Aidi injection, a classic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula, has been used on a broader scale in treating a variety of cancers. In this study, we aimed to explore the potential anti-tumor effects of Aidi injection in the treatment of neuroblastoma (NB) using network pharmacology (NP). To elucidate the anti-NB mechanism of Aidi injection, an NP-based approach and molecular docking validation were employed.

Microporous organic polymers (MOPs) and metal oxide hybrid composites are considered valuable coating materials because of their versatility derived from the synergistic combination of MOPs' inherent dispersibility and the distinctive properties of metal oxides. In this study, we present the synthesis of sea-urchin-like MOPs hybridised with silver oxide nanoparticles (AgO NPs) to fabricate antibacterial composites suitable for potential antibacterial coating applications. AgO NP-decorated urchin-like MOPs (AgO@UMOPs) were synthesised by employing a combination of two methods: a one-pot Lewis acid-base interaction-mediated self-assembly and a straightforward impregnation process.

Background: The integrated health management system (IHMS), which unites all health care-related institutions under a health-centered organizational framework, is of great significance to China in promoting the hierarchical treatment system and improving the new health care reform. China's IHMS policy consists of multiple policies at different levels and at different times; however, there is a lack of comprehensive interpretation and analysis of these policies, which is not conducive to the further development of the IHMS in China.

Objective: This study aims to comprehensively analyze and understand the characteristics, development, and evolution of China's IHMS policy to inform the design and improvement of the system.

The use of androgen receptor pathway inhibitors (ARPIs) has led to an increase in the proportion of AR-null prostate cancer, including neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC) and double-negative prostate cancer (DNPC), but the mechanism underlying this lineage transition has not been elucidated. We found that ID2 expression was increased in AR-null prostate cancer. In vitro and in vivo studies confirmed that ID2 promotes PCa malignancy and can confer resistance to enzalutamide in PCa cells.

Flap endonuclease 1 (FEN1) is a structure-specific nuclease that is involved in the occurrence and development of various types of tumors. Previous studies have shown that FEN1 plays an important role in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma, however, the molecular mechanisms remain fully elucidated, especially its effect on the cell cycle of hepatocellular carcinoma has not been investigated. In this study, via bioinformatics prediction and clinical specimen verification, we confirmed that FEN1 was highly expressed in HCC and correlated with poor prognosis.

Background: Several large-scale observational studies have found deep vein thrombosis (DVT) to be related with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, whether there is a clear causal connection between the two is unknown.

Methods: Our primary analytical method was the inverse variance-weighted (IVW) approach, complemented by the Mendelian randomisation-Egger (MR-Egger) and weighted median methods.

Background And Aim: The Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria are increasingly used to assess the nutritional status of hospitalized patients and predict the prognosis of patients with malignant tumors; however, malnutrition is often overlooked in overweight individuals, such as colorectal cancer patients. This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of the GLIM criteria combined with handgrip strength (HGS) in overweight colorectal cancer patients.

Methods: This retrospective study enrolled overweight patients who underwent radical resection for colorectal cancer at two centers between 2015 and 2021.

plays an essential part of the carcinogenesis of solid tumors, but its functional relevance within the immune contexture in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) is still uncertain. We intended to investigate the predictive value of expression for survival outcomes and its correlation with immune contexture in CRC patients by utilizing the Cancer Genome Atlas database (n = 619). Validation was performed in cohorts from Zhongshan Hospital (n = 200) and Shanghai Cancer Center (n = 300).

Therapeutic options are limited for individuals with unresectable or metastatic small bowel adenocarcinoma (SBA), necessitating palliative chemotherapy. Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) gene amplification or protein overexpression in SBA is exceedingly rare. HER2 amplification mutations/overexpression serves as a potential target for treatment in various malignancies.

Article Synopsis
  • The TRIANGLE operation is beneficial for pancreatic cancer patients, but the presence of specific vessels in the Heidelberg triangle can affect surgical safety, especially during laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy (LPD).
  • A study analyzed 3D CT scans of 184 patients, identifying two vessel types in the Heidelberg triangle: Type I (no vessels) and Type II (with named vessels).
  • Findings indicated that patients with Type II had significantly higher intraoperative blood loss and more lymph nodes examined than those with Type I, highlighting the need for careful preoperative planning to enhance safety during the procedure.

Previous observational studies have shown an association between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and sarcopenia. However, the causal relationship between IBD (including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease) and sarcopenia remains unclear. Thus, this study investigated whether genetically predicted IBD play a function in the occurrence of sarcopenia using Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis.

Background: Various programmes and models for post-intensive care unit (ICU) follow-up services have been developed worldwide. In China, post-ICU follow-up remains in the exploratory stage and little is known regarding the appropriate form and challenges of implementation, which need to be further explored.

Aim: This study aimed to explore and describe the barriers to and facilitators of post-ICU follow-up services from the perspective of critical care professionals.

Background And Objectives: Previous literature mostly has demonstrated the efficacy of pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) combined with whole nutrition powder in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, the benefits of whey protein as an oral nutritional supplement (ONS) during PR are not clear.

Methods And Study Design: It took 12 weeks to complete the trial, we divided 90 elderly patients with stable-stage COPD into a low-intensity exercise group (n= 30, PR group), PR plus whey proteins complex group (n= 30, PRWP group), and a control group (n= 30) randomly, and assessed index such as exercise capacity, mental health status, lung function, and body composition.

Eldecalcitol prevents muscle loss and osteoporosis in disuse muscle atrophy via NF-κB signaling in mice.

Skelet Muscle

December 2023

Department of Osteoporosis and Bone Disease, Huadong Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Research Section of Geriatric Metabolic Bone Disease, Shanghai Geriatric Institute, Shanghai, 200040, People's Republic of China.

Background: Healthy diet is essential for cardiovascular disease risk management, but its effects among Chinese patients, whose diets differ from Western diets, remain largely unknown.

Methods: In this multicenter, patient- and outcome assessor-blind, randomized controlled feeding trial, 265 Chinese adults with baseline systolic blood pressure 130 to 159 mmHg were randomly assigned into Chinese heart-healthy (CHH) diet or usual diet for a 28-d intervention after a 7-d run-in period on usual diet. Blood lipids and glucose were measured from overnight fasting blood samples before and after the intervention.

Electronic address:

Background: Secretory factors linked to lymphogenesis, such as vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGF-C), angiopoietin like protein 4 (ANGPTL4), and activin A (ACV-A), have been recognized as potential markers of chronic inflammatory status and age-related diseases. Furthermore, these factors may also be linked to frailty. The primary objective of this study was to examine the serum VEGF-C, ANGPTL4, and ACV-A levels in young individuals, healthy older individuals, and older individuals with pre-frailty and frailty, and to determine their association with pro-inflammatory factor levels.
