Background: The use of digital tools such as electronic patient portals in different health care disciplines and settings has been increasing, but the rate of implementation in clinical practice still lags behind expectations. While studies have linked the use of electronic patient portals to positive health outcomes for patients, studies addressing the viewpoints of healthcare providers are rare.

Methods: We performed an online survey of attitudes of healthcare providers towards an electronic patient portal for mental health hospitals.

Background/aim: Staging for breast cancer in advanced stages or prior to neoadjuvant chemotherapy is recommended to be performed with CT scan of the chest and abdomen and a bone scan. This recommendation is valid since 2012, when conventional staging with chest x-ray and ultrasound of the abdomen was replaced by the more sensitive CT scan. However, it remains unclear if this approach improves patient outcome and prognosis.

Background: Pelvic organ prolapse is a bothersome condition affecting many women at advanced age, but also frequently observed in young women with certain risk factors. Various surgical techniques have been developed with the aim of providing effective surgical treatment for apical prolapse. The vaginal bilateral sacrospinous colposuspension surgery (BSC) with ultralight mesh and utilization of the i- stich is a relatively new minimal invasive technique with very promising outcomes.

Introduction: The risk for metastasis at primary diagnosis of breast cancer is about 4%. The German guidelines give clear indications on when, who, and how to stage breast cancer patients. Ideally, this should be done via computerized axial tomography (CAT) scan of the thorax and abdomen and an additional bone scan.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine whether mRNA expressions and dynamic changes of immune-related genes before and after starting first-line treatment with the PD-1 inhibitor pembrolizumab in patients with NSCLC were of predictive value.

Methods: CD3, CD8, PD-1, PD-L1 and CTLA-4 mRNA expression levels were measured from peripheral blood before and after three weeks of treatment with the PD-1 inhibitor. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed retrospectively.

As a result of migration, an increasing number of patients in forensic psychiatric hospitals show poor skills in the national language, which can affect their treatment. Improving the second language (L2) of inpatients with schizophrenia may help to enable effective psychotherapy and thus reduce the risk of criminal recidivism and facilitate reintegration into society, for example because of a language-related higher degree of social functioning. For this purpose, a Hessian forensic psychiatric hospital established a ward specialized in L2 acquisition.

Purpose: In this prospective study, endometrial biopsy by pipette was compared with hysteroscopy with curettage in patients with an abnormal uterine bleeding (ABU) (hypermenorrhea, intermediate bleeding, continuous bleeding, postmenopausal bleeding) and patients with a sonographically abnormal endometrium.

Methods: 176 patients were included. The pipette samples were taken during the usual planned procedure under general anaesthesia.

Purpose: Various pathologies of the lumbosacral junction require fusion of the L5/S1 segment. However, pseudarthroses, which often come along with sacral screw loosening, are problematic. The aim of the present investigation was to elaborate the morphological features of the L5/S1 segment to define a so-called "safe zone" for bi- or tricortical screw placement without risking a damage of the iliac vessels.

Unlabelled: The aim of this study was to contribute further to existing randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses showing advantages in the outcome of less invasive surfactant administration (LISA)-treated infants and add new aspects concerning treatment and outcome data collected in the routine clinical setting. Four hundred seven very low birth weight infants who received surfactant via either LISA or intubation methods were enrolled in the observational cross-sectional multicenter study. To compare infants in terms of surfactant administration, we used an exact matching procedure (the same gestational age, severe perinatal depression (pH < 7.

Long term monitoring of locomotor behaviour in humans using body-worn sensors can provide insight into the dynamical structure of locomotion, which can be used for quantitative, predictive and classification analyses in a biomedical context. A frequently used approach to study daily life locomotor behaviour in different population groups involves categorisation of locomotion into various states as a basis for subsequent analyses of differences in locomotor behaviour. In this work, we use such a categorisation to develop two feature sets, namely state probability and transition rates between states, and use supervised classification techniques to demonstrate differences in locomotor behaviour.

Cancer patients frequently suffer from gastrointestinal complications. In this manuscript, we update our 2013 guideline on the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal complications in adult cancer patients by the Infectious Diseases Working Party (AGIHO) of the German Society of Hematology and Medical Oncology (DGHO). An expert group was put together by the AGIHO to update the existing guideline.

Background And Objectives: Psoas blocks are an alternative to femoral nerve blocks and have the potential advantage of blocking the entire lumbar plexus. However, the psoas muscle is located deeply, making psoas blocks more difficult than femoral blocks. In contrast, while femoral blocks are generally easy to perform, the inguinal region is prone to infection.

Objectives: Insufficient linezolid levels, which are associated with a poorer outcome, are often observed in ICU patients who receive standard dosing. Although strategies to overcome these insufficient levels have been discussed, appropriate alternative dosing regimens remain to be identified.

Methods: Various infusion regimens (1200-3600 mg/day; q6h, q8h, q12h and continuous) were simulated in 67 000 ICU patients.

Observational and interventional studies indicate a direct link between the patients' physical activity and the extent of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). At present, there are no evidence-based recommendations for physical exercise in the acute dementia care settings. Hence, this systematic review investigates the effects of short-term exercise trials on BPSD.

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are adult progenitor cells with a high migratory and differentiation potential, which influence a broad range of biological functions in almost every tissue of the body. Among other mechanisms, MSCs do so by the secretion of molecular cues, differentiation toward more specialized cell types, or influence on the immune system. Expanding tumors also depend on the contribution of MSCs to building a supporting stroma, but the effects of MSCs appear to go beyond the mere supply of connective tissues.
