Article Synopsis
  • Elderly patients with lymphoproliferative diseases, particularly those with lymphoma, are at a higher risk of severe COVID-19 infections, with a significant percentage being classified as severe or critical during the Omicron outbreak in China.
  • Factors such as age over 70, multiple comorbidities, aggressive lymphoma, and recent anti-lymphoma treatment were strongly linked to worse outcomes in these patients.
  • Interestingly, continuous treatment with BTK inhibitors appeared to reduce the severity of COVID-19 infections, while prior use of CD20 antibody treatments increased the risk of severe outcomes.

BRD4 promotes LPS-induced endothelial cells senescence via activating and cooperating STING-IRF3 pathway.

Cell Signal

June 2024

The Fifth People's Hospital of Huai'an, Huaiyin Hospital of Huai'an, Huai'an City 223300, China. Electronic address:

Endothelial cells (ECs) senescence is closely associated with the initiation and development of multiple age-related cardiovascular diseases. It is necessary to explore the underlying molecular mechanisms of ECs senescence, which is not only the basis to decipher cellular senescence, but also a novel therapeutic target for the endothelial senescence-related diseases. BRD4, a key epigenetic regulator, is universally related to gene expression regulation and has been reported to accelerate cell senescence.

Trefoil Factor 1 (TFF1) is considered to be able to inhibit the formation of kidney stone. However, genetic variants in TFF1 and corresponding function in kidney stone development are still not well studied. In this study, the discovery set including 230 cases and 250 controls was used to analyze the association between seven tagSNPs of TFF1 gene and the nephrolithiasis risk.

Metaomics in Clinical Laboratory: Potential Driving Force for Innovative Disease Diagnosis.

Front Microbiol

June 2022

College of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Shenzhen University, Shenzhen, China.

Currently, more and more studies suggested that reductionism was lack of holistic and integrative view of biological processes, leading to limited understanding of complex systems like microbiota and the associated diseases. In fact, microbes are rarely present in individuals but normally live in complex multispecies communities. With the recent development of a variety of metaomics techniques, microbes could be dissected dynamically in both temporal and spatial scales.

Chemoresistance is a major barrier to the treatment of human cancers. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are implicated in drug resistance in cancers, including gastric cancer (GC). In this study, we aimed to explore the functions of circRNA Armadillo Repeat gene deleted in Velo-Cardio-Facial syndrome (circARVCF) in cisplatin (DDP) resistance in GC.

circZFR regulates thyroid cancer progression by the miR-16/MAPK1 axis.

Environ Toxicol

November 2021

Department of Ultrasound Imaging, The Affiliated Huai'an Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University, The Second People's Hospital of Huai'an, Huai'an, China.

Previous studies have identified the dysregulation of various circRNAs in many types of human cancers including thyroid cancer (TC). Circular RNA ZFR (circZFR) serves as an oncogenic circRNA in TC. However, the detailed molecular mechanism of circZFR in TC progression remains to be further explored.

Effects of peak time of myocardial injury biomarkers on mid-term outcomes of patients undergoing OPCABG.

BMC Cardiovasc Disord

April 2021

Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Shanghai East Hospital, School of Medicine, Tongji University, 150 Jimo Road, Shanghai, 200120, China.

Background: With the development of cardiac surgery techniques, myocardial injury is gradually reduced, but cannot be completely avoided. Myocardial injury biomarkers (MIBs) can quickly and specifically reflect the degree of myocardial injury. Due to various reasons, there is no consensus on the specific values of MIBs in evaluating postoperative prognosis.
