Drop to Gate Nasal Drops Attenuates Sepsis-Induced Cognitive Dysfunction.

Nasal administration can bypass the blood-brain barrier and directly deliver drugs to the brain, providing a non-invasive route for central nervous system (CNS) diseases. Inspired by the appearance that a gate can block the outside world and the characteristics of the sol-gel transition can form a "gate" in the nasal cavity, a Drop to Gate nasal drop (DGND) is designed to set a gate in nose, which achieves protecting role from the influence of nasal environment. The DGND demonstrates the efficiency and application prospect of delivering drugs to the brain through the N-to-B.

Sarcopenia, sarcopenic obesity and the clinical outcome of the older inpatients with COVID-19 infection: a prospective observational study.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the impact of sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity (SO) on the clinical outcome in older patients with COVID-19 infection and chronic disease.

Methods: We prospectively collected data from patients admitted to Huadong Hospital for COVID-19 infection between November 1, 2022, and January 31, 2023. These patients were included from a previously established comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) cohort.

Background: Inflammation triggers atherosclerotic plaque rupture, leading to acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Following AMI, peri-coronary adipose tissue (PCAT) undergoes a transition from lipid-rich to hydrophilic characteristics due to vascular inflammation. This study investigates PCAT changes and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio levels during AMI.

A retrospective study of first-line therapy and subsequent pyrotinib treatment in advanced lung adenocarcinoma with HER2 mutations.

Objectives: HER2 is an infrequently mutated driver gene in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). At present, there has been no comprehensive large-scale clinical study to establish the optimal first-line treatment strategy for advanced lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) with HER2-Mutant. Besides that, the effectiveness and safety of pyrotinib, a pan-HER inhibitor, in the context of NSCLC are still undergoing investigation.

A qualitative study of geriatric specialist nurses' experiences to navigate delirium in the elderly.

Background: The experiences and perceptions of geriatric specialist nurses are pivotal to understanding the complexities of managing delirium and to developing effective nursing interventions. This qualitative study aims to explore these experiences and perceptions to inform the enhancement of clinical geriatric nursing and care practices.

Methods: Utilizing a qualitative exploratory design, this research engaged a convenience sample of geriatric specialist nurses at a tertiary hospital in Shanghai, China through focus groups and semi-structured interviews.

Neoadjuvant camrelizumab (an anti-PD-1 antibody) plus chemotherapy or apatinib (a VEGFR-2 inhibitor) for initially unresectable stage II-III non-small-cell lung cancer: a multicentre, two-arm, phase 2 exploratory study.

This multicentre, two-arm, phase 2 study aimed to explore the efficacy and safety of neoadjuvant camrelizumab plus chemotherapy or apatinib in patients with initially unresectable stage II-III non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Eligible patients regardless of PD-L1 expression received neoadjuvant camrelizumab 200 mg and platinum-doublet chemotherapy every 3 weeks (arm A) or those with PD-L1-positive tumors received neoadjuvant camrelizumab and apatinib 250 mg once daily (arm B), for 2-4 cycles, followed by surgery. The primary endpoint was major pathological response (MPR) rate.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation in the assessment of acupuncture effect on exercise-induced fatigue.

Background: Acupuncture as a traditional Chinese medicine therapy relies on unique theories to alleviate fatigue. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of acupuncture on exercise-induced fatigue utilizing transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).

Methods: A total of 20 participants with regular exercise habits were recruited for this study.

This phase 3, multicentre, randomised, double-blind, double-dummy, parallel-controlled clinical trial (NCT02205112) evaluated the efficacy and safety of IV nemonoxacin vs. levofloxacin for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in adult patients.

Background: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) represent the most prevalent type of subepithelial lesions (SELs) with malignant potential. Current imaging tools struggle to differentiate GISTs from leiomyomas. This study aimed to create and assess a real-time artificial intelligence (AI) system using endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) images to differentiate between GISTs and leiomyomas.

The dysbiosis of gut microbiota with aging has been extensively studied, revealing its substantial contribution to variety of diseases. However, the impact of aged microbiota in heart failure (HF) remains unclear. In this study, we employed the method of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) from aged donors to investigate its role in the context of HF.

A novel subtype based on driver methylation-transcription in lung adenocarcinoma.

Aims: To identify driver methylation genes and a novel subtype of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) by multi-omics and elucidate its molecular features and clinical significance.

Methods: We collected LUAD patients from public databases, and identified driver methylation genes (DMGs) by MethSig and MethylMix algrothms. And novel driver methylation multi-omics subtypes were identified by similarity network fusion (SNF).

Expanding the clinical spectrum of anti-DPPX encephalitis: a multicenter retrospective study.

Objective: Anti-dipeptidyl-peptidase-like protein-6 (DPPX) encephalitis is a rare autoimmune encephalitis, and clinical and experimental information regarding this disease is limited. We conducted this study to comprehensively describe the clinical characteristics, ancillary test results, neuroimaging results, and treatment response in a group of Chinese patients with anti-DPPX encephalitis for better understanding this disease.

Methods: We recruited 14 patients who tested positive for anti-DPPX antibodies in the serum and/or cerebrospinal fluid from 11 medical centers between March 2021 and June 2023.

A Modified Frailty Phenotype Used for Identifying Frailty in Health Care Practice: Validation Among Chinese Older Adults.

Objectives: The study aimed to evaluate a simplified and practical frailty detection tool derived from the Fried frailty phenotype (FFP). This tool was developed to facilitate the identification of frail individuals in constrained settings, addressing the challenges posed by uncertain cutoffs of FFP indicators in prompt frailty assessment.

Design: A longitudinal study and a cross-sectional study.

Our aim was to determine the role of collagen and calcium binding EGF domain 1 (CCBE1) in oxidative stress and tumorigenesis in non-small cell lung cancer cells (NSCLC). We investigated the tumorigenic potential of CCBE1 in NSCLC using in vitro and in vivo models of CCBE1 overexpression and knockdown.

AQP3 (aquaporin 3 (Gill blood group)), a member of the AQP family, is an aquaglyceroporin which transports water, glycerol and small solutes across the plasma membrane. Beyond its role in fluid transport, AQP3 plays a significant role in regulating various aspects of tumor cell behavior, including cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Nevertheless, the underlying regulatory mechanism of AQP3 in tumors remains unclear.

Clinical phenotypes of adult-onset Behçet's syndrome: a comprehensive cross-sectional study in China.

Behçet's syndrome (BS) is a variant vasculitis that can involve multiple organs with inflammatory manifestations. This study aimed to provide a more comprehensive analysis of the clinical phenotypes and characteristics of BS patients. We enrolled 2792 BS patients referred from China nationwide to Huadong Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University from October 2012 to December 2022.
