Background: Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is the most common cause of peripheral vertigo, with frequent recurrence, particularly pronounced among middle-aged and elderly populations, significantly affecting patients' quality of life. This study aimed to identify predictive factors for recurrence in middle-aged and older patients with BPPV and to develop a nomogram prediction model based on these predictors.

Methods: This retrospective study included 582 participants aged ≥45 years who were selected from the electronic medical records system of the First Hospital of Changsha between March 2021 and March 2024.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

December 2024

Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Want Want Hospital, Changsha, Hunan, China.

Sclerostin, a protein synthesized by bone cells, is a product of the gene. Sclerostin is a potent soluble inhibitor of the WNT signaling pathway, and is known to inhibit bone formation by inhibiting osteocyte differentiation and function. Currently, sclerostin has been the subject of numerous animal experiments and clinical investigations.

December 2024

Department of Laboratory Medicine, The Affiliated Changsha Hospital of Xiangya School of Medicine (The First Hospital of Changsha), Central South University, No. 311, Yingpan Road, Changsha, 410005, Hunan, China.

Antibiotic resistance by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is an urgent threat to human health. The biofilm and persister cells formation ability of MRSA and Staphylococcus epidermidis often companied with extremely high antimicrobial resistance. Pinaverium bromide (PVB) is an antispasmodic compound mainly used for irritable bowel syndrome.

Background: Liver injury from drug-drug interactions (DDIs), notably with anti-tuberculosis drugs such as isoniazid, poses a significant safety concern. Electronic medical records contain comprehensive clinical information and have gained increasing attention as a potential resource for DDI detection. However, a substantial portion of adverse drug reaction (ADR) information is hidden in unstructured narrative text, which has yet to be efficiently harnessed, thereby introducing bias into the research.

Background: Radiation-induced brain injury (RBI) is a common complication in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) who have undergone radiotherapy (RT), which is characterized by significant cognitive and psychological impairments. Although radiation-induced regional structural abnormalities have been well-reported, the effects of RT on the whole brain structural covariance networks are mostly unknown. Here, we performed a source-based morphometry (SBM) study to solve this issue.

First-line treatments for KRAS-mutant non-small cell lung cancer: current state and future perspectives.

Cancer Biol Ther

December 2025

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, China.

mutations are common in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and are associated with patient prognosis; however, targeting has faced various difficulties. Currently, immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and chemoimmunotherapy play pivotal roles in the first-line treatment of -mutated NSCLC. Here, we summarize the current evidence on first-line therapies and compare the treatment outcomes and biomarkers for different regimens.

  • A study evaluated a new long-lasting pain relief medication called QP001, compared to a placebo, to determine its effectiveness and safety for patients after abdominal surgery.
  • Conducted across 23 centers, 255 patients were administered either QP001 or placebo, and the results showed QP001 significantly reduced pain intensity for up to 24 hours post-surgery.
  • The trial indicated that QP001 also reduced the need for morphine and increased patient satisfaction, with no significant difference in adverse events compared to placebo.

Background: Modern pharmacological studies have demonstrated that although triptolide (TP) is effective against hepatocellular carcinoma, it has poor water solubility and more toxic side effects. In this study, we used triptolide (TP), a bioactive constituent in Hook F, as a model drug to develop a novel nano-liposome drug delivery system for the treatment of liver tumours.

Methods: We constructed a functionally-modified triptolide liposome (FA+TPP-TP-Lips) using the film-dispersion method and investigated its physicochemical properties, mitochondrial targeting of hepatic tumour cells, in vitro and in vivo anti-hepatic tumour activity and its mechanism.

The present meta-analysis aims to evaluate the impact of myosteatosis on overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with pancreatic cancer (PC). A comprehensive literature search was conducted in the Medline, Web of Science, and Embase databases. The hazard ratio (HR) and corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) for the association between myosteatosis and survival outcomes were pooled using a random-effects model.

Infect Drug Resist

November 2024

Department of Pharmacy, The First Hospital of Changsha (The Affiliated Changsha Hospital of Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University), Changsha, Hunan, People's Republic of China.

Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) declared Human Monkeypox (mpox) as a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) in July 2022. Due to border quarantine and isolation measures implemented from January 2020 to December 2022, Beijing did not report its first locally transmitted case of mpox until May 31, 2023, which represented a delayed occurrence compared to other countries. The aim of this observational analysis is to describe demographical data, symptoms presentation and clinical course till outcome of patients diagnosed with monkeypox (mpox) from June to December 2023 at a tertiary level hospital in Changsha, china.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on the genetic and phenotypic diversity of liver cancer, analyzing CT images to identify different radiological patterns among types like hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC), and colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRLM) using unsupervised clustering.
  • - Researchers established a liver cancer radiomics signature (LCRS) that serves as an independent prognostic factor, indicating that patients in the LCRS-High group generally have worse survival outcomes but benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy.
  • - The study also found that patients in the LCRS-Low group respond better to immune checkpoint inhibitors, and identified specific biological pathways like Notch signaling that are linked

This study aims to explore the influence of vowels and sound intensity on formant, so as to provide reference for the selection of sound samples and vocal methods in acoustic detection. Thirty-eight healthy subjects, 19 male and 19 female, aged 19-24 years old were recruited. The formants of different vowels(/a/, //, /i/ and /u/) and different sound intensities(lowest sound, comfort sound, highest true sound and highest falsetto sound) were analyzed, and pairings were compared between groups with significant differences.

  • The study explores the potential therapeutic effects of interleukin 6 receptor (IL-6R) blockade in autoimmune diseases (ADs) using Mendelian randomization analysis based on large-scale genetic data.
  • Results suggest that IL-6R blockade can increase the risk of asthma and eczema, while decreasing the risk of ankylosing spondylitis, Crohn's disease, type 1 diabetes, and possibly multiple sclerosis.
  • The findings highlight the complexity of using IL-6R blockade in treatment, indicating both protective and harmful effects on different autoimmune conditions.

Rehabilitation Medicine Department, The Affiliated Changsha Hospital of Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University (The First Hospital of Changsha), Changsha, China.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study examines the genetic connections between major depressive disorder (MDD) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), two conditions that often occur together, by analyzing data from large genetic studies.
  • - Researchers found a significant genetic correlation between MDD and OSA, identified shared genetic markers (397 SNPs from 45 loci), and discovered 154 genes with roles in influencing both disorders.
  • - The analysis suggests that having MDD increases the risk of developing OSA, highlighting the potential shared mechanisms and genetic influences behind these two conditions.
