Background: The impact of atrial fibrillation (AF) among patients with amyloidosis on in-hospital outcomes is not well-established. We aimed to examine in-hospital outcomes among patients admitted with a primary diagnosis of AF with and without amyloidosis.

Methods And Results: We queried the Nationwide Readmissions Database to compare the in-hospital outcomes among AF patients with and without amyloidosis.

Article Synopsis
  • This study explored how noninvasive programmed ventricular stimulation (NIPS) can predict future arrhythmic events in patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD) for primary prevention, focusing on those with ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM).
  • Among 41 patients, 20% had sustained ventricular tachycardia (VT) or ventricular fibrillation (VF) induced during NIPS at baseline, but the overall occurrence of VT/VF during a 5-year follow-up showed no significant difference based on NIPS results.
  • However, the mortality rate was significantly higher in patients where VT/VF was induced during NIPS, indicating a correlation between NIPS

Background: Real-world clinical data on the adverse events related to the use of cryoballoon catheter for pulmonary vein isolation remains limited.

Objective: To report and describe the adverse events related to the use of Artic Front cryoballoon catheters (Arctic Front, Arctic Front Advance, and Arctic Front Advance Pro) reported in the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Manufacturers and User Defined Experience (MAUDE) database.

Methods: We reviewed all the adverse events reported to the FDA MAUDE database over a 10.

Article Synopsis
  • Obesity significantly impacted hospital outcomes for patients undergoing catheter ablation for ventricular tachycardia (VT), leading to longer hospital stays and higher costs of care.
  • Patients with obesity had increased rates of complications like pericardial effusion and vascular issues, although the differences were not dramatic.
  • Despite these challenges, the study concluded that VT ablation can be safely performed on obese patients without significant increases in early mortality or readmission rates.

We present a 67-year-old woman who developed progressive pancytopenia over 10 months, concomitant with administration of severe adult respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), pneumococcal and influenza vaccines. She developed mild leukopenia ∼2 weeks after the SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine sequence, with progressive symptoms after subsequent vaccines, eventually developing severe aplastic anaemia (SAA). While there have been several reports of vaccine-related SAA, at time of submission, our case is the first reported to develop after the Moderna mRNA SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, as well as the first to document the gradual development of SAA over the course of many vaccine exposures.

Combined heart-liver transplantation (CHLT) is indicated for patients with concomitant end-stage heart and liver disease or patients with amyloid heart disease where liver transplantation mitigates progression. Limited data suggest that the liver allograft provides immunoprotection for heart and kidney allografts in combined transplantation from the same donor. We hypothesized that CHLT reduces the incidence of acute cellular rejection (ACR) and the development of de novo donor-specific antibodies (DSAs) compared with heart-alone transplantation (HA).

Objectives: To evaluate feedback-dependent vocal control in cochlear implant patients using pitch-shifted auditory feedback.

Methods: Twenty-three CI recipients with at least 6 months of implant experience were enrolled. Vocal recordings were performed while subjects repeated the vowel /e/ and vocal signals were altered in real-time using a digital effects processor to introduce a pitch-shift, presented back to subjects using headphones.

Background And Aim: There is no standardized guideline to screen, image, or refer patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) to a specialist. In this study, we used transient elastography (TE) to examine the fibrosis stages at which patients are first diagnosed with NAFLD. Subsequently, we analyzed metabolic markers to establish cut-offs beyond which noninvasive imaging should be considered to confirm NAFLD/non-alcoholic steatohepatitis fibrosis in patients.

We present a patient with giant bilateral perinephric masses favored to represent liposarcoma preoperatively. Bilateral renal involvement posed a clinical challenge; careful histologic assessment and surgical planning allowed preservation of renal function.
