Obesity is a risk factor for postmenopausal breast cancer (BC), and evidence suggests a role for adiponectin in the relationship between obesity and BC. We investigated whether adiponectin or other biomarkers mediate the effect of body mass index (BMI) on postmenopausal BC risk in a cohort study nested in the IBIS-II Prevention Trial. We measured adiponectin, leptin, IGF-I, IGFBP-1, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, glycemia, insulin, HOMA-IR index, and SHBG in baseline and 12-month serum samples from 123 cases and 302 matched controls in the placebo arm of the IBIS-II Prevention trial.

Arterial hypertension represents the most important cardiovascular risk factor with a direct responsibility for a large share of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in the world. Despite the wide availability of antihypertensive therapies with documented effectiveness, blood pressure control still remains largely unsatisfactory in large segments of the population. Guidelines for the management of arterial hypertension suggest the preferential use of five classes of drugs-angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin II type I receptor inhibitors, calcium channel blockers, thiazide/thiazide-like diuretics, and beta-blockers-recommending the use of combination therapy, preferably in pre-established combinations, for the majority of hypertensive patients.

Background: Latent tuberculosis infection is an asymptomatic infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Previous studies have shown a host-protective role for heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) during M. tuberculosis infection and an important involvement of glutathione peroxidase-4 (Gpx4) in the necrotic pathology of the disease.

Objective: To describe a laparoscopic technique for ovarian tissue biopsy (OTB) for fertility preservation. In the last years, the demand for fertility preservation has grown because of the increasing survival rates among patients with cancer and the rising awareness of the importance of quality of life after gonadotoxic therapy. Among fertility-sparing approaches, ovarian tissue cryopreservation is a valid strategy to preserve ovarian endocrine and reproductive function in prepubertal and postpubertal women who will undergo gonadotoxic cancer treatments.

The translocation of the testis-determining factor, the SRY gene, from the Y to the X chromosome is a rare event that causes abnormalities in gonadal development. In all cases of males and females carrying this translocation, disorder of sex development is reported. In our study, we described a peculiar pedigree with the first evidence of four healthy females from three generations who are carriers of the newly identified t(X;Y)(q28;p11.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of preoperative embolization on carotid body tumor resection. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were screened for studies published between 2010 and 2022.

Objective: There are few reports of outcomes following stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for the management of cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs) of the basal ganglia or thalamus. Therefore, the authors aimed to clarify these outcomes.
Methods: Centers participating in the International Radiosurgery Research Foundation were queried for CCM cases managed with SRS from October 2001 to February 2021.

Brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer-related death in children. Experimental in vitro models that faithfully capture the hallmarks and tumor heterogeneity of pediatric brain cancers are limited and hard to establish. We present a protocol that enables efficient generation, expansion, and biobanking of pediatric brain cancer organoids.

Low grade gliomas (LGGs) of pineal region are usually difficult to remove and they frequently relapse or progress after front line chemotherapy. Bevacizumab-Irinotecan (BEVIRI) combination has been successfully attempted in children with recurrent LGGs, in most cases not previously irradiated. The efficacy of bevacizumab has also been described in radiation necrosis.

Introduction: Ovarian cancer (OC) is the primary cause of mortality in women diagnosed with gynecological cancer. Our study assessed pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy (PIPAC) as treatment for peritoneal surface metastases (PSM) from recurrent or progressive OC and conducted survival analyses to identify prognostic factors.
Material And Methods: This retrospective cohort study, conducted across 18 international centers, analyzed the clinical practices of patients receiving palliative treatment for PSM from OC who underwent PIPAC.

The tradeoff between speed and accuracy is a well-known constraint for human movement, but previous work has shown that this tradeoff can be modified by practice, and the quantitative relationship between speed and accuracy may be an indicator of skill in some tasks. We have previously shown that children with dystonia are able to adapt their movement strategy in a ballistic throwing game to compensate for increased variability of movement. Here, we test whether children with dystonia can adapt and improve skills learned on a trajectory task.

We retrospectively compared long-term biochemical recurrence rates (BCR) in pN1 PCa patients that underwent adjuvant radiotherapy (aRT) vs. no aRT/early salvage (esRT) after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy and extended pelvic lymphadenectomy. All PCa pN1 M0 patients treated at a single high-volume center between 2010 and 2020 were analyzed.

Aims: Wolfram Syndrome Spectrum Disorder (WFS1-SD), in its "classic" form, is a rare autosomal recessive disease with poor prognosis and wide phenotypic spectrum. Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (DM), optic atrophy (OA) diabetes insipidus (DI) and sensorineural deafness (D) are the main features of WFS1-SD. Gonadal dysfunction (GD) has been described mainly in adults with variable prevalence and referred to as a minor clinical feature.

Uric acid is a marker of inflammation and a risk factor for atherosclerosis that has been suggested to play a role in carotid plaque instability. Reduced atherosclerotic plaque echogenicity at ultrasound examination is associated with alarming histopathological features and inflammation. In this study, we investigated the relationship between serum uric acid (SUA) levels and echogenic patterns of plaque instability in elderly subjects with carotid atherosclerosis.

Introduction: In recent years, the rehabilitation of children with neurological disorders has taken into account the possibility of using videogaming consoles and virtual reality systems to make children's therapy more enjoyable, motivating, participated and effective. This study aims at conducting a systematic review about the use and the efficacy of digital games in pediatric neurorehabilitation.
Evidence Acquisition: In accordance with the PRISMA approach, a rather wide-ranging search was conducted on PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases by using different combinations of keywords based on MeSH terms.
