Acute retinal necrosis syndrome (ARN) is a viral infection characterized by focal retinal necrosis. Viral meningitis complicated by ARN is relatively rare. In the present case study, a 44-year-old male presented with fever, headache and mental disorder.

Pulp regeneration caused by endogenous cells homing has become the new research spot in endodontics. However, the source of functional cells that are involved in and contributed to the reconstituting process has not been identified. In this study, the possible role of systemical BMSC in pulp regeneration and the effect of stromal cell-derived factor-1 (SDF-1) on stem cell recruitment and angiogenesis were evaluated.

Adenomyoepithelioma with carcinoma of the breast: A report of two cases and a review of the literature.

We herein described two cases of adenomyoepithelioma (AME) with carcinoma of the breast. Both of them were Japanese women, and they presented with a mass in their breast. Post-operative specimens revealed encapsulated and well-circumscribed tumors with local invasion, necrosis, cytological atypia, and a high mitotic rate.

Propofol protects against the neurotoxicity of 1‑methyl‑4‑phenylpyridinium.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive and degenerative disorder of the central nervous system, characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons and muscular rigidity. Treatment with propofol (2,6‑diisopropylphenol) has been observed to attenuate oxidative stress injury via inhibition of programmed cell death. Results from the present study indicate that propofol treatment attenuates 1‑methyl‑4‑phenylpyridinium (MPP+)‑induced oxidative stress, which was demonstrated by increased levels of reactive oxygen species, 4‑hydroxy‑2‑nonenal and protein carbonyls.

Tongue acupuncture is a technique that treats illness through acupuncture applied to the tongue. This study was designed to assess its therapeutic effects in the treatment of post-stroke dysphagia. A clinical control study was conducted with randomly selected 180 patients with post-stroke dysphagia.

Correlation of TLR2 and TLR4 expressions in peripheral blood mononuclear cells to Th1- and Th2-type immune responses in children with henoch-schönlein purpura.

We discussed the correlation of TLR2 (Toll-like receptor) and TLR4 expressions in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) to Th1- and Th2-type immune responses in children with Henoch-Schönlein Purpura (HSP). The role of TLR2 and TLR4 in the pathogenesis of HSP was analyzed. Sixty-four HSP children treated at our hospital from October 2011 to November 2012 were enrolled and divided into NHSPN group (complicated by renal impairment, 36 cases) and HSPN group (not complicated by renal impairment, 28 cases).

Misdiagnosis of a Patient with Internal Carotid Artery Fenestration: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Background: Internal carotid artery fenestration is a rare congenital cerebrovascular condition and can be misdiagnosed as carotid artery dissection.

Case Report: A patient was initially misdiagnosed with carotid artery dissection. This initial diagnosis was made using a carotid vascular computed angiography and magnetic resonance angiography.

Genome-wide association study identifies two new susceptibility loci for colorectal cancer at 5q23.3 and 17q12 in Han Chinese.

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have reported a number of loci harboring common variants that influence risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) in European descent. But all the SNPs identified explained a small fraction of total heritability. To identify more genetic factors that modify the risk of CRC, especially Chinese Han specific, we conducted a three-stage GWAS including a screening stage (932 CRC cases and 966 controls) and two independent validations (Stage 2: 1,759 CRC cases and 1,875 controls; Stage 3: 943 CRC cases and 1,838 controls).

Myofibroma of the muscle is extremely rare. This report describes a 46-year-old man with myofibroma of the left supraspinous muscle on 18F-FDG PET/CT and includes MRI and 18F-FDG PET/CT findings. Whole-body 18F-FDG PET/CT showed abnormal tracer uptakes in the left supraspinous muscle, which was subsequently confirmed as myofibroma by histopathology.

Licochalcone C induces apoptosis via B-cell lymphoma 2 family proteins in T24 cells.

The current study investigated the mechanisms by which licochalcone C induces apoptosis of T24 human malignant bladder cancer cells. Cell viability was evaluated using an MTT assay. Apoptosis was investigated using a morphological assay, flow cytometry and a caspase‑3 activity assay.

Association between CD14 gene promoter polymorphisms with serum total-IgE and eosinophil levels in atopic and non-atopic asthma patients in a Chinese Han population.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between CD14 gene promoter SNPs with serum total-IgE and eosinophil levels in atopic asthma and non-atopic asthma in Chinese Han.

Methods: A total of 152 patients with asthma were divided into atopic asthma (n = 100) and non-atopic asthma (n = 52) groups for this study. Six CD14 gene SNPs were analyzed using PCR and gene sequencing.

18F-FDG PET/CT Findings of Metastasis to Spongy Body of Penis From Urothelial Carcinoma of Bladder.

The spongy body of the penis metastasis from other primary sites is a rare clinical entity. It is frequently associated with widespread metastatic disease and poor prognosis clinically. We report a case of a 61-year-old man with a previous history of cystectomy due to infiltrating urothelial carcinoma of the bladder 12 months ago and presented with penile shaft swelling pain and hematuria for 3 months.

