Survival evaluation of treatment modality in squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity and oropharynx.

The treatment of squamous cell carcinoma of the mouth and oropharynx continues to change. In this primary report, we compared the results obtained by combined surgery and radiation therapy, or either modality alone. Other methods such as brachytherapy, or hyperfractionated radiotherapy, were not included in our protocols.

[Role of electrohydraulic extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (Dornier HM 4) in the treatment of caliceal diverticulum lithiasis].

Unlabelled: Caliceal diverticula may be congenital or acquired malformations of the collecting system, normally asymptomatic and discovered during an IVP. Indications for treatment included chronic vague flank pain, acute renal colic, urinary tract infection and hematuria. We present the results of 29 patients with symptomatic calculi in caliceal diverticula who were managed by ESWL monotherapy.

[Purely bulbar hematomas].

Introduction: Purely bulbar hematomas are not common (0.25%-0.50% of all intraparenchymatous hematomas), probably because of the particular characteristics of the anatomy and hemodynamics of the bulbar circulation.

Total perturbation correction factor for PTW and NACP plane parallel chambers in electron beams.

The international protocols of electron dosimetry published by the Nordic Association of Clinical Physics and the Sociedad Española de Física Médica recommend the use of a total perturbation correction factor pu, pp which is constant for all plane parallel chambers. In this work we have compared the dose measured with the PTW-Markus and NACP plane parallel chambers in respect to a cylindrical one. The obtained results indicate that for the ionization chamber NACP the value of pu, pp = 1.

Thyroid stimulating antibodies in patients with Graves' ophthalmopathy.

The possible pathogenetic role of thyroid stimulating antibodies (TSAb) was studied in 24 patients. The TSAb were measured by their ability to stimulate concentration of cAMP in human thyroid slices incubated in vitro with the immunoglobulins of these patients. The patients were divided in two groups: Group I, 16 patients with eye disease and hyperthyroidism and Group II, eight patients with eye disease but without hyperthyroidism.
