The global prevalence of Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 Infection (PASC) stands at approximately 43 % among individuals who have previously had acute COVID-19. In contrast, in the United States, the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) estimates that around 11 % of individuals who have been infected with SARS-CoV-2 go on to experience long COVID. The underlying causes of PASC remains under investigation, and there are no currently established FDA-approved therapies.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality among breast cancer (BC) patients aged 50 and above. Machine Learning (ML) models are increasingly utilized as prediction tools, and recent evidence suggests that incorporating social determinants of health (SDOH) data can enhance its performance. This study included females ≥ 18 years diagnosed with BC at any stage.

To assess the efficacy and safety of paliperidone palmitate (PP) long-acting injectable antipsychotic (LAI) versus oral antipsychotic (OAP) treatment in adult patients diagnosed with schizophrenia (per or criteria) and varying duration of illness (0-3 years and > 3 years). Patient-level data from the PRIDE, PROSIPAL, and DREaM studies were included in a post hoc analysis. Efficacy and safety outcomes, including relapse assessments, Personal and Social Performance scale scores, Medication Satisfaction Questionnaire total scores, and treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs), were measured systematically.

Objective: The underlying pathology of autoimmune encephalitis is not well characterized due to the limited opportunities to study tissue specimens. Autopsy specimens available at prion surveillance centers from patients with suspected Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease offer a unique opportunity to study the pathology of autoimmune encephalitis. Our objective was to describe pathological findings of autoimmune encephalitis specimens submitted to the U.

Introduction: Given the challenges health systems face in providing effective nonpharmacologic treatment for pain and psychological distress, clinical effectiveness studies of evidence-based strategies such as music therapy (MT) are needed.
Objectives: This study examined changes in patient-reported outcomes (PROs) after MT and explored variables associated with pain reduction of ≥2 units on a 0 to 10 numeric rating scale (NRS).
Methods: A retrospective review was conducted on initial MT interventions provided to adults receiving community hospital care between January 2017 and July 2020.

α-Sulfinyl esters can be readily prepared through thiol substitution of α-bromo esters followed by oxidation to the sulfoxide. Enzymatic resolution with lipoprotein lipase provides both the unreacted esters and corresponding α-sulfinyl carboxylic acids in high yields and enantiomeric ratios. Subsequent decarboxylative halogenation, dihalogenation, trihalogenation and cross-coupling gives rise to functionalized sulfoxides.

Differentiation antagonizing noncoding RNA (DANCR) is recognized as an oncogenic long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) overexpressed in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). We showed in a previous study that RNAi with targeted multifunctional ionizable lipid ECO/siRNA nanoparticles was effective to regulate this undruggable target for effective treatment of TNBC. In this study, we developed dual-targeted ECO/siDANCR nanoparticles by targeting a tumor extracellular matrix oncoprotein, extradomain B fibronectin (EDB-FN), and integrins overexpressed on cancer cells for enhanced delivery of siDANCR.

Rural Ment Health
July 2023
There is growing concern about the availability of healthcare services for rural patients. This systematic literature review evaluates original research on health disparities among rural and urban populations with mental health conditions in North America. Using PRISMA guidelines, we used four electronic databases (Pubmed, Cochrane, PsychInfo, Web of Science) and hand searches and included original research conducted in the United States or Canada before July 2021 that compared health outcomes of patients with any mental health disorder in rural versus non-rural areas.

Objective: Inflammation has received increasing attention as a contributor to the pathophysiology of bipolar disorder (BD) and cardiac hypertrophy into heart failure (HF). Accordingly, we chose BD-related inflammatory markers to investigate their relationships with cardiac left ventricular function and structure in BD.
Methods: Sixty physically healthy and euthymic patients with bipolar I disorder were recruited to compare with 50 healthy normal controls.
This is the primary report of the randomized, placebo-controlled phase 3 BRIGHT AML 1019 clinical trial of glasdegib in combination with intensive chemotherapy (cytarabine and daunorubicin) or non-intensive chemotherapy (azacitidine) in patients with untreated acute myeloid leukemia. Overall survival (primary endpoint) was similar between the glasdegib and placebo arms in the intensive (n = 404; hazard ratio [HR] 1.05; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.

Objective: To assess the feasibility and safety of delayed primary closure (DPC) in Fournier's gangrene (FG) patients with large genital defects.
Methods: A single institution retrospective review was performed from October 2020 to December 2022 of adult males that underwent DPC for FG. All patients underwent standard medical management and were assessed for DPC eligibility by the urology service.

Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is a complex metabolic disorder manifested by hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and deteriorating beta-cell function. A way to prevent progression of the disease might be to enhance beta-cell function and insulin secretion. However, most previous studies examined beta-cell function while patients were using glycemia-lowering agents without an adequate period off medications (washout).

Rationale & Objective: Many adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) have high lipoprotein(a) levels. It is unclear whether high lipoprotein(a) levels confer an increased risk for recurrent ASCVD events in this population. We estimated the risk for recurrent ASCVD events associated with lipoprotein(a) in adults with CKD and prevalent ASCVD.

Purpose: While the T2-FLAIR mismatch sign is highly specific for isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH)-mutant, 1p/19q-noncodeleted astrocytomas among lower-grade gliomas, its utility in WHO grade 4 gliomas is not well-studied. We derived the partial T2-FLAIR mismatch sign as an imaging biomarker for IDH mutation in WHO grade 4 gliomas.
Methods: Preoperative MRI scans of adult WHO grade 4 glioma patients (n = 2165) from the multi-institutional ReSPOND (Radiomics Signatures for PrecisiON Diagnostics) consortium were analyzed.
