The aim of this study was to re-evaluate fluoroquinolone (FQ) use in treatment by analyzing the consumption of FQ and the resistance levels of selected Gram‑negative bacilli, as well as Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex in EU/EEA countries and in Poland between 2016 and 2021. Data from ECDC surveillance systems EARS-Net, Euro-GASP, and the European Tuberculosis Surveillance Network were included in the description of pathogen resistance. And the ESAC-Net project for determining FQ consumption.

Rationale: World healthcare frequently faced severe viral pneumonia cases in the last decades, due to pandemic situations such as H1N1, MERS-CoV, and SARS-COVID-19.
Patient Concerns: The impact of viral infection on lung structure, lung function, and overall mortality was significant. The quality of life and assumed life expectancy was decreased with the supposed development of lung fibrosis in involved survived patients.

BACKGROUND Treatment of displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures is controversial. Choosing the optimal surgical technique is very important for patient quality of life and activity. In this study, we asked the question: "What is the long-term quality of life of patients after intra-articular calcaneal fractures treated by minimally invasive reduction and percutaneous stabilization (MIRPS)?".

Ovarian carcinogenesis can be induced by a large number of somatic gene mutations. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) released into peripheral blood can provide insights into the genomic landscape of cancer cells and monitor their dynamics. Our aim was to detect and compare the genetic profiles in tumor tissue and plasma before and after tumor resection in ovarian cancer patients.

It contains based on current recommendations discussion of main indications for CEE and analysis of its possibilities in evaluation of perfusion of the left ventricular myocardium, detection of myocardial ischemia, and assessment of myocardial viability. Data on CEE safety and possible side effects associated with the use of ultrasound contrasts are also presented.

Background: A correlation between the level of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) - the inhibitor of the nitric oxide (NO) synthesis - and the liver function and survival after a liver transplantation has been reported.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of sitagliptin -the inhibitor of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) - on the NO-ADMA-dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase (DDAH) pathway in rat livers subjected to ischemia/reperfusion (IR).
Material And Methods: The rats received sitagliptin (5 mg/kg, per os - p.
Optimal duration of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) after stent implantation is uncertain. Some patients have an extended risk of thrombotic complications including that of very late stent thrombosis after cessation of recommended course of DAPT (6-12 months). On the other hand, there is a real risk of bleeding on DAPT.

Introduction: Many studies have shown that people born in the spring are at a higher risk of developing multiple sclerosis (MS). This may be associated with lower levels of sun exposure, and consequently, lower levels of vitamin D3 during pregnancy. However, these relationships have not been verified thus far in any countries in Central Europe.

Determination of the causative agent of erythema-like skin lesions in case of nonspecific superficial perivascular dermatitis was supported by histological examination and led to the latter diagnosis of Hyperkeratosis lenticularis perstans (Flegel disease) in patient. The presence of antibodies against Borrelia burgdorferi in patient serum was confirmed by a routine ELISA method and verified by Western blot technique. Skin biopsy and blood specimens were analyzed by PCR and multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA).

We performed the genetic analysis of Rasopathy syndromes in patients from Central European by direct sequencing followed by next generation sequencing of genes associated with Rasopathies. All 51 patients harboured the typical features of Rasopathy syndromes. Thirty-five mutations were identified in the examined patients (22 in PTPN11, two in SOS1, one in RIT1, one in SHOC2, two in HRAS, three in BRAF, two in MAP2K1 and two in the NF1 gene).

Purpose: Epidermal growth factor receptor-targeted monoclonal antibodies are active as monotherapy beyond second-line treatment. Skin toxicities (STs) are common during treatment, and a positive association between ST severity and patient outcome has been reported. This study collected information on panitumumab monotherapy use in patients with KRAS exon 2 wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer in clinical practice.

Introduction/background: Development of neutralizing inhibitors against factor VIII (FVIII) is a major complication of haemophilia A treatment.
Aim: The ongoing, international, open-label, uncontrolled, observational immune tolerance induction (ObsITI) study evaluates ITI, the standard of care in patients with inhibitors.
Patients/methods: Forty-eight prospective patients in this interim analysis received a single plasma-derived, von Willebrand factor-stabilized, FVIII concentrate (pdFVIII/VWF) for ITI.

Background: Liver function is affected during ischemia/reperfusion (IR). We evaluated the effect of the aging process on selected parameters determining the NO level in rat liver subjected to IR.
Methods: The animals were divided into the C-2 and the IR-2 group of young rats (2-4 months old) and the C-12 and the IR-12 group of older rats (12-14 months old).
Aims: To assess the efficacy and safety of pregabalin alone or in combination with tolterodine extended release (ER) in subjects with idiopathic OAB.
Methods: This 26-week, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, three-period crossover study enrolled women aged ≥ 18 years that were diagnosed with OAB and reported ≥ 8 micturitions/24 hr and ≥ 4 urgency episodes/week on 5-day bladder diary at baseline. Subjects were randomized to 1 of 10 treatment sequences and received three of five treatments, each for 4 weeks with 4-week washout periods: standard-dose pregabalin/tolterodine ER (150 mg twice daily [BID]/4 mg once daily [QD], n=102), pregabalin alone (150 mg BID, n=105), tolterodine ER alone (4 mg QD, n=104), low-dose pregabalin/tolterodine ER (75 mg BID/2 mg QD, n=105), and placebo (n=103).

The discovery of the resistance to activated protein C (APCR) has provoked a new insight into the etiopathogenesis of venous and arterial thrombosis. APCR is determined in 95% genetically by point mutation in the gene for factor V resulting in substitution of arginine in the position 506 by glutamine. This change makes the activated form of factor V (factor Va) resistant to the cleavage by protein C in the place, where the cleavage takes place most quickly under normal conditions.

Depending on the method of surgical treatment patients were divided into 5 groups (those after gastric resection with Rydygier's method, after resection with the Billroth II method, after trunk vagotomy with pyloroplasty, after highly selective vagotomy, and after gastro-enterostomy). In all patients a qualitative estimation of the nitrate-reducing bacteria was carried out, as well as a chromatographic test of the selected N-nitrosamine concentration in the gastric juice.
