Real-World Analyses of the Treatment Conditions in Patients Initiating Proprotein Convertase Subtilisin/Kexin Type 9 (PCSK9) Inhibitor in Taiwan.

Aims: Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitor is a powerful low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)-lowering therapy, but this drug is expensive. This study aimed to describe the real-world treatment conditions in patients initiating PCSK9 inhibitor in Taiwan.

Methods: This was a multicenter, retrospective, and observational study.

Risk of cardiovascular diseases in cancer patients: A nationwide representative cohort study in Taiwan.

Background: The associations with cancer and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) had inconsistent results. The study aimed to investigate the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) between populations with and without cancer.

Methods: Patients with common cancers in Taiwan were enrolled in the study between 2007 and 2018 using the Taiwan Cancer Registry.

Objectives: Real-world experience with coformulated bictegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide (BIC/FTC/TAF) is sparse as a switch regimen among people living with HIV (PLWH) having achieved viral suppression after previous virologic failures with the emergence of K65N/R.

Methods: In this retrospective study, PLWH aged ≥20 years who had previous virologic failures with emergent K65N/R were included for switching to BIC/FTC/TAF after having achieved plasma HIV RNA load (PVL) <200 copies/ml for ≥3 months. PLWH were excluded if integrase inhibitor resistance-associated mutations were detected.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a malignant tumor arising from the salivary glands. While surgery is the mainstay of treatment for ACC of the palate, adjuvant radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy should be considered in high-risk cases. Oronasal fistula, a complication of palatal surgery, may cause speech disturbance and food regurgitation; the nasoseptal flap is a potential option to repair this defect as it is readily available and reliable.

Association between thyroid cancer and cardiovascular disease risk: a nationwide observation study.

Thyroid Hormone Induces Oral Cancer Growth via the PD-L1-Dependent Signaling Pathway.

Surgical treatment confers prognostic significance in pediatric malignant mediastinal germ cell tumors.

Background: Primary malignant mediastinal germ cell tumors (GCTs) are rare pediatric tumors that have a poorer prognosis compared to GCTs occurring elsewhere in the body. The current study aimed to assess the prognostic factors and treatment outcomes of children with primary malignant mediastinal GCT in Taiwan.

Methods: The authors retrospectively reviewed children 0-18 years old who were newly diagnosed with primary malignant mediastinal GCT between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2019 and were registered in the Taiwan Pediatric Oncology Group patient registry.

iDVIP: identification and characterization of viral integrase inhibitory peptides.

Antiretroviral peptides are a kind of bioactive peptides that present inhibitory activity against retroviruses through various mechanisms. Among them, viral integrase inhibitory peptides (VINIPs) are a class of antiretroviral peptides that have the ability to block the action of integrase proteins, which is essential for retroviral replication. Autoantibodies against type I IFNs in patients with critical influenza pneumonia.

Autoantibodies neutralizing type I interferons (IFNs) can underlie critical COVID-19 pneumonia and yellow fever vaccine disease. We report here on 13 patients harboring autoantibodies neutralizing IFN-α2 alone (five patients) or with IFN-ω (eight patients) from a cohort of 279 patients (4.7%) aged 6-73 yr with critical influenza pneumonia.

A novel reference chart and growth standard of fetal biometry in the Taiwanese population.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to establish a new reference chart and growth standards for fetal biometry in Taiwan.

Materials And Methods: 2047 singleton pregnancies were enrolled in this study with 15,813 fetal scans between 18 and 40 gestational weeks. A reference chart and normal range for fetal biparietal diameter (BPD), abdominal circumference (AC) and femur length (FL) was established by longitudinal quantile regression model.

The effects of estrogen induction therapy on pubertal presentations in turner syndrome patients.

Objective: In this study, we investigated various pubertal presentations and progressions before and after estrogen induction therapy and the correlations with Turner syndrome karyotypes.

Aims: Sacubitril/valsartan (SAC/VAL) has been used in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) could benefit the HFrEF patients with wide QRS durations. Microfluidized Dextran Microgels Loaded with Cisplatin/SPION Lipid Nanotherapeutics for Local Colon Cancer Treatment via Oral Administration.

Multifunctional sequential targeted delivery system is developed as an efficient therapeutic strategy against malignant tumors with selective accumulation and minimal systemic drug absorption. The therapeutic system is comprised of microfluidized dextran microgels encapsulating cisplatin/superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs)-loaded trilaurin-based lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). The microgel system is imparted hierarchically dual targeting via dextran and folic acid (FA) residues, leading to increases both in retention of the microgels in colon and in cellular uptake of the therapeutic LNPs by colon cancer cells while being used for oral therapeutic delivery.

Effects of tongue strengthening exercises on tongue muscle strength: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Tongue strengthening exercise (TSE) has been proposed as an intervention to increase tongue strength and improve swallowing. However, clinical evidence of its effectiveness is lacking.
