Background: An understanding of the experience of patients with progressive fibrosing interstitial lung disease (PF-ILD) is needed to select appropriate patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) to evaluate treatment effect in clinical trials.

Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted to develop a preliminary conceptual model of the symptoms experienced by patients with PF-ILD and the impacts the disease has on them. An online survey and consensus meetings were then conducted with 12-14 stakeholders (patients, clinicians, regulatory and payer advisors) to refine the conceptual model and critically appraise how key concepts should be measured by PROMs.

Introduction: Children born very preterm have an immature sucking reflex at birth and are exposed to neonatal care that can impede proper palate growth.

Objectives: We aimed to describe the frequency of high-arched palate and posterior crossbite at the age of 5 in children born very preterm and to identify their respective risk factors.

Methods: Our study was based on the data from EPIPAGE-2, a French national prospective cohort study, and included 2,594 children born between 24- and 31-week gestation.

Port-Royal Maternity Unit, Department of Obstetrics, Cochin Broca Hôtel Dieu Hospital, APHP, Paris, France; Obstetrical, Perinatal, and Pediatric Epidemiology Team (Epopé), Center of Research in Epidemiology and Statistics, Université de Paris, INSERM, Paris, France.

Objectives: Prolonged second stage of labor could be associated with an increase in maternal and neonatal morbidity. However, in France, no consensual definition of prolonged 2nd stage of labor exists and therefore factors associated with prolonged second stage have not yet been studied. From national population-based data, we aimed at defining the prolonged 2nd stage of labor in France and identifying its associated factors for women with epidural.

Objective: To develop a composite responder index in primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS): the Sjögren's Tool for Assessing Response (STAR).

Methods: To develop STAR, the NECESSITY (New clinical endpoints in primary Sjögren's syndrome: an interventional trial based on stratifying patients) consortium used data-driven methods based on nine randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and consensus techniques involving 78 experts and 20 patients. Based on reanalysis of rituximab trials and the literature, the Delphi panel identified a core set of domains with their respective outcome measures.

Background: Despite differences in time of sepsis recognition, recent studies support that early initiation of norepinephrine in patients with septic shock (SS) improves outcome without an increase in adverse effects. This study aims to investigate the relationship between 30-day mortality in patients with SS and prehospital norepinephrine infusion in order to reach a mean blood pressure (MAP) > 65 mmHg at the end of the prehospital stage.

Methods: From April 06th, 2016 to December 31th, 2020, patients with SS requiring prehospital Mobile Intensive Care Unit intervention (MICU) were retrospectively analysed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the accuracy of the Withings BPM Connect device for measuring blood pressure (BP) in the general population, following established medical standards for validation.
  • Using a specific method, 85 subjects were analyzed based on two criteria related to the accuracy of the device compared to traditional mercury measurements.
  • The results showed that the Withings BPM Connect met all accuracy requirements of the acknowledged medical standards, indicating it is suitable for home BP monitoring.

Background And Objectives: The repeated open application test (ROAT) is an adjuvant investigation measure to patch testing in the diagnosis of allergic contact dermatitis. ESCD recommends a 15 days duration but its overall duration varies according to publications and patients hardly adhere to prolonged ROAT duration beyond 1 week.

Materials And Methods: The Dermatology and Allergy Group of the French Society of Dermatology performed a prospective study with the aim of determining the best duration for the ROAT.

Background: Electronic devices for blood pressure (BP) measurements require independent clinical validation as recommended by various authorities/societies, both in general and special populations such as pregnancy.

Objective: To assess the accuracy of the Withings BPM Connect device in pregnancy and pre-eclampsia according to the Universal Standard Validation Protocol.

Methods: The Withings BPM Connect device measures BP at the brachial level using the oscillometric method.

Tocilizumab plus dexamethasone versus dexamethasone in patients with moderate-to-severe COVID-19 pneumonia: A randomised clinical trial from the CORIMUNO-19 study group.

EClinicalMedicine

April 2022

Centre de Recherche Épidémiologie et Statistique Sorbonne Paris Cité (CRESS-UMR1153), Inserm / Université Paris, Centre d'épidémiologie clinique, Hôpital Hôtel-Dieu, France.

Article Synopsis
  • A clinical trial was conducted to assess the effectiveness and safety of dexamethasone (DEX) alone versus combined with tocilizumab (TCZ) in patients with moderate-to-severe COVID-19 pneumonia requiring oxygen support.
  • At day 14, the rates of mechanical ventilation or death were similar between the DEX group (14%) and the TCZ+DEX group (12%), indicating no significant improvement from the combination treatment.
  • Despite no clear benefits in reducing mechanical ventilation or mortality with the TCZ+DEX treatment, both treatments had similar safety profiles; however, definitive conclusions are limited due to the broad confidence intervals in the results.

Visual interpretation of brain hypometabolism related to neurological long COVID: a French multicentric experience.

Eur J Nucl Med Mol Imaging

July 2022

Nuclear Medicine Department, APHM, CNRS, Centrale Marseille, Institut Fresnel, Timone Hospital, CERIMED, Aix Marseille Univ, Marseille, France.

Background: This multicentre study aimed to provide a qualitative and consensual description of brain hypometabolism observed through the visual analysis of F-FDG PET images of patients with suspected neurological long COVID, regarding the previously reported long-COVID hypometabolic pattern involving hypometabolism in the olfactory bulbs and other limbic/paralimbic regions, as well as in the brainstem and cerebellum.

Methods: From the beginning of August 2021 to the end of October 2021, the brain F-FDG PET scans of patients referred for suspected neurological long COVID with positive reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and/or serology tests for SARS-CoV-2 infection were retrospectively reviewed in three French nuclear medicine departments (143 patients; 47.4 years old ± 13.
