Background: Neuroendocrine tumors of the thymus (NETT) are rare and malignant tumors that arise in the anterior mediastinum. These tumors can exhibit aggressive behavior and may involve surrounding critical structures, such as the superior vena cava. This case contributes to the literature by presenting a recurrent thymic carcinoma with invasion of major blood vessels, including the superior vena cava, and the complexities involved in its surgical management.

Diagnosing lung cancer from indeterminate pulmonary nodules (IPLs) remains challenging. In this multi-institutional study involving 2032 participants with IPLs, we integrate the clinical, radiomic with circulating cell-free DNA fragmentomic features in 5-methylcytosine (5mC)-enriched regions to establish a multiomics model (clinic-RadmC) for predicting the malignancy risk of IPLs. The clinic-RadmC yields an area-under-the-curve (AUC) of 0.

Aims: A therapeutic strategy for chronic heart failure (HF) is to lower resting heart rate (HR). Ivabradine is a well-known HR-lowering agent, but limited prospective data exist regarding its use in Chinese patients. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of ivabradine in Chinese patients with chronic HF.

Background: This prospectively randomised, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, multicenter Phase 3 clinical trial was conducted to assess the efficacy and safety profile of nimotuzumab (nimo) plus concurrent chemo-radiotherapy (CCRT) in patients with unresectable locally advanced ESCC.
Methods: Patients were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive CCRT plus nimotuzumab or placebo. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS).

Purpose: No consensus on a grading system for invasive lung adenocarcinoma had been built over a long period of time. Until October 2020, a novel grading system was proposed to quantify the whole landscape of histologic subtypes and proportions of pulmonary adenocarcinomas. This study aims to develop a deep learning grading signature (DLGS) based on positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) to personalize surgical treatments for clinical stage I invasive lung adenocarcinoma and explore the biologic basis under its prediction.

Background: We investigated alterations in the serum metabolomic profile of IgA nephropathy (IgAN) patients and screen biomarkers of IgA nephropathy based on ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS).
Methods: Serum samples from 65 IgAN patients and 31 healthy controls were analyzed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS). Univariate and multivariate analysis were performed to screen the differential metabolites.

Understanding the biological basis of cognitive differences between individuals is the goal in human intelligence research. The surface area of the cortex is considered to be a key determinant of human intelligence. Adolescence is a period of development characterized by physiological, emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial changes, which is related to the recombination and optimization of the cerebral cortex, and cognitive ability changes significantly in children and adolescents.

Background: Selenium is an essential nutrient and trace element required for human health and plays an important role in antioxidative and anti-inflammatory processes. However, the long-term impact of selenium levels on the health of patients with chronic kidney disease remains unclear.
Method: Participants in this study were 3,063 CKD adults from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES 1999-2000, 2003-2004, and 2011-2018).

Background: Red-cell transfusion is critical for surgery during the peri-operative period; however, the transfusion threshold remains controversial mainly owing to the diversity among patients. The patient's medical status should be evaluated before making a transfusion decision. Herein, we developed an individualized transfusion strategy using the West-China-Liu's Score based on the physiology of oxygen delivery/consumption balance and designed an open-label, multicenter, randomized clinical trial to verify whether it reduced red cell requirement as compared with that associated with restrictive and liberal strategies safely and effectively, providing valid evidence for peri-operative transfusion.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) refers to acute diffuse lung injury caused by a variety of intrapulmonary and/or extrapulmonary factors such as infection and trauma. Uncontrolled inflammatory response is the main pathological feature. Different functional states of alveolar macrophages have different effects on inflammatory response.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD)-induced low back pain significantly influences the quality of life, placing a burden on public health systems worldwide. Currently available therapeutic strategies, such as conservative or operative treatment, cannot effectively restore intervertebral disc (IVD) function. Decellularized matrix (DCM) is a tissue-engineered biomaterial fabricated using physical, chemical, and enzymatic technologies to eliminate cells and antigens.

Ni single-atom catalysts (SACs) were synthesized by high-temperature calcination of nickel ions and 1,10-phenanthroline on carbon black as a carrier. Benefiting from the ultrahigh atom utilization efficiency, Ni SACs can significantly accelerate decay of dissolved oxygen to generate abundant reactive oxygen species through an oxygen reduction reaction occurring on cathodes. The generated reactive oxygen species can vastly enhance the electrochemiluminescent (ECL) signal of luminol without participation of exogenous co-reactants.

Introduction: The chronic ischemic injury of the upper/lower limbs caused by thromboangiitis obliterans (TAO, Buerger's disease) is difficult to heal, leading to high morbidity and amputation risk, seriously lowering the quality of life of patients. So far, the pathogenesis of this disease is still not clear, and there are still no effective therapeutic approaches. Here, we first use an improved bone transport technique to treat TAO-related foot ulcers and achieve good therapeutic effects.

Chest compressions are a key component of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The determination of the optimal compression point (OCP) in adult CPR is an indispensable critical factor for high quality chest compressions (CCs). At present, the OCP for adult CPR is still controversial, which still needs further research and discussion.

Background: Evidence of the use of drug-coated balloons (DCB) in large or small coronary lesions and in-stent restenosis has accumulated over the past years. Due to their anatomical peculiarity, the treatment of very small vessels (VSV) (lumen diameter <2 mm) is still a controversial issue. Studies that examine the use of DCB in VSV are limited.

Objective: To investigate the correlation between serum levels of 25-hydroxy vitamin D [25(OH)D] and the visceral fat area of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in the context of different bone mass.
Materials And Methods: A total of 180 patients with T2DM were randomly selected for bone mineral density (BMD) examination. According to the results, they were divided into three groups: T2DM normal bone group (group A); T2DM bone mass reduction group (group B); T2DM osteoporosis group (group C).
