Significance: Despite the availability of various anti-seizure medications, nearly 1/3 of epilepsy patients experience drug-resistant seizures. These patients are left with invasive surgical options that do not guarantee seizure remission. The development of novel treatment options depends on elucidating the complex biology of seizures and brain networks.

Ovarian cancer (OC) has a limited immunotherapeutic response; hence, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between CXC-chemokine ligand 13 (CXCL13) expression and overall survival (OS) rate, key immune pathways, degree of immune cell infiltration, and progressive disease (PD)-1 checkpoint blockade. A total of 703 differentially expressed genes were obtained from "The Cancer Genome Atlas" (TCGA) database based on the immune and stromal scores of 379 OC patients for getting the targeted gene CXCL13. The association between CXCL13 and OS in OC patients, biological function annotation of CXCL13, and its correlation with immune components were assessed.

Background: The Yangtze finless porpoise (Neophocaena asiaeorientalis asiaeorientalis, YFP) and the East Asian finless porpoise (Neophocaena asiaeorientalis sunameri, EFP) are 2 subspecies of the narrow-ridged finless porpoise that live in freshwater and saltwater, respectively. The main objective of this study was to provide contiguous chromosome-level genome assemblies for YFP and EFP.
Results: Here, we generated and upgraded the genomes of YFP and EFP at the telomere-to-telomere level through the integration of PacBio HiFi long reads, ultra-long ONT reads, and Hi-C sequencing data with a total size of 2.

Anisakidae parasitism is a prevalent disease in wild populations of Coilia nasus, and can result in a significant loss of germplasm resources. To elucidate the immune response mechanism of C. nasus livers to Anisakidae infection, we collected and analysed 18 parasitic and 18 non-parasitic livers at gonadal developmental stages II, III, and V using histopathology, molecular biology and transcriptome methods.

A meta-analysis was executed to comprehensively examine the impacts of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) care interventions on complications and wound infections following bladder cancer (BCa) surgery. Computer searches were carried out in Embase, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Wanfang and CNKI, from their inception to November 2023, for RCTs regarding perioperative ERAS nursing interventions in patients with BCa. Two independent researchers performed literature screening, extracted data and carried out quality evaluations.

Background: Cough is a common symptom during and after COVID-19 infection; however, few studies have described the cough profiles of COVID-19.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence, severity, and associated risk factors of severe and persistent cough in individuals with COVID-19 during the latest wave of the Omicron variant in China.
Methods: In this nationwide cross-sectional study, we collected information of the characteristics of cough from individuals with infection of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant using an online questionnaire sent between December 31, 2022, and January 11, 2023.

Our prophase studies have manifested that the sweet triterpenoid glycoside from the leaves of (CPST) effectively improved the disorders of glucolipid metabolism and in patients. The current purpose was to further detect its mechanisms involved. The results demonstrated that CPST could ameliorate high-fat diet (HFD)-induced insulin resistance (IR), which was linked to reducing HFD-induced mice's body weight, serum glucose (GLUO), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (T-CHO) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), lowering the area under the oral glucose tolerance curve and insulin tolerance, elevating the percentage of brown adipose, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), reducing fat droplets of adipocytes in interscapular brown adipose tissue (iBAT) and cross-sectional area of adipocytes.

The Yangtze finless porpoises () living in different environments display significant differences in behavior and physiology. To compare and analyze gene expression differences between an ex situ population and a controlled environment population of the Yangtze finless porpoise, we sequenced the transcriptome of blood tissues living in a semi-natural reserve and an artificial facility, respectively. We identified 6860 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), of which 6603 were up-regulated and 257 were down-regulated in the controlled environment vs ex situ comparison.

The use of glycopeptide medications may decline in line with the annual decline in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) detection rates in China. The rate of heterogeneous vancomycin-intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (hVISA)detection may be impacted by this. However, there is currently a dearth of information on the incidence of hVISA in China.

Objective: Based on the interactions between immune components in the tumor microenvironment and ovarian cancer (OC) cells, immunotherapies have been demonstrated to be effective in dramatically increasing survival rates. This study aimed to identify landmark genes, develop a prognostic risk model, and explore its relevance to the efficacy of immunotherapy.
Materials And Methods: A risk model was built based on the immune- and stromal-related genes, which were extracted from the OC gene expression data of "The Cancer Genome Atlas" (TCGA) database.

The mismatch between urban transportation demands and local transportation supplies in municipal regions may cause serious traffic congestion and high vehicle exhaust emissions (VEEs). Although it has been found that road expansion and the provision of road public transport can mitigate traffic congestion and VEEs, the effectiveness of these public strategies in alleviating traffic congestion-related VEEs has been empirically compared in few studies. With the use of a panel dataset for 260 prefecture-level cities in China from 2013 to 2018, we fill this gap via empirically examining the effects of several popular strategies that promote the efficiency of urban road transportation, including road expansion and road public transport provision, on urban air pollution of fine particulate matter (PM).

Multiphoton microscopy is a formidable tool for the pathological analysis of tumors. The physical limitations of imaging systems and the low efficiencies inherent in nonlinear processes have prevented the simultaneous achievement of high imaging speed and high resolution. We demonstrate a self-alignment dual-attention-guided residual-in-residual generative adversarial network trained with various multiphoton images.

Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is one of the most common organic pollutants and is added to various plastic products as a plasticizer. DEHP oxidative metabolite content in the human body is associated with DNA damage in sperm and decreased testosterone levels in blood. In this study, a DEHP-induced sperm DNA damage mouse model was replicated and improved, and the transcriptomic and proteomic characteristics of the model were observed.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) for hypoxic tumors has attracted wide attention owing to its noninvasiveness, easy maneuverability, and instantaneity. However, hypoxia in tumors and penetration depth of conventional ultraviolet light has greatly weakened its performance. To solve these problems, under NIR-II light irradiation, squaric acid nanoparticles (SQ NPs) with superior reactive oxygen, especially, hydroxyl radicals (•OH) production performance were first utilized for hypoxic tumor therapy.

Compost produced by straw and livestock and poultry manure under the action of micro-organisms is one of the main forms of organic alternative fertilizers at present. The present study explored the effects of compost substitution on soil greenhouse gas emissions, soil microbial community changes, and wheat yield to determine the best substitution ratio for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and soil microbial community changes and increasing wheat yield. Using the single-factor randomized block trial design, four treatments were employed, the characteristics of greenhouse gas emission, yield and yield components, and the changes of soil microbial community under different compost substitution ratio in the whole wheat growing season were determined by static box-gas chromatography.
