Background: Prostate cancer is the most common diagnosed tumor and the fifth cancer related death among men in Europe. Although several genetic alterations such as ERG-TMPRSS2 fusion, MYC amplification, PTEN deletion and mutations in p53 and BRCA2 genes play a key role in the pathogenesis of prostate cancer, specific gene alteration signature that could distinguish indolent from aggressive prostate cancer or may aid in patient stratification for prognosis and/or clinical management of patients with prostate cancer is still missing. Therefore, here, by a multi-omics approach we describe a prostate cancer carrying the fusion of TMPRSS2 with ERG gene and deletion of 16q chromosome arm.

Background: Cognitive impairment is prevalent in bipolar disorder (BD), and has negative impacts on functional impairments and quality of life, despite euthymic states in most individuals. The underlying neurobiological basis of cognitive impairment in BD is still unclear.
Methods: To further explore potential connectivity abnormalities and their associations with cognitive impairment, we conducted a degree centrality (DC) analysis and DC (seed)-based functional connectivity (FC) approach in unmedicated, euthymic individuals with BD.

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) promote neovascularization during the acute phase after ocular chemical injury, while the local inflammatory acidic environment delays post-injury repair. Currently, the mechanism of NETs promoting neovascularization has not been fully elucidated, and there is a lack of therapeutic strategies to effectively improve the local microenvironment for corneal repair. In this study, we validated the NETs-M2-angiogenic pathway after injury.

Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most aggressive tumor in the central nervous system. Tumor-associated macrophage (TAMs) represent a major immune cell population in tumor microenvironment (TME) and exert immunosuppressive effects that impede GBM treatment. Morusin is a flavonoid extracted from mulberry trees and has anti-tumor properties against various cancers, including glioma.

Inspired by the fundamental attribute of chirality in nature, chiral-engineered biomaterials now represent a groundbreaking frontier in biomedical fields. However, the integration of chirality within inorganic materials remains a critical challenge and developments of chirality-induced bionic bone implants are still in infancy. In this view, novel chiral hydroxyapatite (CHA) coated Ti alloys are successfully synthesized by a sophisticated chiral molecule-induced self-assembly method for the first time.

Secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) is one of the most common complications of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Vitamin D levels begin to decrease in the early stages of CKD, and these vitamin D-related changes play a central role in the occurrence and development of SHPT. Vitamin D-based drugs, which inhibit parathyroid hormone secretion either directly or indirectly, are commonly used to treat SHPT.

Purpose: Evaluate if low-frequency bladder vibration (LFBV) combined with clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) alleviated urinary tract infections (UTIs) in spinal cord injury (SCI) patients with neurogenic bladder (NB).
Methods: A single-blind randomized controlled trial was conducted. Patients who developed UTIs while rehabilitating from SCI were enrolled continuously between January 2021 and March 2023 and randomly assigned to the control or the intervention group.

This study aimed to determine whether lobectomy is appropriate for the long-term prognosis of 1-4-cm-sized differential thyroid cancer (DTC). This retrospective study included 2,178 patients with 1-4-cm DTC treated via thyroid lobectomy (LT) or total or near-total thyroidectomy (TT) and who were followed up for at least 3 years. The primary endpoint was a structural incomplete response, which was confirmed via imaging with or without a positive histological or cytological examination.

After ending the three-year zero COVID policy in China, the epidemiology of other respiratory pathogens has been affected. This study aimed to characterize of common respiratory pathogen infections in pediatric patients hospitalized for acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) in Suzhou before and after ending the zero COVID policy. Nasopharyngeal aspirates (NPAs) were obtained from children with ARTIs (aged ≤ 16 years) at the Children's Hospital of Soochow University for the detection of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), influenza A (FluA), FluB, human parainfluenza virus (HPIV), adenovirus (ADV), human rhinovirus (HRV), bocavirus (BoV), human metapneumovirus (HMPV), and mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP).

This study aimed to investigate whether activation of PPARγ regulates M1/M2 macrophage polarization to attenuate dextran sulfate sodium salt (DSS)-induced inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) via the STAT-1/STAT-6 pathway in vivo and in vitro. We first examined the effect of PPARγ on macrophage polarization in LPS/IFN-γ-treated M1 RAW264.7 cells and IL-4/IL-13-treated M2 RAW264.

In mammalian species, neural tissues cannot regenerate following severe spinal cord injury (SCI), for which stem cell transplantation is a promising treatment. Neural stem cells (NSCs) have the potential to repair SCI; however, in unfavourable microenvironments, transplanted NSCs mainly differentiate into astrocytes rather than neurons. In contrast, bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) promote the differentiation of NSCs into neurons and regulate inflammatory responses.

Background: Prolonged dependence on mechanical ventilation is a common occurrence in clinical ICU patients and presents significant challenges for patient care and resource allocation. Predicting prolonged dependence on mechanical ventilation is crucial for improving patient outcomes, preventing ventilator-associated complications, and guiding targeted clinical interventions. However, specific tools for predicting prolonged mechanical ventilation among ICU patients, particularly those with critical orthopaedic trauma, are currently lacking.

Objective: Sleep disorders are common in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients and can impair the glymphatic system, leading to cognitive decline. This study aimed to investigate whether AD patients with sleep disorders exhibit worse glymphatic function and more severe cognitive impairment compared to those without sleep disorders and to explore the underlying molecular imaging mechanisms.
Methods: This study included 40 AD patients with sleep disorders (ADSD), 39 cognitively matched AD patients without sleep disorders (ADNSD), and 25 healthy middle-aged and elderly controls (NC).

Aims: Carboxylesterase (Ces)1f is implicated in protection against hepatic inflammation, but it is unclear whether the enzyme has an influence in polarization of Kupffer cells (KCs), the innate immune cells mediating hepatic inflammatory injury including acute liver failure (ALF). In the present study, we aim to explore KC polarization induced by Ces1f in mice with lipopolysaccharide/D-galactosamine (LPS/D-GalN)-induced ALF. We adopted a novel delivery system, β-1,3-D-glucan-encapsulated Endoporter-siRNA particles, to specifically target KC Ces1f knockdown via tail vein injection in mice.

Exploring new oncotargets essential for lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) cell growth is important. Here the bioinformatical studies revealed that Gαi3 expression is elevated in LUAD tissues and its overexpression correlates with poor survival of the patients. Moreover, overexpression of Gαi3 mRNA and protein was detected in LUAD tissues of patients as well as in primary/immortalized LUAD cells.
