Objectives: Patient self-management support (SMS) interventions help stroke survivors control stroke risk factors and assist with secondary prevention. We examined utility and preliminary effectiveness of mobile video-teleconferencing (VT) to deliver SMS to stroke survivors in rural and low-income urban Texas communities.
Methods: We applied a within-subjects design to assess improvement in self-management behaviors and stroke risk factors among stroke survivors receiving SMS intervention through mobile VT.

Introduction: The technology-driven solution can reduce the caregiving burden; however, the needs of dementia caregiving are unique, and attitudes towards adopting technology from the perspectives of all the stakeholders involved in dementia caregiving are unclear. This study aims to assess the acceptability and feasibility of a technology-driven platform to facilitate care coordination platform, Care4AD, from the end-user perspective.
Methods: Care4AD includes three components: (1) Care4AD app: the app is used by caregivers to coordinate care, monitor physical activity, and schedule reminders; (2) Care4AD tablet: a smart tablet is used by the care recipient to display scheduled reminders; and (3) Care4AD tags: a series of wireless sensor tags attached to various objects of daily care to facilitate monitoring instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) and adherence to scheduled tasks.

Purpose Of Review: The goal of this paper is to provide a comparative review of using phone (audio-only) or video for mental health treatments. Our review includes evidence of phone and video's effectiveness in terms of reduced symptomology, retention, satisfaction, therapeutic alliance, and other outcomes of interest. This review also discusses how patients and providers' experiences and attitudes differ between these two modalities.

Providing telemental health services to older adults has become especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic. Video-to-home (VTH) treatment is an effective treatment modality; research shows that older adults are open to using VTH. However, there are unique barriers to using VTH with older adults.

Introduction: COVID-19 spurred an unprecedented transition from in-person to telemedicine visits in March 2020 at our institution for all prenatal counseling sessions. This study aims to explore differences in demographics of expectant mothers evaluated pre- and post-telemedicine implementation and to explore the patient experience with telemedicine.
Methods: A mixed methods study was completed for mothers with a pregnancy complicated by a fetal surgical anomaly who visited a large tertiary fetal center.

Addressing environmental pollution and climate change is one of the biggest sociotechnical challenges of our time. While information technology has led to improvements in healthcare, it has also contributed to increased energy usage, destructive natural resource extraction, piles of e-waste, and increased greenhouse gases. We introduce a framework "Information technology-enabled Clinical cLimate InforMAtics acTions for the Environment" (i-CLIMATE) to illustrate how clinical informatics can help reduce healthcare's environmental pollution and climate-related impacts using 5 actionable components: (1) create a circular economy for health IT, (2) reduce energy consumption through smarter use of health IT, (3) support more environmentally friendly decision-making by clinicians and health administrators, (4) mobilize healthcare workforce environmental stewardship through informatics, and (5) Inform policies and regulations for change.

The role of smoking in the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection is unclear. We used a retrospective cohort design to study data from veterans' Electronic Medical Record to assess the impact of smoking on the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Veterans tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus from 02/01/2020 to 02/28/2021 were classified as: Never Smokers (NS), Former Smokers (FS), and Current Smokers (CS).

Objective: We investigated the association between the complexity of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) and frailty.
Research Design And Methods: Individuals (n = 38) with Grade 2 Wagner DFU were classified into 3 groups based on the Society for Vascular Surgery risk-stratification for major limb amputation as Stage 1 at very low risk (n = 19), Stage 2 at low risk (n = 9), and Stage 3 to 4 at moderate-to-high risk (n = 10) of major limb amputation. Frailty status was objectively assessed using a validated digital frailty meter (FM).

Natriuretic peptide levels are elevated in persons with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages 1-3, but it remains unclear whether this is associated with extracellular volume excess or early cardiovascular changes. We hypothesized that patients with CKD stages 1-3 would have evidence of cardiovascular changes, which would associate with brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), amino-terminal-pro-BNP (NT-pro-BNP), and patient-reported symptoms.Outpatients with CKD stages 1-3 and non-CKD controls were enrolled.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic dramatically increased the use of telemental health via videoconferencing (TMH-V). While TMH-V has been found to be effective and satisfactory to both patients and providers, little is known regarding factors that influence site-level uptake. We examined facilitators and barriers to TMH-V uptake at higher and lower adoption sites within the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

As the use of telemental health-mental health care delivered through video or phone-has increased in the era of COVID, it is important to understand patients' preferences and perspectives regarding the use of video for telehealth visits. A new web-based treatment program for veterans uses video visits with mental health experts to supplement its online cognitive behavioral therapy to treat clinically significant symptoms of depression and/or post-traumatic stress disorder. As part of the program evaluation, Veterans were asked, "How important was it for you to be able to physically see your provider through video telehealth?" to understand whether they thought using video was important and why it may or may not be important.

Advanced liver disease is often uncurable and fatal. Liver transplant is the only curative option for patients with advanced, irreversible liver disease, but the need for new livers far exceeds the supply. Patients with the greatest need as well as the greatest likelihood of benefit, based on a complex array of biomedical and psychosocial considerations, are prioritized for transplant.

Objective: To assess the relationship between walking for exercise and symptomatic and structural disease progression in individuals with knee osteoarthritis (OA).
Methods: We assessed a nested cohort of participants age 50 years or older within the Osteoarthritis Initiative, a community-based observational study in which subjects were enrolled between 2004 and 2006. We focused on 4 dichotomous outcomes from baseline to the 48-month visit, involving determination of the frequency of knee pain and radiographic severity of knee OA on posteroanterior semiflexed knee radiographs.
