: Implementing self-sampling (SS) in cervical cancer screening requires comparable results to clinician-collected samples (CCS). Agreement measures are essential for evaluating HPV test performance. Previous studies on non-paired samples have reported higher viral cycle threshold (Ct) values in SS compared to CCS, affecting sensitivity for detecting cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 or worse (CIN2+).

Sandblasting and acid etching are common procedures used to treat implant surfaces, enhancing osseointegration and improving clinical success rates. This clinical study aimed to evaluate the long-term outcomes of sandblasted and acid-etched implants. A total of 303 implants were placed in 114 partially and totally edentulous patients using a two-stage surgical technique and an early loading protocol (6-8 weeks).

This study describes the results of first metatarsal (M1) distal osteotomy with an intramedullary locking plate in persistent/recurrent painful hallux valgus (HV) deformity (without advanced degenerative changes) after primary surgery. Outcomes included postoperative incidences of HV angle (HVA)<16°, intermetatarsal angle (IMA)<9°, proximal articular set angle (PASA)<10°, and the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) score. Data normality was assessed with the Shapiro-Wilk test, and preoperative vs.

Introduction And Objective: The global shortage of nurses who want to work in the intensive care unit (ICU) is alarming, putting at risk quality of care and patient safety. With efforts put into engagement strategies, optimized recruitment programmes are scarce, specifically in the ICU setting. The aim of this study is to describe and explore ICU nurses' opinions on their work motivational factors that influenced the decision to work in the ICU setting.

Purpose: Focusing the premature birth and its potential complications, this study analyzes Foveal Avascular Zone (FAZ) measured by Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) and its correlation with the severity of prematurity and neonatal growth.
Methods: A cross-sectional comparative study was performed, involving 71 children school-age with history of prematurity and a full-term children control group. Several variables from the neonatal period were collected, such as Gestational Age (GA), Birth Weight (BW), initial Weight Gain (WG) and Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP).

Purpose: Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) is an aggressive soft tissue sarcoma that develops sporadically or in Neurofibromatosis type 1 patients. Its development is marked by the inactivation of specific tumor suppressor genes (TSGs): NF1, CDKN2A and SUZ12EED (Polycomb Repressor Complex 2). Each TSG loss can be targeted by particular drug inhibitors and we aimed to systematically combine these inhibitors, guided by TSG inactivation status, to test their precision medicine potential for MPNSTs.

Background: Several scores have been developed to stratify the risk of graft loss in controlled donation after circulatory death (cDCD). However, their performance is unsatisfactory in the Spanish population, where most cDCD livers are recovered using normothermic regional perfusion (NRP). Consequently, we explored the role of different machine learning-based classifiers as predictive models for graft survival.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming rheumatology research, with a myriad of studies aiming to improve diagnosis, prognosis and treatment prediction, while also showing potential capability to optimise the research workflow, improve drug discovery and clinical trials. Machine learning, a key element of discriminative AI, has demonstrated the ability of accurately classifying rheumatic diseases and predicting therapeutic outcomes by using diverse data types, including structured databases, imaging and text. In parallel, generative AI, driven by large language models, is becoming a powerful tool for optimising the research workflow by supporting with content generation, literature review automation and clinical decision support.

Studies focusing on the effects of lifestyle strategies on patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) that go beyond body weight and explore body composition are currently scarce and inconclusive. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a 12-month intensive life intervention program (ILI), based on a hypocaloric Mediterranean diet, on changes in the body composition parameters as assessed by abdominal computed tomography (CT) and the cardiorespiratory profile of patients with severe OSA and grade I-II obesity, compared to patients receiving standard care. Resultts:Thirty-four patients (30 males and four females) were randomly assigned to an intervention group (IG) ( = 18) or a control group (CG) (n = 16).

Previous studies showed that, paradoxically, obese patients with heart failure (HF) have better clinical outcomes compared to overweight, normal, or underweight patients. Scientific societies emphasize the importance of integrating quality of life (QoL) assessment in cardiovascular care. However, the association between QoL and weight remains understudied.

Heart transplantation (HT) is the gold standard therapy for advanced heart failure (ADHF), and LVADs as destination therapy are an option in non-HT candidates. Most patients with ADHF never receive HT or an LVAD, so alternative strategies are needed. Intermittent levosimendan can reduce HF hospitalizations in ADHF patients in the short term.

Variant 3'UTRs provide mRNAs with different binding sites for miRNAs or RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) allowing the establishment of new regulatory environments. Regulation of 3'UTR length impacts on the control of gene expression by regulating accessibility of miRNAs or RBPs to homologous sequences in mRNAs. Studying the dynamics of mRNA length variations in atherosclerosis (ATS) progression and reversion in ApoE-deficient mice exposed to a high-fat diet and treated with an αCD40-specific siRNA or with a sequence-scrambled siRNA as control.

: Biallelic pathogenic variants in the gene are typically associated with severe, early-onset inherited retinal dystrophies (IRDs) in both syndromic and non-syndromic forms. This study explores the phenotypic variability of non-syndromic IRDs associated with variants, focusing on two siblings with biallelic variants, one of whom exhibits a remarkably mild phenotype, thereby expanding the clinical spectrum. : Whole-exome sequencing (WES) and mRNA analysis were performed to identify and characterize variants in the siblings.

Bilingual language control is a dynamic cognitive system that enables individuals to effectively manage language use and prevent interference when switching between languages. Research indicates that certain neurodegenerative conditions may influence language-switching abilities or hinder the suppression of cross-language interference. However, it remains uncertain whether neurodegeneration primarily affecting mesial temporal structures, such as Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), impacts lexical retrieval in dual-language naming conditions.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) displays a high degree of spatial subtype heterogeneity and co-existence, linked to a diverse microenvironment and worse clinical outcome. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, by combining preclinical models, multi-center clinical, transcriptomic, proteomic, and patient bioimaging data, we identify an interplay between neoplastic intrinsic AP1 transcription factor dichotomy and extrinsic macrophages driving subtype co-existence and an immunosuppressive microenvironment.

Oncolytic viruses (OVs) are a promising therapeutic approach for cancer, although their systemic administration faces significant challenges. Mesenchymal stem cells have emerged as potential carriers to overcome these obstacles due to their tumor-tropic properties. This study investigates the use of menstrual blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MenSCs) as carriers for OVs in cancer therapy, focusing on enhancing their efficacy through different culture conditions.

Ewing sarcoma (EWS) is the second most common bone tumor affecting children and young adults, with dismal outcomes for patients with metastasis at diagnosis. Mechanisms leading to metastasis remain poorly understood. To deepen our knowledge on EWS progression, we have profiled tumors and metastases from a spontaneous metastasis mouse model using a multi-omics approach.
