Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) on anti-CD20 therapy respond to multiple doses of the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine and the incidence of breakthrough infections.
  • It found that the percentage of participants with antibodies increased significantly after the fourth vaccine dose, but a majority still experienced breakthrough infections during the study.
  • The study concluded that while antibody levels increased post-vaccination, T-cell responses remained stable and were not affected by breakthrough infections.

Gestational surrogacy, in which an infertile couple contracts with a woman to carry a foetus that the intended parents will raise, increases worldwide, and offers a route to parenthood for individuals and couples who otherwise have limited options. However, the situation in Denmark at present is that surrogacy with the help of healthcare professionals is illegal, and international adoption is no longer available. This review gives an overview of the legal situation of surrogacy in Denmark, the impact of the legislation, and medical issues to be aware of as healthcare professionals in the future.

Social health inequity and multimorbidity are strongly associated. This review investigates how it is done through different and complex pathways of which the majority is outside the healthcare system. However, in modern healthcare systems, the increased investment in single, specialised diagnosis-oriented guideline-based treatment without additional primary care investments, may increase the inequity for those with lower social position and multimorbidity.

Acquired hypothyroidism is the most common thyroid disease in paediatric patients and in iodine-replete areas mainly due to autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT). Symptoms of hypothyroidism are unspecific and insidious for which reason thyroid function tests are often part of a general paediatric assessment. Consequently, only few patients present with pronounced symptoms which include a stunted growth pattern and multiorgan involvement when most extreme.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined breakthrough SARS-CoV-2 infections in multiple sclerosis patients treated with ocrelizumab before getting BNT162b2 mRNA vaccinations.
  • A total of 54 MS patients were followed, with 32 (59.3%) testing positive for the virus; however, all cases were mild and manageable.
  • Results showed that non-infected participants had significantly higher antibody levels after the third vaccination, indicating a potential need for ongoing vaccine development for better protection in this patient group.

Introduction: Involving relatives can contribute to better quality of care and treatment, and lead to higher satisfaction with hospitalisation in the patients, relatives and healthcare professionals. Nurses play an important role in developing a trusting relationship and facilitating relatives' involvement, since they are around the patient and relatives all day. Thus, involvement is central to the nursing practice.

This review covers the hard to heal wounds which appear frequently and require a complex time-consuming and resource-demanding treatment. The pathogenesis is often multifactorial and oxygen supply to the ulcer and its surroundings is an essential player in the healing process. Treatment should focus on identifying and optimising the global factors while simultaneously handling the local factors (oxygen supply in the tissue by relieving the pressure and reducing oedema and infection).

Humoral immune response following SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination concomitant to anti-CD20 therapy in multiple sclerosis.

Mult Scler Relat Disord

November 2021

Department of Neurology, Hospital Southwest Jutland, University Hospital of Southern Denmark, Esbjerg, Denmark; Department of Regional Health Research, University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark. Electronic address:

Background: The immunogenicity of COVID-19 vaccine among patients receiving anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody (Ab) treatment has not been fully investigated. Detectable levels of SARS-CoV-2 immunoglobulin G (IgG) are believed to have a predictive value for immune protection against COVID-19 and is currently a surrogate indicator for vaccine efficacy.

Objective: To determine IgG Abs in anti-CD20 treated patients with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Active Surveillance Versus Radical Prostatectomy in Favorable-risk Localized Prostate Cancer.

Clin Genitourin Cancer

August 2019

Copenhagen Prostate Cancer Center, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark; Department of Urology, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Background: Active surveillance (AS) and radical prostatectomy (RP) are both accepted treatments for men with favorable-risk localized prostate cancer (PCa) (ie, clinical tumor category 1-2b, Gleason Grade Group 1-2, and prostate-specific antigen < 20 ng/mL). However, head-to-head studies comparing oncologic outcomes and survival between these 2 treatment strategies are warranted. The objective of this study was to compare the use of prostate cancer treatments and PCa death in men managed on AS and men who underwent immediate RP.

However, the association of moderately increased plasma ferritin with risk of atrial fibrillation in the general population is unknown.

Methods: We examined the association of plasma ferritin concentrations with risk of atrial fibrillation and heart failure in metaanalyses of 35799 men and women from 3 studies of the Danish general population: the Copenhagen City Heart Study, the Danish General Suburban Population Study, and the Copenhagen General Population Study.
