Ischemic stroke (IS) often causes fearful sequela, even death. Curcumin was beneficial to IS, but its underlying molecular mechanism is unclear. Mice were subjected to middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) surgery, and BV-2 cells were treated with oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R) induction to establish IS models in vivo and in vitro.

Bioactive α-Pyrone Analogs from the Endophytic Fungus sp. CB10100: α-Glucosidase Inhibitory Activity, Molecular Docking, and Molecular Dynamics Studies.

Molecules

April 2024

Hunan Provincial Key Laboratory for Synthetic Biology of Traditional Chinese Medicine, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Hunan University of Medicine, Huaihua 418000, China.

Article Synopsis
  • * The structure of diaporpyrone F was determined using advanced techniques like HRESIMS and NMR spectroscopy, while bioinformatics analysis suggested that similar compounds are prevalent in fungal species.
  • * Diaporpyrone F showed a 46.40% inhibition of α-glucosidase activity at 800 μM, but no antibacterial activity against MRSA, indicating its potential for further research as a lead compound for developing α-glucosidase inhibitors.

Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a common musculoskeletal condition affecting millions of people worldwide and posing a significant challenge to clinicians and researchers. Emerging evidence suggests that the multifaceted symptomatology of KOA may be alleviated by diacerein. With this in mind, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of diacerein in patients with KOA.

Objective: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) of "Tianshu"(ST25) and "Dachangshu"(BL25) on the intestinal transit function, expression level of glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) and methylation level of GDNF gene promoter region in colon tissue of rats with slow transit constipation (STC), so as to explore its mechanisms underlying improvement of STC.

Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomized into control, saline, model and EA groups (=16 in each group). The STC model was replicated by gavage of compound diphenoxylate suspension (10 mL· kg· d) for 28 days.

Patients with light-chain cardiac amyloidosis (AL-CA) are characterized by high levels of serum carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA 125). However, studies have not explored the correlation between CA 125 and AL-CA. The aim of this study was to explore the clinical implications of an increase in CA 125 in patients with AL-CA.

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, The Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, No. 139 Middle Renmin Road, Furong District, Changsha City, 410011, Hunan Province, China.

Background: Light-chain cardiac amyloidosis (AL-CA) has been highly valued in developed countries, but in developing countries, the recognition and diagnosis of this condition is still limited. There are currently few reports on a large number of Chinese patients with AL-CA. The present study aimed to report real-world clinical characteristics and prognosis of AL-CA in China.

Remote Ischemic Postconditioning for Ischemic Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

Chin Med J (Engl)

April 2018

Department of Neurology, Guangdong Province Hospital of Chinese Medicine, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510120, China.

Background: Remote ischemic postconditioning (RIPostC) appears to protect distant organs from ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). However, cerebral protection results have remained inconclusive. In the present study, a meta-analysis was performed to compare stroke patients with and without RIPostC.
