The components of traditional Chinese medicine(TCMCs) are the basic unit of raw materials for Chinese medicines, and their physical and chemical properties directly affect the choice of dosage forms and the optimization of prescriptions. However, most of TCMCs are multi-component complex systems, and the characterization of their overall properties is still in the exploration stage. On the basis of biological activity, the representative components are determined, and then the individual characteristics are fitted with the weight coefficient of efficacy contribution rate, which may provide reference for characterizing the overall properties of TCMCs.

Phytoplankton in the upper oceans are exposed to changing light levels due to mixing, diurnal solar cycles and weather conditions. Consequently, effects of ocean acidification are superimposed upon responses to variable light levels. We therefore grew a model diatom Thalassiosira pseudonana under either constant or variable light but at the same daily photon dose, with current low (400 μatm, LC) and future high CO (1000 μatm, HC) treatments.

Synthetic hydrocarbon aviation lubricating oils (SHALOs) gradually degrade over time when subjected to high temperatures, resulting in their composition and properties varying over the operation lifetime. Therefore, understanding the SHALO degradation properties by elucidating the mechanism on a molecular level, as a function of high temperature, is of interest. A SHALO was subjected to thermal treatment (TT) at 180, 200, 230, 250, 270, or 300 °C for 2 h.

Bismuth vanadate (BiVO) hollow spheres with porous structure have been successfully fabricated by a one-step wet solution method with no surfactant and template. The structure, morphologies, and composition of the as-prepared products were studied with X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), transmission electron morphology (TEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV-vis spectroscopy. Based upon the time-dependent experimental results, BiVO nanospheres with hollow and solid structures can be controlled effectively through the reaction time, and a reasonable formation process was suggested in this work.

Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (nTiO ) have raised environmental concerns and display potential hazards to aquatic organisms and even humans. However, only a few reports tested the toxicity of nTiO to rotifers. In the present study, acute and chronic toxicity of nTiO to the freshwater rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus was investigated at different temperatures.

Few prior studies have investigated place image from the residents' perspective, how this and residents' place attachment influence attitude to tourism, and consequent reactions. Accordingly, this study aims to develop a model for local residents' pro-tourism behavioral intention and to discover the relationships between constructs. Analysis was based on a sample of 370 residents in Huangshan City, China.

Dynamic tracking of the spatiotemporal coordination among various organelles to in-depth understanding of the mechanism of autophagy have attracted considerable attention. However, the monitor of nucleoli participation in autophagy was somehow neglected. Herein, we report a RNA-targeted bioprobe (ADAP) with high selective permeability into nuclear pore complexes, which induced a two-photon (TP) fluorescence "off-on" response by groove combination with RNA, dynamically monitoring the autophagy process among multiorganelles (nucleoli, mitochondria, and mitochondria-containing lysosomes).

A classical structure for a U-shaped metasurface exhibiting a wideband and large angle electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) effect in the terahertz range is proposed. One horizontal and two vertical strips, which represent the bright and dark modes, respectively, are created for the U-shaped structure. The finite integration time domain (FITD) and equivalent circuit method are compared with the EIT result.

In this study, a fast and efficient method for the separation and analysis of the products in the acid-catalyzed depolymerization of commercially available sodium lignosulfonate has been developed. The depolymerized lignosulfonate products were well separated and characterized by advanced polymer chromatography (APC) employing four ACQUITY APC XT columns in series and a ultraviolet detector. The developed method enabled the detection of relative-low-molecular-mass lignin degradation products with peak molecular weights () of 720, 490, and 260 Da, and an extremely low polydispersity index (PDI) of 1, indicating almost complete conversion of lignosulfonate to smaller molecules.

Previous studies have revealed a specific role of the prefrontal-parietal network in rapid goal-directed chunking (RGDC), which dissociates prefrontal activity related to chunking from parietal working memory demands. However, it remains unknown how the prefrontal and parietal cortices collaborate to accomplish RGDC. To this end, a novel experimental design was used that presented Chinese characters in a chunking task, testing eighteen undergraduate students (9 females, mean age = 22.

Uric acid (UA), scavenger of oxygen radical, is a very important antioxidant that help maintains the stability of blood pressure and antioxidant stress. However, an abnormal UA concentration may be connected with many diseases: a higher UA concentration, comings from improper lifestyle such as purine excessive intake and excessive drinking, may reveal hyperuricemia, gout and some cardiovascular diseases; meanwhile, some genetic diseases can result in a low level UA relatively for a long time. Therefore, to develop a rapid and accurate detection method of UA is urgent and important.
