Essential amino acids (EAA) and microRNAs (miRs) control biological activity of a cell. Whether EAA regulates the activity of miR has never been demonstrated. Here, as proof-of-concept, a tryptophan (Trp, an EAA) complex containing Argonaute 2 (Ago2) and miRs including miR-193a (Trp/Ago2/miR-193a) is identified.

Electronic address:

Diquat (DQ) poisoning has garnered attention in recent years, primarily due to the rising incidence of cases worldwide, coupled with the absence of a viable antidote for its treatment. Despite the fact that diquat monopyridone (DQ-M) has been identified as a significant metabolite of DQ, the enzyme responsible for its formation remains unknown. In this study, we have identified aldehyde oxidase (AOX) as a vital enzyme involved in DQ oxidative metabolism.

Intravenous Injection of Na Ions Aggravates Ang II-Induced Hypertension-Related Vascular Endothelial Injury by Increasing Transmembrane Osmotic Pressure.

Int J Nanomedicine

December 2023

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, School of Medicine & Holistic Integrative Medicine, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing, Jiangsu, 210023, People's Republic of China.

Introduction: Extracellular protein nanoparticles (PNs) and ions perform synergistical functions in the control of transmembrane osmotic pressure (OP) under isotonic conditions. Intravenous injection may disrupt the ion balance and alter PN levels in blood plasma, changing transmembrane OP and damaging vascular endothelial cells.

Methods: Na ions were injected into AngII-induced HUVECs to simulate cell injury in vitro, and tail vein infusion of Na ions into hypertensive rats was performed to assess vascular damage.

Background And Aim: Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) has been shown to positively affect the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, the safety and efficacy of FMT may depend on the route of microbiota delivery. This study investigates the acceptance, satisfaction, and selection preference of a new delivery route, transendoscopic enteral tubing (TET), for treating IBD.

Purpose: Paraquat and diquat are well-known toxic herbicides, at least responsible for hundreds of fatal poisoning events worldwide. However, the determination of diquat and paraquat in plasma and urine is very challenging because of their high polarity and double charge characteristics. In this study, we aim to develop a rapid and reliable method for the determination of paraquat and diquat in human plasma and urine by ultraperformance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of the protein Clip170 in breast cancer invasion and migration, highlighting its association with cancer aggressiveness.
  • Clip170's tension, measured using a novel probe, is influenced by changes in microtubules and phosphorylation by RSK, which affects its distribution pattern during metastasis.
  • Increased Clip170 tension is linked to the formation of structures that promote cancer cell movement, suggesting Clip170 as a promising target for new breast cancer treatments.

Background: Percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) has become a favorable surgical approach for lumbar radiculopathy caused by intervertebral disc herniation. Studies have revealed patients with type II Modic change may suffer from unrelieved low back pain and higher lumbar disc herniation (LDH) recurrence after herniated nucleus pulposus removal. Therefore, in this study, we aim to evaluate how PELD performed in management of LDH patients with type II Modic change.

Background: According to recent studies, ferroptosis is closely related to the efficacy and prognosis of tumour treatment. However, the role of ferroptosis in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) has not been explored comprehensively.

Materials And Methods: The esophageal cancer (EC) transcriptome data was downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), then analyzed, to obtain the differentially expressed messenger RNA (mRNA), microRNA (miRNA), and long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) between groups with the low and high Ferroptosis Potential Index (FPI) and construct a ferroptosis-associated ceRNA network.

This paper proposes a general algorithm to reconstruct watertight 2-manifold 3D bone surface model from CT images based on visual hyper-spherical mapping. The reconstruction algorithm includes three main steps: two-step thresholding, initial watertight surface reconstruction and shape optimization. Firstly, volume sampling points of the target bone with given narrower threshold range are extracted by thresholding with combination of 3D morphology operation.

Orthostatic hypotension (OH) is a common non-motor symptom in Parkinson's disease (PD) and is linked with increased mortality risk among the elderly. Although the locus coeruleus (LC) is the major source of noradrenaline (NA) modulation in the brain, its role in the pathogenesis of OH in PD remains largely elusive. Here we examined 44 well characterized postmortem brains of PD patients and available clinical data to explore the relationship between OH and LC pathology in PD.
