Despite its prevalence, intimate partner sexual violence (IPSV) remains a concealed and poorly understood form of violence against women. Although it is associated with numerous detrimental effects on mental health, very little is known about the subjective meaning of IPSV for survivors. This study addresses this gap by exploring IPSV from the perspective of female survivors within the context of their relationship with a male partner, using interpretative phenomenological analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to clarify the dermatological features of Costello syndrome (CS) and distinguish them from other similar syndromes like cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome (CFCS) and types of Noonan syndrome (NS).
  • A ten-year multi-center study involving 31 patients found common skin and hair anomalies in CS, such as excessive eyebrows and various types of skin growths, which can help differentiate CS from CFCS and NS.
  • The findings propose multiple melanocytic naevi as a potential marker for a milder form of CS and suggest that acitretin could be beneficial for treating certain skin conditions, although no clear genotype-phenotype link was identified.

Controlled donation after circulatory death in post-cardiac arrest patients: Estimates from a large registry.

Resuscitation

June 2024

Paris Cardiovascular Research Centre (PARCC), INSERM Unit 970, Paris, France; Paris Sudden Death Expertise Centre, Paris, France; Ramsay Générale de Santé, Hôpital Privé Jacques Cartier, France.

Background: Controlled donation after circulatory death (cDCD) in post-anoxic brain injury is a valuable source of organs that is still underused in some countries. We assessed the number of potential cDCD donors after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) in Paris and its suburbs and extrapolated the results to the French population.

Methods: Using the large regional registry of the Great Paris area, we prospectively included all consecutive adults with OHCA with a stable return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) who ultimately died in the intensive care unit (ICU) after withdrawal of life-sustaining treatments (WLST) due to post anoxic brain injury.

Lancet Reg Health Eur

May 2024

Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), Immunology-Infectious Diseases Unit, Hôtel-Dieu Hospital, Université Paris Cité, Paris, France.

Background: No study has compared the virological and immunological status of young people with perinatally-acquired HIV infection (P-HIV) with that of people with HIV adulthood (A-HIV) having a similar duration of infection.

Methods: 5 French cohorts of P-HIV and A-HIV patients with a known date of HIV-infection and receiving antiretroviral treatment (ART), were used to compare the following proportions of: virological failure (VF) defined as plasma HIV RNA ≥ 50 copies/mL, CD4 cell percentages and CD4:CD8 ratios, at the time of the most recent visit since 2012. The analysis was stratified on time since infection, and multivariate models were adjusted for demographics and treatment history.

The pathophysiological underpinnings of critically disrupted brain connectomes resulting in coma are poorly understood. Inflammation is potentially an important but still undervalued factor. Here, we present a first-in-human prospective study using the 18-kDa translocator protein (TSPO) radioligand 18F-DPA714 for PET imaging to allow in vivo neuroimmune activation quantification in patients with coma (n = 17) following either anoxia or traumatic brain injuries in comparison with age- and sex-matched controls.

Article Synopsis
  • - The review discusses how integrating artificial intelligence (AI) with positron emission tomography (PET) imaging can enhance drug discovery, particularly in the field of oncology and immunotherapy.
  • - Out of 87 studies initially identified, 15 specifically focused on the application of AI and PET for drug discovery, with most studies using a combination of PET and CT images and analyzing data mostly from single institutions.
  • - Although many studies explored AI's role in prognosis and tumor phenotyping, there are concerns about the validity of their models, with a significant portion lacking rigorous validation methods. Overall, this integration could revolutionize the therapeutic development process but requires further investigation.

Background: The early identification of sepsis presenting a high risk of deterioration is a daily challenge to optimise patient pathway. This is all the most crucial in the prehospital setting to optimize triage and admission into the appropriate unit: emergency department (ED) or intensive care unit (ICU). We report the association between the prehospital National Early Warning Score 2 (NEWS-2) and in-hospital, 30 and 90-day mortality of SS patients cared for in the pre-hospital setting by a mobile ICU (MICU).

Introduction: Unlike most malignancies, higher body mass index (BMI) is associated with a reduced risk of lung cancer and improved prognosis after surgery. However, it remains controversial whether height, one of determinants of BMI, is associated with survival independently of BMI and other confounders.

Methods: We extracted data on all consecutive patients with resectable non-small cell lung cancer included in Epithor, the French Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery database, over a 16-year period.

Background: Pre-diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with proteinuria, a risk factor for chronic kidney disease. While people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV; PWH) have a higher risk of proteinuria than people without HIV (PWOH), it is unknown whether incident proteinuria differs by HIV serostatus among prediabetic persons.

Methods: The urine protein-to-creatinine ratio was measured at semiannual visits among men in the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study since April 2006.
