Introduction: Training novice ophthalmology residents on the EyeSi simulator increases cataract surgery safety. However, there is no consensus regarding how much training residents should perform before their first time on patients. We evaluated the French national training program through the analysis of the learning curves of novice residents.

Purpose: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) clinical variability, along with the lack of conclusive diagnostic instruments, result in average diagnosis delays of 9 months. This study aimed to assess whether metabolomic profiling of basal tears in ALS patients could act as a biological marker for diagnosing ALS, predicting prognosis, and discriminating between endophenotypes.
Methods: A single-center prospective case-control study was conducted in France from September 2021 to March 2023 including patients with ALS according to the revised EI Escorial criteria.

Predominantly antibody deficiencies have an estimated prevalence of >1 in 25 000. Their classical phenotype entails the association of autoimmune manifestations with increased susceptibility to infections. Up to 8% of these patients ultimately develop immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP).

While the treatment of locally advanced lower and middle rectal cancer with total mesorectal excision (TME) after neoadjuvant therapy is now well defined, the treatment of locally advanced upper rectal cancer (LAURC) remains controversial. Although most teams and academic societies recommend upfront surgery (US) with partial mesorectal excision (PME), as this appears to be sufficient for these tumors, the literature remains conflicting regarding the additional use of neoadjuvant therapy and TME. Current recommendations for the treatment of LAURC do not reflect actual clinical practice.

Background And Purpose: The human visual system relies on neural networks throughout the brain that are easily accessible for tests exploring eye structures and movements. Over the past two decades, investigations have been carried out on both afferent and efferent components of the visual system in people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This approach might represent an innovative biomarker research strategy to better characterise the phenotypic variability of ALS.

Background: Capmatinib is a selective MET inhibitor with demonstrated efficacy in a phase II study of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients harboring METex14 mutations. However, the real-world outcomes of capmatinib are largely unknown. From June 2019, the French Early Access Program (EAP) provided capmatinib to METex14 NSCLC patients who were ineligible for or for whom first-line standard therapies had failed.

Objective: To analyse the demographic, clinical and laboratory data of Beninese patients with haemophilia.
Method: A prospective survey was conducted in three different hospitals of Benin from April 2021 to March 2022, to analyse clinical and biological features of patients with haemophilia previously diagnosed or identified based on personal/family history.
Results: A total of 101 patients were studied, 97 with haemophilia A and 4 with haemophilia B, including 26 new cases identified after family investigation.

Background: Early ischemic changes on baseline imaging are commonly evaluated for acute stroke decision-making and prognostication.
Aims: We assess the association of early ischemic changes on clinical outcomes and whether it differs between intravenous tenecteplase and Alteplase.
Methods: Data are from the phase 3, Alteplase compared to Tenecteplase (AcT) trial.

Patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing lipase 8 (PNPLA8), one of the calcium-independent phospholipase A2 enzymes, is involved in various physiological processes through the maintenance of membrane phospholipids. Biallelic variants in PNPLA8 have been associated with a range of paediatric neurodegenerative disorders. However, the phenotypic spectrum, genotype-phenotype correlations and the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood.

Background: In kidney transplant recipients with positive serology (R+) for the cytomegalovirus (CMV), 2 strategies are used to prevent infection, whose respective advantages over the other are still debated. This study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness and cost utility of antiviral prophylaxis against CMV versus preemptive therapy, considering CMV infection-free survival over the first year posttransplantation as the main clinical outcome.
Methods: Clinical, laboratory, and economic data were collected from 186 kidney transplant patients CMV (R+) included in the cohort study (85 patients who benefited from CMV prophylaxis and 101 from preemptive therapy).

Hidrocystoma is thought to be a benign retention cyst of sweat ductal units. The lesion is usually located in the periorbital skin; however, lesions with similar histopathological features are rarely observed in extra-facial sites. Herein, we present four cases of hidrocystoma-like tumours in extra-facial skin sites that harboured a RET or ALK rearrangement.
