In light of the Chinese government's dual carbon goals, achieving cleaner production activities has become a central focus, with regional environmental collaborative governance, including the management of agricultural carbon reduction, emerging as a mainstream approach. This study examines 268 prefecture-level cities in China, measuring the carbon emission efficiency of city agriculture from 2001 to 2022. By integrating social network analysis and a modified gravity model, the study reveals the characteristics of the spatial association network of city agricultural carbon emission efficiency in China.

This study investigates how microbiome colonization influences the development of intestinal type 3 immunity in neonates. The results showed that reduced oxygen levels in the small intestine of neonatal rats induced by Saccharomyces boulardii accelerated microbiome colonization and type 3 immunity development, which protected against Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium infection. Microbiome maturation increased the abundance of microbiome-encoded bile salt hydrolase (BSH) genes and hyocholic acid (HCA) levels.

Brown adipose tissue (BAT) is responsible for non-shivering thermogenesis, but it is absent in some mammals, including pigs. During development, BAT progenitors are derived from paired box 7 (Pax7)-expressing somitic mesodermal stem cells, which also give rise to skeletal muscle. However, the intrinsic mechanisms underlying the fate decisions between brown fat and muscle progenitors remain elusive.

Organoarsenicals are toxic pollutants of global concern, and their environmental geochemical behavior might be greatly controlled by iron (Fe) (hydr)oxides through coprecipitation, which is rarely investigated. Here, the effects of the incorporation of dimethylarsenate (DMAs(V)), a typical organoarsenical, into the ferrihydrite (Fh) structure on the mineral physicochemical properties and Fe(II)-induced phase transformation of DMAs(V)-Fh coprecipitates with As/Fe molar ratios up to 0.0876±0.

This study investigated the protective effects and Pb-excretion mechanisms of yeast glucans (YG) with varying oxidation degrees in Pb-exposed mice. Results demonstrated that all three glucans effectively reduced blood lead levels, alleviated inflammation, and mitigated liver damage in Pb-exposed mice, with highly oxidized yeast glucan (OYG2) exhibiting the greatest efficacy. Furthermore, the glucans attenuated Pb-induced oxidative stress and pathological changes in the kidney by elevating glutathione and superoxide dismutase levels, thereby restoring renal excretory function (blood urea nitrogen and creatinine).

Cryopreservation induces various cryodamages to the structural or functional aspects of boar sperm, resulting in the deterioration of sperm quality. The extent of cryodamages varies significantly among different individual boars. In our study, 50 boars with either good sperm freezability (GSF) or poor sperm freezability (PSF) were selected from a population of 402 boars.

The quality of cigar tobacco leaves is profoundly affected by the timing of their harvest, with both early and late collections resulting in inferior characteristics. While the relationship between maturity and physiological metabolic processes is acknowledged, a comprehensive understanding of the physiological behavior of cigar leaves harvested at different stages remains elusive. This research investigated the physiological and metabolomic profiles of the cigar tobacco variety CX-014, grown in Danjiangkou City, Hubei Province, with leaves sampled at 35 (T1), 42 (T2), 49 (T3), and 56 (T4) days post-inflorescence removal.

Tannic acid (TA) has attracted the attention of researchers as a promising organic ligand capable of forming metal-organic coordination networks with various metal ions at interfaces to impact surface properties. In this study, we innovatively reported a self-assembly method for surface decoration by depositing TA/Fe coatings on the surface of desalted duck egg white nanoparticles (DEWN), further studying the oil/water interfacial properties of the modified particles. The results showed that the ratio and concentration of TA to Fe could modulate interfacial properties.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is an indicator and diverse endocrine syndrome that combines different metabolic defects with clinical, physiological, biochemical, and metabolic factors. Obesity, visceral adiposity and abdominal obesity, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance (IR), elevated blood pressure, endothelial dysfunction, and acute or chronic inflammation are the risk factors associated with MetS. Abdominal obesity, a hallmark of MetS, highlights dysfunctional fat tissue and increased risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Although epigenetic modification has long been recognized as a vital force influencing gene regulation in plants, the dynamics of chromatin structure implicated in the intertwined transcriptional regulation of duplicated genes in polyploids have yet to be understood. Here, we document the dynamic organization of chromatin structure in two subgenomes of allotetraploid cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) by generating 3D genomic, epigenomic and transcriptomic datasets from 12 major tissues/developmental stages covering the life cycle. We systematically identify a subset of genes that are closely associated with specific tissue functions.

To investigate the regulatory mechanisms and pathways of visfatin under immune stress injury in weaned piglets, we established a lipopolysaccharide-induced immune stress model in weaned piglets to study how visfatin affects peripheral immune organs and intestinal function. The results revealed that visfatin improved the inflammatory response in immune-stressed weaned piglets by reducing the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-1β, interleukin-6 and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, as well as decreasing the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio. Visfatin ameliorated oxidative stress in piglets by promoting the expression of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase.

Microcystin-leucine arginine (MC-LR) poses a serious threat to aquatic animals during cyanobacterial blooms. Recently, biochar (BC), derived from rice straw, has emerged as a potent adsorbent for eliminating hazardous contaminants from water. To assess the joint hepatotoxic effects of environmentally relevant concentrations of MC-LR and BC on fish, male adult zebrafish () were sub-chronically co-exposed to varying concentrations of MC-LR (0, 1, 5, and 25 μg/L) and BC (0 and 100 μg/L) in a fully factorial experiment.

The development of multi-omics has increased the likelihood of further improving genomic prediction (GP) of complex traits. Gene expression data can directly reflect the genotype effect, and thus, they are widely used for GP. Generally, the gene expression data are integrated into multiple random effect models as independent data layers or used to replace genotype data for genomic prediction.

Live herpesvirus-vectored vaccines are critical in veterinary medicine, but they can sometimes offer insufficient protection due to suboptimal antigen expression or localization. Encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV) is a significant zoonotic threat, with VP1 protein as a key immunogen on its capsid. To enhance immunogenicity, we explored the use of recombinant pseudorabies virus (rPRV) as a vaccine vector against EMCV.
