We compared urinary liver-type fatty acid-binding protein (L-FABP) among non-pregnant and pregnant women with and without gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Higher urinary L-FABP was found in pregnant with and without GDM, and considerably higher urinary L-FABP was found in the GDM group compared with the non-GDM group. Hyperglycemia and anemia were related with high urinary L-FABP expression.

Although tuberculous pleurisy (TP) presumably involves a hypersensitivity reaction, there is limited evidence indicating overreactive effector responses of γδ T cells and αβ T cells and their interrelation with Foxp3(+) Tregs in pleural and other compartments. We found that TP induced reciprocal representations of Foxp3(+) Tregs and Mtb phosphoantigen-specific Vγ2Vδ2 T cells in different anatomic compartments. Patients with TP exhibited appreciable numbers of "proliferating" Ki-67(+) Vγ2Vδ2 T cells in the airway where Foxp3(+) Tregs were not dominant, whereas striking increases in Foxp3(+) Tregs in the blood and pleural compartments coincided with low frequencies of Vγ2Vδ2 T cells.

The reconstruction of complex hand injury such as multifinger soft tissue defect remains a challenging problem. Two cases of repair of multifinger injury with exposed bones using the free chimeric flaps based on the dorsalis pedis vessels are presented. Two male patients, 46 years old and 36 years old, suffered from a thermocompression injury to the dorsum of fingers resulting in soft tissue defects of multiple fingers.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of tubular damage in short-term (less than five years) type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients and to explore the correlation between tubular markers and their relationship with renal indices at different stages of diabetic nephropathy. A group of 101 short-term T2DM patients and 28 control subjects were recruited. Tubular markers, such as neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), N-acetyl-β-D: -glucosaminidase (NAG), and kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM-1), as well as urinary albumin excretion were measured in voided urine.

Objective: To study the effect of two different absorbable intramedullary nails in treatment of metacarpal and phalanx fractures.

Methods: From January 2002 to December 2002, open reduction and internal fixation were done with two different absorbable intramedullary nails in 60 cases of metacarpal and phalanx fractures (52 cases of open fractures and 8 cases of closed fractures). The fracture locations were metacarpal in 24 cases, proximal phalanx in 22 cases and media phalanx in 14 cases.