Hiwi is well known for its role in stem cell renewal, maintaining the resting stage, and downregulating cell cycle of stem cells via RNA silencing. And Hiwi overexpression has been recognized in several types of cancers. In the present study, we examined the Hiwi expression in colorectal cancer (CRC) specimens in both mRNA and protein levels via real-time quantitative PCR, western blot assay, and immunohistochemical staining.

Objectives: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is the most common systemic autoimmune disease which likely involves complex interactions between genes and the environment. Two large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have implicated many loci as genetic risk factors associated with primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS). Among them there are a number of pSS associated gene polymorphisms including the MHC-II, STAT4, IRF5, BLK, and TNIP1 genes that are shared with SLE.

Mechanical analysis on individualized finite element of temporal-mandibular joint under overlarge jaw opening status.

Background: Analyze the stress status of temporal-mandibular joint (TMJ) of a healthy volunteer under the overlarge jaw opening status through the finite element method, with the purpose of clarifying the loading features of each structure in the joint area, and achieving further understanding of the pathogenesis of the temporomandibular disorders (TMD).

Methods: Collect the CBCT and MRI data of a volunteer respectively under the maximum jaw opening, establish the finite element model (FEM) of TMJ under the maximum jaw opening status through a series of software, image segmentation, rectification, meshing, material evaluation and other related processing, simulate the mechanical environment of this joint area under this status, and analyze the stress status of the articular disc, condyle cartilage, and condyle process.

Results: Based on CT and MRI image data, build 3D model and FEM of TMJ, fully simulate the mechanical environment under the large jaw opening status, and calculate the stress value of the articular disc, condyle process and condylar cartilage.

Thirty-Day Outcome of a Multicenter Registry Study of Stenting for Symptomatic Intracranial Artery Stenosis in China.

Background And Purpose: Although recent trials have suggested that stenting is worse than medical therapy for patients with severe symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis, it is not clear whether this conclusion applies to a subset of patients with hypoperfusion symptoms. To justify for a new trial in China, we performed a multicenter prospective registry study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of endovascular stenting within 30 days for patients with severe symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis.

Methods: Patients with symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis caused by 70% to 99% stenosis combined with poor collaterals were enrolled.

Effect of PDGF-Rb antagonist imatinib on endometrial injury repairing in mouse model.

Objective: To study the effects of PDGF-Rb antagonists imatinib on endometrial injury repairing in the mouse model.

Methods: The cultured MSCs cells from male mice were marked with BrdU in vitro, and then transplanted to the female mice which suffered from radiation injury through tail vein, PDGF-Rb antagonists imatinib was injected through abdominal cavity. Four groups were arranged, which were radiation transplantation group, normal control group, imatinib intervention group and radiation control group.

Localized Airspace Consolidation of Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis Mimicking Malignant Lesions in 18F-FDG PET/CT Imaging: One Case Report.

Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis is a rare lung disease caused by diffuse, abnormal intra-alveolar surfactant accumulation. Here, we report a case of autoimmune pulmonary alveolar proteinosis with heterogeneous accumulation of F-FDG in both lungs shown on the combined F-FDG PET/CT.

Evaluation of cardiac function by pacing at different right ventricular sites in patients with third-degree atrioventricular block using Doppler ultrasound.

Objective: This study utilized Doppler ultrasonography cardiograms in patients with third-degree atrioventricular (III-AV) block to compare right ventricular apex (RVA) pacing and right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) pacing with respect to their effects on synchronization of contraction between the two ventricles, as well as on timing of specific left-ventricular electrical and mechanical events and their impact on left ventricular function.

Methods: Thirty-eight patients with (III-AV) block were implanted with dual-chamber pacemakers, in 20 cases, implantation occurring in the RVOT (RVOT group), while in 18 cases implantation occurred in the RVA (RVA group). Patients underwent Doppler echocardiography and electrocardiography (ECG) one month pre- and one month post-surgery, as well as 12 months post-surgical implantation of the pacemaker.

Preclinical efficacy of Dexmedetomidine on spinal cord injury provoked oxidative renal damage.

Purpose: Oxidative renal injury is the mainstay in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) and it may eventuate to chronic renal failure. In our study, we investigated the potential of α2-adrenoreceptor agonist Dexmedetomidine (Dex) in ameliorating SCI provoked oxidative renal assault.

Methods: Complete SCI was generated by surgical transaction of the cord at the T10-12 level.

Endostar inhibits ascites formation and prolongs survival in mouse models of malignant ascites.

Endostar, a modified recombinant human endostatin, inhibits the growth of a variety of tumors by suppressing neovascularization. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has an important role in malignant ascites formation. In order to determine whether Endostar can suppress the formation of ascites and prolong survival times, mouse models of malignant ascites were established using S180 and H22 tumor cells.

Background: Asthma is a serious chronic inflammatory disease affecting 300 million people worldwide. This aim of this study to investigate the anti-inflammatory and anti-asthmatic effects of Laminaria japonica extract in the ovalbumin (OVA)-induced mouse asthma model.

Methods: A mouse asthma model was established in SPF Kunming mice by OVA-sensitization followed by inhalation of aerosol allergen for two weeks.
