An interventional study of digital therapy on blood glucose and weight management in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes.

Objective: Our study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a 3-months digital therapy (DTx) intervention in the real world for the management of blood glucose in 3,902 Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Lingshui, Hainan.

Methods: Adults with T2D who were capable of using DTx application (app) were enrolled. Fasting blood glucose (FBG), 2-h postprandial blood glucose (2hPBG), and body weight before and after the intervention were collected.

Evaluation of Complement-Dependent Cytotoxicity Assays for Gene-Edited Pig-to-Human Xenotransplantation.

Background: Gene-edited pigs for xenotransplantation usually contain one or more transgenes encoding human complement regulatory proteins (CRPs). Because of species differences, human CRP(s) expressed in gene-edited pigs may have difficulty inhibiting the activation of exogenous rabbit complement added to a complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC) assay. The use of human complement instead of rabbit complement in CDC experiments may more accurately reflect the actual regulatory activity of human CRP(s).

Introduction: Recurrent opportunistic infections are particularly common in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). However, these opportunistic infections have also been reported in HIV-negative patients, especially those with primary immunodeficiency disorder (PID), a condition that involves a large heterogeneous group of disorders arising from defects in immune system development and/or function.

Case: Here, we report a very rare case of recurrent opportunistic infections in a non-HIV-infected patient combined with mutations in complement component C6 and nuclear factor kB subunit 1 ().

Approximately 80% of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients exhibit EGFR overexpression. The overexpression of EGFR has been linked to its potential role in modulating major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC-I) molecules. We discovered that EGFR, operating in a kinase-independent manner, played a role in stabilizing the expression of SLC7A11, which subsequently inhibited MHC-I antigen presentation.

Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common malignant urological tumor, and regrettably, and is insensitive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, resulting in poor patient outcomes. DBF4 plays a critical role in DNA replication and participates in various biological functions, making it an attractive target for cancer treatment. However, its significance in ccRCC has not yet been explored.

Nonacademic predictors of China medical licensing examination.

Background: National Medical Licensing Examination (NMLE) is the entrance exam for medical practice in China, and its general medical knowledge test (GMKT) evaluates abilities of medical students to comprehensively apply medical knowledge to clinical practice. This study aimed to identify nonacademic predictors of GMKT performance, which would benefit medical schools in designing appropriate strategies and techniques to facilitate the transition from medical students to qualified medical practitioners.

Methods: In 1202 medical students, we conducted the deletion-substitution-addition (DSA) and structural equation model (SEM) analyses to identify nonacademic predictors of GMKT performance from 98 candidate variables including early life events, physical conditions, psychological and personality assessments, cognitive abilities, and socioeconomic conditions.

With global temperatures on the rise and an expanding seafood trade, infections by Vibrio vulnificus, particularly in warm coastal areas like Hainan, China, are increasingly prevalent. These bacteria are notorious for causing grave infections with a high fatality rate. This study aims to dissect the clinical features, laboratory findings, treatment modalities, and patient outcomes associated with V vulnificus infections in Hainan Province.

Comparative effective dose of ciprofol and propofol in suppressing cardiovascular responses to tracheal intubation.

Ciprofol, a novel γ-aminobutyric acid receptor agonist, outperforms propofol with minimal cardiovascular effects, higher potency, reduced injection pain, and a broader safety margin. Despite these advantages, ciprofol's clinical research is still emerging. This study compares the median effective dose (ED) and adverse reactions of ciprofol and propofol, in conjunction with sufentanil, for suppressing cardiovascular responses during tracheal intubation.

Anxiety was assessed through body weight, corticosterone levels, neurotransmitter profiles, and behavioral tests.

Introduction: In chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) is linked to cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Levels of PTH are influenced by serum phosphate (P) and calcium (Ca), but little is known about the impact of magnesium (Mg) on PTH. Hence, this study investigated the relationship between PTH and Mg in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients and non-dialysis patients from three hospitals in China.

Objectives: Drug-loaded mucoadhesive silk fibroin (SF) microneedle patch can overcome the limitations of low bioavailability and significant pain associated with traditional treatment methods, such as topical application or injection of triamcinolone for oral submucous fibrosis (OSF). However, these systems release the drug too quickly, failing to meet the clinical requirements. This study aims to construct a mucoadhesive SF microneedle patch pre-assembled with silk fibroin nanospheres (SFN) and explore its ability to sustain the release of triamcinolone in the treatment of OSF.

Generation of a KDM5D knockout human embryonic stem cell line with CRISPR/Cas9 technology.

KDM5D is a gene implicated in spermatogenic failure and sex-related differences in colon cancer progression, though its role in spermatogenesis remains unclear. We successfully generated a KDM5D knockout human embryonic stem cells using CRISPR/Cas9 technology. This knockout cell line provides a valuable model for studying KDM5D's function in spermatogenesis and its influence on sex differences in various diseases.

Herein, the photosensitizer rhodamine derivatives are selected as the light-trapping dye and the electron-rich substituent N-nitrosoaminophen as the nitric oxide (NO)-releasing component to develop a multifunctional (deep) red-light activatable NO photocage/photodynamic prodrug for efficient treatment of wounds and diabetic foot infections. The prodrug, RhB-NO-2 integrates antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT), NO sterilization, and NO-mediated anti-inflammatory properties within a small organic molecule and is capable of releasing NO and generating Reactive oxygen species (ROS) when exposed to (deep) red laser (660 nm).
