Background: The current method to evaluate the autonomic balance after renal denervation (RDN) relies on heart rate variability (HRV). However, parameters of HRV were not always predictive of response to RDN. Therefore, the complexity and disorder of heart rhythm, measured by entropy of entropy (EoE) and average entropy (AE), have been used to analyze autonomic dysfunction.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had substantial impacts, including disruptions in routine vaccinations. In Taiwan, COVID-19 was relatively controllable, and the reduction in routine vaccinations was not profound. The impact of the pandemic on vaccination remained unclear.

A survey of specialty choice among obstetrics and gynecology residents in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.

Aim: The percentage of medicine graduates opting for residency in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) has been decreasing in developed countries, including in Taiwan, Japan, and Korea. This multicountry study surveyed the OB/GYN residents affiliated with the Taiwan Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology (TAOG), the Japanese Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (JSOG), and the Korean Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (KSOG) to evaluate the factors affecting the choice of pursing OB/GYN.

Methods: A 17-item questionnaire surveying the factors influencing the choice of pursuing a major medical specialty was translated into Japanese, Korean, and Chinese and administered to postgraduate OB/GYN residents between July 1, 2020, and August 31, 2020.

Background: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 6 (HCV-6) infection is prevalent predominantly in Southeast Asia, and the data on the virologic response of HCV-6 to direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) are sparse in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) (PLWH).

Aim: To assess the virologic response of HCV-6 to DAAs in PLWH.

Methods: From September 2016 to July 2019, PLWH coinfected with HCV-6 initiating DAAs were included.

In the last few years, the use of tissue adhesives in corneal perforation has gained immense popularity in clinical practices. The present study aimed to devise a new application of urocanic-acid-modified chitosan (CS) with methylene blue (MB) as a photosensitizer for the development of a photo-crosslinked tissue adhesive. In particular, the curing time was controlled with the aid of a 650 nm red diode.

Distant Metastasis of Tongue Squamous Cell Carcinoma Presenting as Multiple Subdermal and Intramuscular Cysts: A Case Report.

The most common sites of distant metastasis (DM) in squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the tongue are the lung, bone, and liver; the early identification of metastasis to other sites is difficult. This case report discusses a 48-year-old male initially diagnosed with advanced-stage left tongue SCC, which was treated with wide excision, left radical neck dissection, and adjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Two months after completing adjuvant therapy, multiple painful nodules without local erythematous changes or warmth were found in the bilateral posterior neck and right medial thigh.

Nephrocalcinosis in children who received high-dose vitamin D.

Background: Vitamin D supplements are readily available as over-the-counter preparations. However, although rare, cases of vitamin D overdose still occur and are associated with nephrocalcinosis and life-threatening hypercalcemia. Errors in manufacturing of nutritional supplements may be a cause of vitamin D intoxication in children.

Background: Although the current consensus recommends a standard treatment of high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin with high-dose aspirin to manage Kawasaki disease (KD), the use of different adjunctive therapies remains controversial. A randomized trial of vitamin D supplementation to prevent seasonal influenza and enterovirus infection in children.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate whether vitamin D supplementation can reduce the incidence of influenza and enterovirus infection in Taiwanese children.

Methods: This randomized, double-blind, controlled trial included children aged two to five years between April 2018 and October 2019 from daycare centers. All the participants were randomly assigned to a vitamin D supplementation group (2000 IU/day) or placebo group for one month.

The current treatment paradigm for atrial fibrillation (AF) prioritizes rate control over rhythm control; however, rhythm control has shown benefits over other AF strategies. This study compares the outcomes of rivaroxaban with and without concomitant antiarrhythmic drugs (AADs), using propensity score matching to correct for statistical effects of baseline discrepancies.
