Bottom-Up Assembling Hierarchical Enamel-Like Bulk Materials with Excellent Optical and Mechanical Properties for Tooth Restoration.

Adv Healthc Mater

October 2024

Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases Research of Anhui Province, College & Hospital of Stomatology, Anhui Medical University, 81 Meishan Road, Hefei, 230032, China.

Enamel has good optical and mechanical properties because of its multiscale hierarchical structure. Biomimetic construction of enamel-like 3D bulk materials at nano-, micro-, mesh- and macro-levels is a challenge. A novel facile, cost-effective, and easy large-scale bottom-up assembly strategy to align 1D hydroxyapatite (HA) nanowires bundles to 3D hierarchical enamel structure with the nanowires bundles layer-by-layer interweaving orientation, is reported.

This article draws on arts-based psycho-social research to explore embodied and visceral knowing and feeling in the context of people living with a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder (BPD). It presents a discussion of creative artworks solicited through a nation-wide online survey conducted in Australia in 2021 that generated intimate and affective understanding about living with a diagnosis of BPD. To investigate what lived experiences of distress associated with a BPD diagnosis communicate through sensation, emotion, image and affective capacity, the authors put to work Blackman's (2015) concept of "productive possibilities of negative states of being" and the broader theoretical framework of new materialism.

Eur J Pharm Sci

July 2024

Pharmaceutical Sciences Group, Biosciences Division, SRI International, 333 Ravenswood Avenue, Menlo Park, CA, USA. Electronic address:

The overarching premise of this investigation is that injectable, long-acting antimalarial medication would encourage adherence to a dosage regimen for populations at risk of contracting the disease. To advance support for this goal, we have developed oil-based formulations of ELQ-331 (a prodrug of ELQ-300) that perform as long-acting, injectable chemoprophylactics with drug loading as high as 160 mg/ml of ELQ-331. In a pharmacokinetic study performed with rats, a single intramuscular injection of 12.

Auditory cues are integrated with vision and body-based self-motion cues for motion perception, balance, and gait, though limited research has evaluated their effectiveness for navigation. Here, we tested whether an auditory cue co-localized with a visual target could improve spatial updating in a virtual reality homing task. Participants navigated a triangular homing task with and without an easily localizable spatial audio signal co-located with the home location.

Surg Clin North Am

June 2024

Department of Surgery, Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center, 950 15th Street, Augusta, GA 30901, USA.

The management of oligometastatic colorectal cancer differs from the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer, and it is essential that those who treat oligometastatic disease be familiar with the treatment options for these patients. Although definitive treatment is often surgical, there are situations where local therapies such as SBRT or ablative techniques may better serve the patient. Adjuvant therapy should be provided to all patients, and neoadjuvant chemotherapy should be considered as well.

The anatomically complex craniofacial skeleton demands special consideration when caring for cases of polytrauma or medically compromised patients with craniofacial fractures. This paper utilises a systematic review and multidisciplinary opinions to create an algorithm for the hospital-based care of patients with craniofacial fractures (base of skull, orbit, paranasal sinus, and mandible) who require non-invasive ventilation (NIV). Each fracture location has a unique predisposition to a different type of emphysema and associated morbidity.
