Background: Mobile phone SMS text message reminders have shown moderate effects in improving participation rates in ongoing colorectal cancer screening programs.
Objective: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of SMS text messages as a replacement for routine postal reminders in a fecal immunochemical test-based colorectal cancer screening program in Catalonia, Spain.
Methods: We conducted a randomized controlled trial among individuals aged 50 to 69 years who were invited to screening but had not completed their fecal immunochemical test within 6 weeks.

Objective: To analyse the interrater reliability of the NEUMOBACT checklist and verify whether consistent results are reproducible.
Methods: A validation study with a cross-sectional design, compliant with the GRRAS checklist, among ICU nurses attending a SIMULAZERO course with an Objective Structured Clinical Evaluation simulation format, to verify transfer from theory to clinical practice of knowledge and skills in ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and catheter-related bacteraemia (CRB) prevention. A minimum sample size of 111 pairs of nurse raters was calculated.

Background: Endoscopic evaluation 6-12 months after ileocolonic resection (ICR) in Crohn's disease (CD) is advised to assess the development of postoperative recurrence (POR) but no further recommendations are available for long-term monitoring if no POR is noticed.
Methods: Prospective, open-label, study including asymptomatic patients with CD and ICR in whom no POR was observed at the last endoscopic evaluation. Patients were followed-up for two years and ileocolonoscopy was performed by means of a faecal calprotectin (FC)-based strategy.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly aggressive subtype with limited therapeutic options, leading to higher relapse rates and mortality. Identifying prognostic biomarkers like caveolin-1 (CAV1) is crucial for personalized treatment. CAV1 influences tumor progression and chemotherapy response, particularly through its interaction with the tumor microenvironment (TME) and cancer metabolism.

The prevention of thromboembolisms through anticoagulation and heart rate control is crucial in managing non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). This study aimed to analyze the consequences of poor anticoagulation control with vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) in Spanish patients with NVAF, focusing on thrombotic events, bleeding, mortality, healthcare resources (HRU), and costs. This observational, retrospective study used electronic medical records (BIG-PAC database) of NVAF patients who started VKA treatment between 1 January 2016 and 31 December 2018.

Background: Regional gray matter volume (GMV) differences between individuals with mental disorders and comparison participants may be confounded by co-occurring disorders. To disentangle disorder-specific GMV correlates, we conducted a large-scale multidisorder meta-analysis using a novel approach that explicitly models co-occurring disorders.
Methods: We systematically reviewed voxel-based morphometry studies indexed in PubMed and Scopus up to January 2023 that compared adults with major mental disorders (anorexia nervosa, schizophrenia spectrum, anxiety, bipolar, major depressive, obsessive-compulsive, and posttraumatic stress disorders plus attention-deficit/hyperactivity, autism spectrum, and borderline personality disorders) with comparison participants.

Background: Understanding genetic-metabolite associations has translational implications for informing cardiovascular risk assessment. Interrogating functional genetic variants enhances our understanding of disease pathogenesis and the development and optimization of targeted interventions.
Methods: In this study, a total of 187 plasma metabolite levels were profiled in 4974 individuals of European ancestry of the GCAT| Genomes for Life cohort.

Background: 10% of postmenopausal breast cancer cases are attributed to a high body mass index (BMI). BMI underestimates body fat, particularly in older women, and therefore the cancer burden attributable to obesity may be even higher. However, this is not clear.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic is a great burden worldwide, but its impact on patients with genitourinary cancer (GUC) is poorly characterized. This study aimed to characterize the clinical features and evolution of GUC patients affected by COVID-19 in Spain.
Patients And Methods: SOGUG-COVID-19 was an observational ambispective non-interventional study that recruited patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection who had been treated for GUC in 32 Spanish hospitals.

(1) Introduction: The global rise of gastrointestinal diseases, including colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel diseases, highlights the need to understand their causes. Diet is a common risk factor and a crucial regulator of gene expression, with alterations observed in both conditions. This study aims to elucidate the specific biological mechanisms through which diet influences the risk of bowel diseases.

Stigma and discrimination against the trans* community have been shown to exacerbate mental health issues among its members. In Catalonia, the Gender Identity Unit at the Clinic's Hospital traditionally adhered to a biomedical model (BMM) of health for trans* individuals. However, a few years ago, the Transit Service introduced a biopsychosocial model (BPSM).

Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) inhibitors have revolutionized the treatment of many cancers with DNA-repairing deficiencies via synthetic lethality. Advocated by the polypharmacology concept, recent evidence discovered that a significantly synergistic effect in increasing the death of cancer cells was observed by simultaneously perturbating the enzymatic activities of bromodomain-containing protein 4 (BRD4) and PARP1. Here, we developed a novel cheminformatics approach combined with a structure-based method aiming to facilitate the design of dual PARP1-BRD4 inhibitors.

Unlabelled: NAFLD has emerged as a significant public health concern, with its prevalence increasing globally. Emphasizing the complex relationship between dietary patterns and epigenetic modifications such as DNA methylation or miRNA expression can exert a positive impact on preventing and managing metabolic disorders, including NAFLD, within the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. This review aims to evaluate the influence of dietary patterns on hepatic epigenetic gene modulation and provide dietary recommendations for the prevention and management of NAFLD in the general population.
