This study investigates the effects of varying exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rates and temperatures on the combustion and emissions characteristics of a compression ignition engine fueled with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). Understanding these effects is essential for optimizing renewable fuel applications in compression ignition engines, contributing to cleaner combustion, and supporting sustainable transportation initiatives. The experiments revealed that increasing the EGR rate to 20% not only reduces NOx emissions by approximately 25% but also increases smoke by around 15%, highlighting a trade-off between NOx and particulate matter control.

The mechanical behavior and fracture mechanisms of deep fractured rocks under explosive dynamic loads are critical for understanding rock instability in engineering applications such as blasting operations. This study aims to investigate how the presence of pre-existing cracks and different stress states affect the mechanical properties and fracture patterns of rock-like specimens under dynamic loading conditions. We utilized a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) with an active confining pressure loading device to conduct impact compression tests on rock-like specimens containing pre-existing cracks.

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the infectious diseases caused by the pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis that continuously threatens the global human health. Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine is the only vaccine that has been used clinically to prevent tuberculosis in recent centuries, but its limitations in preventing latent infection and reactivation of tuberculosis do not provide full protection. In this study, we selected the membrane-associated antigen Rv1513 of Mycobacterium.

Transcriptome analysis of adipose tissue in grazing cattle: Identifying key regulators of fat metabolism.

Open Life Sci

April 2024

College of Food Science and Engineering, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, #306 Zhaowuda Road, Saihan District, Huhhot, Inner Mongolia 010018, China.

The taste and tenderness of meat are the main determinants of carcass quality in many countries. This study aimed to discuss the mechanisms of intramuscular fat deposition in grazing and house-breeding cattle. We performed transcriptome analysis to characterize messenger RNA and microRNA (miRNA) expression profiles.

Exosome-mediated delivery of artificial circular RNAs for gene therapy of bladder cancer.

J Cancer

February 2024

The Affiliated Nanhua Hospital, Department of Urology, Hengyang Medical School, University of South China, Hengyang, 421002, Hunan, China.

Bladder cancer (BCa) is one of the most common malignancies affecting men. Oncogenic transcription factors function as an important regulator in the progression of human cancer. In our study, we aimed to construct artificial circular non-coding RNAs (acircRNAs) consisting of three functional units that mimic the CRISPR-Cas system and elucidate its therapeutic role in bladder cancer.

Substitutions of physical activity and sedentary behavior with negative emotions and sex difference among college students.

Psychol Sport Exerc

May 2024

Department of Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health, School of Public Health, Anhui Medical University, Anhui, China; Anhui Provincial Key Laboratory of Population Health and Aristogenices, Anhui, China. Electronic address:

Background: A growing number of studies have found that physical activity (PA) benefits mental health, and sedentary behavior (SB) increases the risk of psychological symptoms, but it remains unclear whether substituting the duration of different activities may affect the association, and whether sex difference exists among college students.

Methods: A longitudinal survey was conducted in three colleges in Anhui province, China. A total of 8049 participants validly answered the questionnaire, which included demographic variables, PA, SB and negative emotions (depressive, anxiety, and stress symptoms).

Background: Inhibitory control (IC), an important component of executive function, plays an important role in the overall development of children and has not been better studied in the field of equine-assisted activity (EAA). Therefore, this study investigated the effects of EAA on IC and the underlying brain neural mechanisms in children aged 7-8 years.

Methods: Forty-eight healthy children aged 7-8 years from the Maple Leaf International School-Xi'an were randomly allocated to the equine-assisted activities group (EAAG) and control group (CG).

Background: This study examines the effects of equine-assisted activity (EAA) training on executive functioning (EF) (inhibitory control, working memory, and cognitive flexibility) in children aged 7-8 years.

Methods: Twenty-Four healthy children aged 7-8 years with a 1:1 ratio of boys to girls were randomly divided into EAA group (EAAG) or control group (CG). The subjects in EAAG were trained for 12 weeks, and CG participated in normal daily activities.

(1) Background: To examine the relationship among just-world beliefs, self-control, and cyberaggression among college students. (2) Methods: A total of 1133 college students were surveyed using the just-world belief scale, self-control scale, and cyberaggression scale. (3) Results: The results showed that college students with low levels of belief in justice frequently showed cyberaggression; belief in a just world directly and negatively predicted cyberaggression, and indirectly predicted student cyberaggression through self-control; gender moderated the indirect effect of self-control on cyberaggression and the direct effect of belief in a just world on cyberaggression.

The resuscitation of dormant is an important cause of adult tuberculosis (TB) transmission. According to the interaction mechanism between and the host, the latency antigen and region of difference 9 (RD9) antigen were selected in this study to prepare the fusion protein DR2. Stimulating clinically diagnosed active tuberculosis infections (i.

Tuberculosis (TB) is recognized as a highly infectious disease worldwide, and Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) remains the only TB vaccine licensed for clinical use. As there is little evidence that BCG is effective in adults, there is an urgent need for a safe and effective vaccine to control TB in adults. In this study, we tested the immunomodulatory efficiency of the fusion protein AR2.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is widely used clinically to treat tendon injuries, and often contains leukocytes. However, the debate regarding the concentration of leukocytes in PRP is still ongoing. This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic effects of leukocyte-rich platelet-rich plasma (LR-PRP) and leukocyte-poor platelet-rich plasma (LP-PRP) on the healing of the bone-tendon interface (BTI) of the rotator cuff.

Background: Mechanical stimulation and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) have been shown to be beneficial for healing of the bone-tendon interface (BTI), but few studies have explored the efficacy of a combination of these applications. We investigated the effect of mechanical stimulation combined with PRP on rotator cuff repair in mice.

Hypothesis: Mechanical stimulation combined with PRP can enhance BTI healing in a murine model of rotator cuff repair.

Chemical reaction networks (CRNs) based on DNA strand displacement (DSD) can be used as an effective programming language for solving various mathematical problems. In this paper, we design three chemical reaction modules by using the DNA strand displacement reaction as the basic principle, with a weighted reaction module, sum reaction module, and threshold reaction module. These modules are used as basic elements to form chemical reaction networks that can be used to solve 0-1 integer programming problems.

Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), the principal catechin of green tea, modulates different molecular mechanisms underlying hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Accumulating studies showed that the activation of prostaglandin (PG) receptor EP1 promotes cell migration and invasion in different cancers, which could be inverted by blocking the EP1 receptor. This study investigated the synergetic effects of EP1-selective antagonist ONO-8711 and EGCG treatment on HCC to better understand the potential strategy to treat HCC.
