Acetaminophen (APAP) stands as one of the most prevalent triggers of drug-induced acute liver injury (ALI). The intricate modulation of immune system activation and inflammatory cascades by hepatic immune cells is paramount in managing liver injury and subsequent restoration. In this study, we employed an integrative approach that fused our proprietary flow cytometry analyses across various time points post-APAP injury with publicly available single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) datasets, encompassing time-series data from liver tissue of mice subjected to APAP intoxication.

Backgroud: Coronary slow flow (CSF) is a common phenomenon of coronary microcirculation dysfunction, and is closely related to elevated blood glucose and fibrinogen (FIB) levels. However, whether immediate blood glucose and FIB levels affect coronary blood flow during primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains unclear.

Objective: To explore the correlation between admission blood glucose (ABG), fibrinogen (FIB) and slow blood flow during primary PCI for acute ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Background: Overweight is thought to affect the outcome of minimally invasive surgery. There is still a lack of controlled studies of laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy (LPD) versus open pancreaticoduodenectomy (OPD) in overweight patients. This study was designed to compare short-term and long-term outcomes in overweight patients treated with LPD and OPD.

Bone defects and congenital bone deficiencies are common clinical conditions. However, conventional non-degradable artificial materials often lead to serious complications, such as severe infections and material displacement. The emergence of tissue engineering and the organoid concept presents a promising approach for the repair of bone defects, facilitating physiological reconstruction while minimizing complications.

Article Synopsis
  • Astrocytes react to brain injuries and can lead to neuron death, but how this happens isn't fully understood; this study investigates the role of a specific microRNA (miRNA-382-5p) found in extracellular vesicles (EVs) as a potential biomarker for traumatic brain injury (TBI).
  • The level of EV-miRNA-382-5p rises significantly in TBI patients and model mice, and it disrupts communication between astrocytes and neurons, causing mitochondrial problems by inhibiting a protein called optic atrophy-1 (OPA1).
  • Targeting miRNA-382-5p with engineered EVs that deliver an inhibitor can reduce mitochondrial damage and improve neural function, indicating that this micro

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the effects of being overweight on surgical outcomes for patients undergoing laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy (LPD), addressing current controversies regarding safety and feasibility.
  • A total of 432 patients were analyzed, but after an adjustment for bias, results showed that while overweight patients had a higher risk of certain complications like postoperative pancreatic fistula and delayed gastric emptying, overall mortality rates were similar between overweight and normal weight groups.
  • The findings suggest that LPD is both safe and feasible for overweight patients, with comparable long-term survival outcomes, but the authors call for more high-quality studies to further validate these results.

Background: The early detection and intervention of liver fibrosis (LF) in patients with chronic liver disease is critical to their management. The accuracy of serum Mac-2 binding protein glycosylation isomer (M2BPGi) in the diagnosis of LF remains controversial. This study aimed to comprehensively assess the value of serum M2BPGi in diagnosing LF.

Qingshen granules inhibits dendritic cell glycolipid metabolism to alleviate renal fibrosis via PI3K-AKT-mTOR pathway.

Phytomedicine

December 2024

School of Pharmacy, the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University, Anhui Medical University, Hefei, China; The Grade 3 Pharmaceutical Chemistry Laboratory of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Hefei, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Qingshen granule (QSG) has anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory properties that can help alleviate renal damage caused by renal fibrosis (RF), particularly by affecting dendritic cells (DCs).
  • The study used adenine-induced RF animal models to assess how QSG influences immune cell differentiation and function, alongside examining its metabolic effects on glucose and lipid processes in DCs and T cells.
  • Results showed that QSG reduced kidney damage, lowered proinflammatory cytokines, altered DC markers, and impacted metabolic gene expression, ultimately promoting DC maturation while inhibiting their migratory ability and antigen presentation to T cells.

Dihydroartemisinin (DHA), an artemisinin derivative, can influence certain malignancies' inflammatory response and growth. This study used Cell Counting Kit-8 and Transwell assays to show that DHA suppressed the growth, migration, and invasion of medullary thyroid cancer cells. Furthermore, the authors used enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence to confirm the expression of the transcriptional coactivators Yes-associated protein (YAP)/transcriptional coactivator with a PDZ-binding domain (TAZ) downstream of the Hippo pathway and changes in the expression of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process markers E-cadherin and N-cadherin.
