multi-center, single-blind, randomized controlled study.

Increasing evidence suggested nephrolithiasis has a close linkage with carotid atherosclerosis (CAS), with Randall's plaque (RP) being a precursor to kidney stones. Our study aimed to examine the crosstalk genes and potential molecular mechanisms between RP and CAS. We obtained microarray data for RP and CAS from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and used weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) and differential gene expression (DEG) analysis to identify shared genes.

Backgrounds: Primary hepatic epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (HEHE) is a rare neoplasm of vascular origin with varying biologic behavior, making it challenging to diagnose.
Case Presentation: We present a case of synchronous hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and HEHE in a 43-year-old Chinese male patient. Multiple hypoechoic liver lesions were depicted, but no specific imaging findings were detected on enhanced computed tomography (CT) or contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Background: While 5-Aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) is widely used to treat actinic keratosis (AK), treatment resistance and recurrence after ALA-PDT remain significant clinical challenges.
Methods: This single-site, retrospective, matched case-control study included 119 patients with histologically confirmed AK to identify clinical and pathological predictors for effectiveness of ALA-PDT. Patients received four consecutive ALA-PDT sessions at intervals of 1 or 2 weeks.

Increasing evidence suggests that metabolic disorders such as obesity are implicated in the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The pathological buildup of lipids in microglia is regarded as a key indicator in brain aging and the progression of AD, yet the mechanisms behind this process remain uncertain. The adipokine ANGPTL4 is strongly associated with obesity and is thought to play a role in the advancement of neurodegenerative diseases.

Our studies indicate that the bone mineral density (BMD) in the screw trajectory is a better predictor of screw loosening than the BMD of the lumbar spine or the screw insertion position. Research has shown that anchorage on the screw tip is the most significant factor for screw anchorage ability, while others argue that decreased bony quality in the pedicle poses a significant risk for screw loosening.

Objective: To investigate the relationship of synaptic loss with glucose metabolism and dopaminergic transporters in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients.
Methods: A total of 16 patients with PD and 11 age-matched healthy controls underwent positron emission tomography (PET) with the tracers [F]SynVesT-1, a ligand for the presynaptic terminal marker synaptic vesicle protein 2 A (SV2A), and FDG. PD patients also underwent PET with the dopamine transporter (DAT) ligand [18F]FP-CIT.
