January 2025

Department of Spinal Surgery, Orthopedic Medical Center, Zhujiang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, 510280, China. Electronic address:

Polarization of microglia following spinal cord injury (SCI) is a pivotal pathological process of secondary injury. Although differentiation antagonistic nonprotein coding RNA (DANCR) has been implicated in immune and inflammatory responses across various diseases, its role in SCI still unclear. This research aimed to clarify the underlying mechanisms of DANCR in SCI recovery by investigating its expression pattern in microglia.

Department of Infectious Diseases, Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, No. 39 Shi-er-qiao Road, Chengdu 610072, Sichuan Province, PR China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Acute liver failure (ALF) is a severe condition with high mortality rates, prompting this study to explore the effects of Sini Decoction plus Ginseng Soup (SNRS) on liver health and immune response.
  • Using bioinformatics and network pharmacology, the research identified key glycolysis-related genes influencing macrophage polarization and found that SNRS can improve liver injury outcomes and survival rates in an ALF model.
  • The study concluded that SNRS may effectively treat ALF by altering macrophage behavior and glucose metabolism through the mTOR/HIF-1α pathway, revealing its potential as a therapeutic option.

Electronic address:

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. Consistent activation of Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3 (STAT3) in epidermal keratinocyte transactivates various keratinocyte-derived pro-inflammatory cytokines and elicits spontaneous psoriasis-like skin inflammation. In the current study, we first report that topical application of protocatechuic aldehyde (PA), the bioactive compound from Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen), significantly improved psoriasis-like skin symptoms and reduced immune cell infiltration in psoriatic lesions.

This study aims to elucidate the potential genetic commonalities between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and rheumatic diseases through a disease interactome network, according to publicly available large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS). The analysis included linkage disequilibrium score regression analysis, cross trait meta-analysis and colocalisation analysis to identify common genetic overlap. Using modular partitioning, the network-based association between the two disease proteins in the protein-protein interaction set was divided and quantified.

Postpartum depression (PPD) profoundly impacts the mental and physical health of women globally and is an incurable psychological disorder. Traditional pharmacological treatments often have strong side effects and may adversely affect infant health through breastfeeding, underscoring the critical need for natural and gentle treatment strategies. Sugemule-7, a traditional Chinese medicine comprising multiple natural plant ingredients, represents a potentially safer and more effective alternative.

Epithelial‒mesenchymal transition (EMT) in retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells is believed to play a key role in the pathogenesis of proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR). The ability of Hirudo to promote blood flow and dispel blood stasis may be related to its anti-EMT effects. Through the use of a network pharmacology method, the mechanism by which Hirudo treats PVR was investigated in this study, and the findings were confirmed through in vitro cellular tests.

Translational Chinese Medicine Key Laboratory of Sichuan Province, Sichuan Academy of Chinese Medicine Sciences, Sichuan Institute for Translational Chinese Medicine,Chengdu, Sichuan 610041, PR China. Electronic address:

Background: Hepatic fibrosis is a wound healing response that leads to excessive deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) due to sustained liver injury. Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are key players in ECM synthesis, with the TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway being central to their activation. Despite advances in understanding the pathogenesis of hepatic fibrosis, effective anti-fibrotic therapies are still lacking.

Bone marrow hematopoietic injury encompasses a range of pathological conditions that disrupt the normal function of the hematopoietic system, primarily through the impaired production and differentiation of bone marrow hematopoietic cells. Key pathogenic mechanisms include aging, radiation damage, chemical induction, infection and inflammation, and cross-talk with non-hematopoietic diseases. These pathological factors often lead to myelosuppression and myeloid skewing.

Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Platelets play a critical role in blood clotting and the immune response, relying on a balanced relationship between their production and destruction influenced by reactive oxygen species (ROS).
  • Moderate levels of ROS enhance platelet production and function, aiding in processes like collagen binding and thrombus formation, but high levels can lead to platelet apoptosis and increased risk of thrombosis.
  • The review emphasizes the need for further research into specific ROS signaling pathways, which could lead to new therapies for platelet-related disorders by leveraging the beneficial aspects of ROS while managing their harmful effects.
